Xu Dan had promised Professor X he would visit Xavier's School at a later date.
But rather than wait for a perfect moment, he decided to seize the day.The next morning, after the company finished its routine monitoring of World of Warcraft's data—and seeing that nothing new had happened anyway—he left everything to Skye and the others. After all, World of Warcraft didn't have bugs; supervision was just a formality.
He drove alone to the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in Westchester.
The moment he arrived, he couldn't help feeling surprised.
In his impression, X Academy should be bustling, full of mutants of all ages and levels—lively, energetic, chaotic.
But what was going on today?
There wasn't a single person outside.
He continued down the corridors. Only after walking deeper into the building did he finally spot a few scattered figures.
A handful of young girls glanced at him curiously, clearly recognizing him as an unfamiliar face.
But… just a few little girls?
Had X Academy gone bankrupt? Its entire population seemed to have withered away.
He kept walking forward, unsure how long the corridor stretched.Only when he reached a corner did he begin to hear sounds—faint at first, growing louder with each step.
It sounded lively. As lively as a high school study hall.
"Wow! Jerrell, your orc warrior is so handsome! I want that weapon he's holding! It's insanely cool!"
"Aifu, Aifu, where are you? I'm in the desert—I can't find you! You're a total GPS disaster even in-game!"
"Kailing, can you let me play your female elf for a bit? I'm dying!"
…
Wait. Why did this sound exactly like an internet café from his school days?
Ask anyone their most unforgettable student memory—was it a failed confession? A teacher's scolding?
No.It was five brothers pulling an all-night dungeon run.
Chaotic, colorful trash-talk… but god, it was fun.
Listening to these voices now felt like reliving those days.
Curious, Xu Dan followed the sound down the long hallway and stopped before a door.He leaned toward the small window.
Inside was a room full of teenagers sitting in neat rows—facing computers.
A computer lab.
These must be the mutant students.
Instead of hanging out outside, they'd all gathered here… to play games.
As he approached, the voices inside became perfectly clear.
"Kailing, look at this skill—doesn't it look like my ability?"
"Wow! Amazing. Then do you think this grass looks like fifty dollars?"
"Huh? What? I mean this game is so awesome I don't even want to go to the professor's class. It's fun in its own way, but it can't compare to this!"
…
Squeak—
Xu Dan accidentally nudged the door open.
The faint sound was enough to make every student inside freeze as if electrocuted—instant silence.
Exactly the same atmosphere as when the homeroom teacher walks into class unannounced.
Except this time, the ones sitting there were mutants with superpowers… and no teacher stood at the podium.
Dozens of stunned faces stared back at him.
Among them were older kids—rebellious types who weren't intimidated by strangers.
"Who are you?"A tall, ordinary-looking boy stood up and asked.
He looked a bit mature, but next to Xu Dan, they were all children.
Xu Dan studied him.He looked familiar. This kid… seemed like the fire-powered one.
In the X-Men storyline, there was Iceman and Pyro—opposites with clashing abilities. They weren't major characters, so he didn't remember every detail.
"I'm… Are you all playing World of Warcraft?"
Hearing the words "World of Warcraft" from a stranger felt like hearing someone in a high school internet café suddenly say, "You play too? What server?"
The tension eased slightly.
"Yes, we're playing World of Warcraft. Uncle, don't tell me you know the game?"A little girl piped up with sharp confidence."What level are you? I'm level 15, and John is already 23! Uncle, don't tell me you haven't even created a character yet?"
Her "uncle" jabs didn't bother Xu Dan at all.
They were just kids. An adult shouldn't take teasing seriously.
But now he knew the tall boy's name—John.
Right, Pyro. The kid who couldn't generate flames, only control them.A weaker counterpart to Iceman.
Xu Dan chuckled.
Pyro spoke again, "Hey, do you really play World of Warcraft? Or are you a cloud gamer?"
The class erupted into laughter.
The term "cloud player" was still wildly popular on the official Antarctic Games forum.
Xu Dan shrugged and started walking toward John.
The kid clearly knew a lot about Antarctic's games.A real fan.Good target for… subtle top-up persuasion. Yes.
"What are you doing?"John bristled, immediately on guard.
Xu Dan, however, had no ill intent.
He simply reached John's desk, grabbed the mouse, and forced a logout on John's level-23 noob mage.
"Hey! What are you doing?!"
"Wow, he actually forced John back to the character screen. Is there a penalty for that?"
"Penalty? I've never heard of any penalty. Did you learn Warcraft from Trek or something?"
"Shut up—just watch him!"
Xu Dan's fingers moved quickly across the keyboard as he logged into a unique account—his own.
"Oh, he's trying to prove himself? Looks like another rich guy who bought his gear. But World of Warcraft doesn't let money affect gameplay…"
"Look, he's logged in. It's…"
"…"
Silence.
The room froze.
Not one breath.
After several seconds, the students in the front row finally gasped.
Because on the screen—
—stood a dark dragon.
Anything associated with the word "dragon" was, by default, terrifying.
And this one?A purebred black dragon.
Overwhelming presence.Eyes like twin abysses.
Anyone who had ever played World of Warcraft knew exactly who it was.
Deathwing.
Neltharion, the Black Dragon King.
But even more outrageous—even more unbelievable—
A human figure was standing proudly on Deathwing's massive head.
