Chapter 57 - But World of Warcraft was different.

After exiting the game world, Xu Dan turned his attention to the system's points mall. In the lower-right corner, the balance was skyrocketing at a pace that satisfied him greatly.

After staring at it for a few seconds, he noticed that the rising speed had stabilized—steady, fast, and unmistakably fueled by players burning through their energy day and night.

In the past, people played The King of Fighters for a few hours and would eventually feel tired and put it down.Even Warcraft offered that compact rhythm of finishing one match and immediately wanting another, though defeat would sap one's enthusiasm.

But World of Warcraft was different. This beautiful, enchanting world felt like constant exploration—players wandered as if discovering a brand-new universe, stumbling upon new things at every turn.

And then there were the thrilling group boss fights, raids, and team battles.

Players were losing track of time completely.

Day turned into night, then back into day again without them even realizing it—until they suddenly noticed that an entire day had passed.

Students who were supposed to be heading to school stared in horror, scrambling for their phones to call in "sick." What else could they do? They forgot their homework. Show up unprepared and get scolded? No way.

Office workers cursed under their breath, the sleepiness gone in an instant. They glanced reluctantly at the game one last time, splashed cold water on their faces, and rushed out to catch the bus—only to discover that half the other commuters looked like fellow cultivation immortals who hadn't slept either.

The system points soon surpassed ten million, racing toward twenty million. At this rate, it would likely hit a hundred million within a week.

Incredible.Truly incredible.

Knock, knock!

A knock sounded at the door. Xu Dan instantly closed the system panel and said, "Come in."

Riva walked in, holding a document. Her expression made it clear—it was big news.

"Dan, Guinness has created a record for you: Best Game Man!"

"Huh?" Xu Dan blinked, confused, and quickly took the document to look it over.

He had heard of developers earning Guinness World Record certificates before—like Hideo Kojima being included in Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008 for Metal Gear Solid.

But Best Game Man?What kind of title was that supposed to be? It sounded like a tacky award given out by a low-budget variety show.

His expression softened only after reading the document. So this was Riva being playful—she had shortened the name of the actual Guinness project.

"This kind of thing doesn't interest me at all. I didn't even apply. What authority do they have to certify me?"

"Dan, you're too humble."

"Anything else?"

"Well… several companies are preparing to join forces to suppress us. Not just gaming companies—others too. Even clothing companies have started targeting us."

Xu Dan gave her a speechless look, then glanced at Riva's lovely face and sighed with a helpless smile. "That's quite a reaction. Our little sapling hasn't even grown yet, and already they're trying to chop it down."

"That only proves we have great potential, doesn't it?" Riva replied calmly, as if the company's success was her pride as well.

Her earnestness warmed him.

"You look like you have something else on your mind."

Riva hesitated before finally speaking. "I heard recently that the Professor is ill… I'd like to go back to visit him."

Xu Dan understood Riva's identity—and naturally understood the significance of that bald professor. But for someone constantly surrounded by capable people, could he really fall ill?

Still, Professor X meant a great deal to Riva. Mutants were a discriminated group in society, and he had given them confidence—a reason to live.

Seeing the emotion in her expression, Xu Dan agreed. "Go. Bring some gifts. And give the doctor my regards."

Riva's eyes widened in astonishment.

Right now, with World of Warcraft exploding in popularity, every employee was expected to be fully committed—no vacations, no time off. This was the perfect launch period, and every staff member needed to stay at their post to ensure nothing went wrong.

Any detected bug had to be fixed immediately.

Taking leave now should have been impossible.

Yet Xu Dan approved it without hesitation.

She felt… spoiled.

The truth was, anything Xu Dan created simply didn't have bugs—and certainly no cheats. His games were flawless by nature.

"Thank you," Riva said softly. Then she stepped forward and gave Xu Dan a gentle, obedient kiss.

"Go early, come back early," Xu Dan said, giving her a playful smack on the hip.

————————

As the boss's personal secretary, Riva's authority was well recognized throughout the company. She needed no additional documents to leave.

She didn't truly need to bring gifts to visit Professor X.

But Xu Dan was Chinese, and his customs were different. Out of respect for him, she would bring something anyway.

After picking up some "gifts" from the company, she headed to the underground garage, got into her personal car, and drove toward Westchester.

Professor X's school was technically located in New York, not far away—another reason Xu Dan felt at ease letting her go alone.

To outsiders, it was the "Xavier Gifted Junior School."Only a very small number of people knew it was actually the X-Academy.

A school filled entirely with mutants.

From old-timers like Wolverine to kids as young as six or seven.

Riva's return instantly caught everyone's attention.

It was like a mutant version of a class reunion.

The abilities they once considered useless—"chicken-rib skills"—were now attached to someone who had become a dazzling figure in society.

How could so many young gamers living here not know about Antarctic Game Company?

And knowing the company, how could they not know the goddess-like spokesperson—Riva?

Those who had social experience and those who had stayed in the academy radiated different temperaments. As they looked at Riva, their eyes were filled with awe and envy.

Riva had always been pretty, but during her school days her frustration and insecurity had masked it, making her seem unapproachable.

Now she was radiant—shining.

She had obtained the normal life most mutants dreamed of.And she lived it with grace.

Their gazes were filled with longing and admiration, but there was no negativity in Riva's eyes as she looked back.

She saw them like an elder looking at younger siblings.

Ignoring the stunned looks around her, Riva walked straight toward Professor X's office.

Even though the Professor was sick, he still insisted on teaching classes.
