Lara's POV
Cammie's words echoed in my mind long after the call ended. "We are leaving tonight. Dress in something fancy as if you are attending a social event."
My hands shook as I folded Cassian's tiny clothes and placed them into his bag. Every soft onesie and pair of socks felt like a farewell. My heart refused to calm down, beating wildly against my ribs as if trying to warn me that I still had time to stop all of this.
Marco had called earlier, his voice warm and tender in a way that made my chest ache. He told me he needed to attend to something important and that Cammie would stay by my side to protect me.
If only he knew what Cammie truly meant when she said she would take care of him.
The door opened lightly, and Cammie stepped inside. I had to blink twice.
She wore a beautiful gown that shimmered with every breath she took. Her hair was styled, her makeup flawless, and she looked exactly like someone who was about to enter a grand celebration.
