Chapter 52 - With Warcraft, word spread across the entire world.

In just fifty days, the total assets of Antarctic Games Company had doubled.

It was exhilarating.

Now he could pat his chest with confidence and boldly declare that he had crushed all his peers.

In the past, the most famous game company in the United States had been Wind and Snow Company.

Though based in America, Wind and Snow relied on the support of a massive French multinational media group—an ancient conglomerate whose foundations were no weaker than those of Stark Industries.

But the modern world only recognized strength.

It didn't matter who stood behind Wind and Snow; what mattered was that they no longer had a single title they could present to the world.

Ever since The King of Fighters was released, concepts like "innovation" and "new gameplay" had ceased to matter.

After being baptized by visuals of that level, players around the world had become impossibly demanding.

Once you've seen the vast ocean, no other water can satisfy you.

After playing The King of Fighters and Warcraft, then looking back at other games, everything felt like a pixelated mosaic—like something played on an old schoolchild's red-and-white console.

Humans were visual creatures.

What was even more frightening was that both games—each one—had absolutely outstanding gameplay as well. Simply perfect.

Other than marveling at these two masterpieces, the official Antarctica forum was filled with countless fans eagerly waiting for the next game.

qq223FDS:Antarctic Dad, to me there are only two games in the world truly worth playing as an adult: The King of Fighters and Warcraft! Really looking forward to the next one!

OMGZING:Thank God, I can finally say something! I used to be a game developer and always thought my games were fun until I met The King of Fighters. From the very first second I started it, my life felt sublimated. I know I'll never be able to create a game like this myself, but at least I can play it as much as I want. Now I'm a professional King of Fighters player. See you at the World Championship!

Heaven·zed:My family has always been open-minded, so I've been exposed to many games since childhood. But all of them were just games—none of them were like Warcraft! How do I describe it… this game is a collection of everything I'm interested in. It feels tailor-made for me. I can play strategy, show off mechanics, test my brain! Even the story behind every character could become a long novel!

Imperial Chariot:You're all acting like kids upstairs! Is Curry Man dead? Talking about brains—pure nonsense! Talk straight!

As Xu Dan browsed the forum, he couldn't help the smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

Now that Warcraft had stabilized, he had deliberately simplified parts of the gameplay to make it easier for newcomers to get started.

He estimated that with this one game alone, the company could eat well for five or six years.

One game. Feeding a company for six years.

That alone showed what kind of achievement it was.

However, Xu Dan was not someone who was easily satisfied. As his abilities and status improved, so did his ambitions.

He had already begun writing the outline for the next game.

At the top of the page, three letters appeared: WOW.

That's right. World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft would inherit Warcraft's story, but the gameplay would be completely different—a full online role-playing game.

From a map-based game to a massive open world, it would undoubtedly set a new industry record.

Of course, producing World of Warcraft would be costly and time-consuming.

Even with the shortcut offered by the special-effects optimization package, they still needed to build every model before optimizing anything.

And simply constructing the models for World of Warcraft would keep the team endlessly busy—especially the technicians who had come from S.H.I.E.L.D. for training. This was an entirely different level from anything they had worked with.

The difficulty was enormous.

Not to mention the vast world, countless quests, and innumerable monsters.

Just the foundational framework of World of Warcraft—if written as a novel—took him months even at a pace of ten thousand words a day.

And the abundance of backstories served as the basis for many questlines.

Once all of that was finished, he could finally begin programming.

To put it simply, this wasn't game development—it was world creation.

Creating a world required meticulous craftsmanship, and Xu Dan's standards for his own work were extremely strict.

It took more than three months just to complete the entire script and narrative planning.

Next came the official production of the game.

He first handed everything he had written to Liva, Skye, and Fire Dance.

If Goenitz weren't so obsessed with reading only the Book of Sages, Xu Dan would have dragged him into this project as well.

Fire Dance, however, was a ninja by training. Learning quickly was second nature to her. After being at the company for so long, she was already fully familiar with its operations and could even manage a team of technicians on her own.

When the three received this mysterious "gift," they were completely absorbed. Fortunately, the company's processes were already running smoothly, and their positions offered flexible time—otherwise something might have gone wrong.

That evening, when Xu Dan invited everyone to dinner as usual, Liva was still holding the thick stack of A4 papers, reading with enthusiasm.

If it had been a hardcover book, the scene might have been elegant. But with her clutching plain office printouts, it instead looked like some boss forcing overtime on his employees.

Xu Dan refused to shoulder that blame.

Suddenly, Liva took a deep breath, slowly set the papers down, and tilted her head upward, eyes closed.

She read quickly—while the other two were only two-thirds through, she had already finished.

After a long moment, she exclaimed, "Wow, God! After reading this story, I honestly feel we might as well invest in making a movie!"

Her voice startled Skye out of her reading, but instead of anger, she was excited. "That's right! I also suggest the boss make a movie! With our special effects, I guarantee the box office will definitely not be low!"

Fire Dance gave a faint smile and stayed silent.

Xu Dan watched everyone's reactions and calmly took a sip of tea.

To be honest, writing all of this had put him under a lot of pressure—but finishing it left him with an immense sense of accomplishment.

"We may do that in the future," he said, "but starting tomorrow, I want everyone involved in developing World of Warcraft. What I want is not an extension of Warcraft, but a vast world built upon its story."
