Riva walked up to the door but didn't interrupt Professor X's class.
Of course, with his extraordinary psychic perception, Professor X had already noticed her return. He wrapped up the day's lesson as quickly as possible and dismissed the children.
Once the last student had left, Riva stepped inside.
"Professor."
"Riva, welcome back." Professor X smiled, his gaze warm—like an old father seeing his daughter after a long time.
No matter how those troublemaking kids viewed Riva, he had always considered her a bright, capable child.
"Professor, you look terrible. Why aren't you resting?" Riva asked with concern.
"Later. First—Riva, you seem… different. Beautiful, even. Care to tell me what happened?"
Riva blushed, gathered herself, and then recounted everything—from the moment she met Xu Dan all the way to the present.
As the name "Xu Dan" surfaced again and again, Professor X's heart stirred with excitement.
Although he possessed formidable psychic abilities, he never invaded students' privacy. He had no intention of reading Riva's thoughts without permission.
But he truly hadn't expected that Riva was now involved with that Xu Dan—currently one of the most talked-about figures in the world.
He was no out-of-touch old man; he kept up with the times. He understood games, had read about Xu Dan, and admired the young man deeply.
It could be said that Xu Dan had saved her.
In a society where mutants faced discrimination, students of the Academy often lacked direction. As children, games and daily stimulation kept them occupied. But as they grew, they longed to step into the outside world, only to find doors closed everywhere.
The Academy could not shelter them forever.
It was rare—almost miraculous—for a mutant like Riva to integrate flawlessly into society and pursue her own goals.
Professor X's interest in Xu Dan was not only professional admiration—it was gratitude for the boy who helped guide one of his students toward a better life.
"Riva… are you in love with him?"
This time, Riva didn't shy away. She nodded openly. "He's charming, isn't he?"
"Yes. When I was young, I was just as charming."
"Hee-hee."
As the two talked, a blue figure suddenly rushed in.
Riva turned—and saw a bulky man with wild blue fur, looking like a cross between a gorilla and a monkey. An ordinary person might have fainted from sheer shock.
But Riva was a mutant. She knew this was hardly unusual.
The blue gorilla was none other than Beast—Hank, a brilliant mutant scientist.
Riva greeted him politely and stepped aside.
"Hank, this is the seventh time today you've barged in without knocking," Professor X said, feigning annoyance.
Beast scratched his head awkwardly, then apologized. "Sorry for interrupting."
"You're here about that again, aren't you?" Professor X said sharply.
Beast nodded eagerly. "The simulation battle program is too massive. I can't finish it alone. Professor, are you absolutely sure you won't help me?"
The simulated battle room—where Wolverine and the others had fought intense virtual battles.A machine capable of creating real-combat scenarios for training.
An invaluable tool for mutants to develop control and experience.
"Hank, calm down. How exactly do you expect me to help you?" Professor X asked.
Beast froze. Right—this wasn't the Professor's specialty. And inside the Academy, who else could assist him?
But he refused to give up. He clenched his jaw. "Then we can seek outside help!"
"Outside help?"
The moment he said it, Professor X's mind moved quickly.Combined with his earlier conversation with Riva—the answer appeared instantly.
Xu Dan.
Based on everything Riva described, Xu Dan completed his games entirely on his own. And judging from market reactions, not a single game of his had ever contained a bug.
"Hank… what do you think of Xu Dan?"
"Xu Dan?"
"Xu Dan?!"
Riva and Hank exclaimed at the same time.
"Professor, Xu Dan might be extremely busy…" Riva said quickly, instinctively trying to shield Xu Dan.
"I've studied Xu Dan's games," Hank said with a serious nod. "His programming is flawless. Some of his techniques even I can't fully understand yet. If it's Xu Dan—well, he's a genius in game development. His skills align perfectly with our virtual battle system!"
Professor X nodded thoughtfully, then shifted his gaze to Riva.
She immediately shook her head like a rattled drum.
Ah… a daughter in love truly belonged to someone else.
She was impossible to reel back now.
Sigh.
"Hank, I understand. I'll contact Mr. Xu Dan later. You can go."
Overjoyed, Beast laughed aloud, gathered his pile of documents, and hurried away.
Riva spent a familiar and comforting afternoon at the Academy before heading back to Xu Dan's villa.
But the whole drive, her mind raced.
If Professor X contacted Xu Dan suddenly… would Xu Dan think she betrayed him?Would he misunderstand her intentions?
She didn't want that. Not even a little.
What was meant to be a happy visit might end up causing friction between them—maybe even harming their relationship. She absolutely refused to let that happen.
If something like that really happened… she'd rather die than face it.
Arriving at the villa, she parked in the underground garage, hurried upstairs, and unlocked the door with her key.
She needed to explain everything before Professor X reached out—to give Xu Dan a "heads-up," so he wouldn't think she had pushed this idea.
That way, if Professor X contacted him, the responsibility would clearly lie with the Professor.
The first-floor hall—where Xu Dan usually stayed—was dim and empty today.
A bad feeling washed over her. Her heartbeat quickened. She rushed up to the second floor.
The villa had three levels. The first floor housed most of the recreational facilities; the second floor was all bedrooms. She had never been to the third.
But when she stepped into Xu Dan's room, she saw him—on the phone.
