"Pay back the money already!"
"I told you, I don't have any money today!"
"Who would believe that weak excuse, you bastard—!"
"You're really persistent…"
Not far away on the bridge, a man dressed like a shipwright was being chased by three men in suits.
In a flash, the shipwright-looking guy used rope tricks to shake off the three pursuers.
Right as he landed in front of Iceberg, another man approached—this one with a pigeon perched on his shoulder.
These two were employees of the shipyard. The one with the pigeon was none other than the leader of Cipher Pol 9, the "strongest genius in history," Rob Lucci.
Sandy's eyes narrowed slightly. He really wanted to fight Lucci—because even Sandy doubted whether his own combat experience could match this monster's.
But that wasn't the most important matter today.
Should Usopp go through the "harsh reality check" like in the original story?
The current Usopp really wasn't strong enough… and if he wanted to grow into a real sharpshooter, then this trial was necessary.
Sandy quietly pulled two boxes of Belly from his spatial backpack and walked over to Iceberg.
Iceberg was lecturing the rope-user, Barry.
"Barry, you went gambling again, didn't you?" Iceberg said helplessly.
Barry snapped, "Cut it out. I just hit a rough stretch…"
Lucci hammered Barry on the back of the head. "Idiot. Show Iceberg some respect."
(We're not writing about the pigeon—too many words.)
Barry glared. "Lucci, you bastard! I'm sick of you hitting me every day! Active Rope—!"
"Binding Rope!"
A rope shot out from Barry's sleeve, wrapping around Lucci's arm like a living snake.
"Sanction!!"
Barry yanked on the rope, flinging Lucci into the air and slamming him into the ground.
Bang—!
Smoke exploded across the bridge.
Nami gasped, "No way! Aren't they coworkers? Do they have to fight this hard?"
"Is he… gonna be okay?" Usopp whispered.
Iceberg answered calmly, "I'm used to it."
Inside the cloud of dust, Lucci stood on one hand—perfectly fine. His fingers had dug into the stone ground like metal drills.
Usopp shuddered. "He blocked that impact with one hand… and his fingers dug into the ground… What are these shipwrights made of?!"
Sandy chuckled. "Usopp, take this."
"Huh?" Usopp blinked.
Sandy handed him the two boxes. "Repair money."
"Oh—oh!" Usopp accepted quickly.
Sandy knew it seemed cold, but Usopp needed this kind of emotional hit. Growth wasn't painless—this was part of becoming a real sniper. And the team needed this experience too.
Lucci walked back and greeted them. "Excuse me. My name is Rob Lucci."
Sandy stared at him again. For some reason, looking at Lucci's massive physique made Sandy's fists itch. That durability was just begging to be tested.
Lucci noticed Sandy staring but remained stone-faced.
Barry puffed on a cigar and laughed. "Don't mind him. He's a weirdo. Huh? What's wrong?"
Sandy stepped forward. "You're Barry, right? You look like one of my friends… especially with all those cigars stuffed in your clothes."
Before Barry could react, Sandy had already stolen two cigars from his pockets.
He tossed one to Luffy.
"Luffy, this guy's interesting. How about we recruit him as our shipwright?"
"What kind of stupid joke is that, bastard?!" Barry roared. "I'm a world-class shipwright! I don't wanna be a Pirate! And cigars are expensive! Pay for them!"
Sandy rolled his eyes. "Relax. Ask her."
He pointed at Nami.
Barry looked—saw Nami's skirt—and immediately turned beet red.
"You—YOU WOMAN!" he shouted. "What's wrong with you?!"
Nami blinked. "Huh? What did I do?"
"Shameless!!" Barry ranted. "Showing that much leg in a workplace full of men?! What kind of outfit is that?!"
Kalifa stepped in. "Barry, calm down."
"AHHH?!" Barry turned and saw Kalifa also wearing a skirt. "Even you?! How many times do I have to say this—pants! Wear long pants!! You women never learn!!"
Luffy burst out laughing. "This guy's another weirdo! Hey, Barry! Wanna be our shipwright?!"
Barry was about to blow his top when Sandy suddenly pulled out a long-unused pistol.
Everyone froze.
Lucci and Kalifa instantly stepped in front of Iceberg, their expressions tightening.
Nami and Usopp stared at Sandy in disbelief.
Sandy spun the pistol 360 degrees in his hand with flashy precision—
Bang!
Then he blew a heart-shaped puff of smoke into the air, totally absorbed in his own coolness.
Luffy's eyes sparkled. "Sandy! I want one too—!"
Bang!
Sandy fired again without even looking—perfectly lighting Luffy's cigar in one shot.
Usopp burst out, "HEY! Who's the sniper here, me or YOU?!"
Barry snapped and grabbed Sandy by the collar. "You bastard! If you want to light a cigarette, JUST LIGHT IT! Why use something that dangerous?!"
"Do you want to kill me?!" Luffy added angrily.
Sandy scoffed. "You're all so dramatic. It's just lighting a cigarette. You really think I'd kill someone?"
He then straightened up and lectured, "How could an excellent young man like me—handsome, elegant, full of justice, loved by everyone, flower-blooming-level charm—ever do such a dishonorable thing?
Assassination? You think I would stoop to the level of some lowly alley rat? You idiots…"
"Hey, hey…" Usopp muttered.
Lucci stayed expressionless.
Kalifa also stayed expressionless.
Sandy twitched his eye.
Damn. As expected of CP9—they didn't react AT ALL.
Iceberg stepped in. "I'll take you inside. Kaku should be done inspecting your ship."
"Great," Sandy said, hooking his arm around Barry's neck. "Iceberg, see? We brought enough money. Please fix our ship."
Barry, who was taller, awkwardly squatted down as Sandy hung off him.
"Let go, you bastard! And you haven't paid for the cigars! A million Belly each—!"
