Antarctic Game Building.
Early in the morning, Xu Dan received a stack of documents.
Apparently, World of Warcraft had been subjected to malicious slander from rival companies.
Xu Dan didn't care in the slightest.
As the saying goes, a tall tree attracts the wind. He didn't even need to look at the reports to know exactly which companies were behind the smear campaign—the biggest competitors in the gaming industry, of course.
Only peers would stoop to such tactics. Only peers could.
With Warcraft culture sweeping into reality itself, those companies were being starved of players—naturally, they panicked.
Xu Dan glanced over the report and laughed. Whether a game is good or not, anyone with eyes can judge. The players would speak for him.
He had far more important things to do.
"System, open the Points Mall."
Ding-dong!
With a crisp chime, a virtual interface unfolded before him.
The digital shelves were packed—far more than before. Xu Dan glanced toward the lower right corner, where his points balance had grown into a nine-digit figure.
He couldn't help the satisfied smile. Developing World of Warcraft had definitely been the right decision. Players were hopelessly addicted to that world, and he could sit comfortably in this one while reaping the profits.
…
[Skill Category][Item Category][Character Category][Pet Category]…
Previously, the mall had only contained the first three sections. The skill card he gave to Banner had been taken from the item category.
Now, there was a brand-new Pet Category.
Curious, he tapped it open.
The first thing he saw was an entire page of pet eggs.
He wasn't sure why mammals were suddenly laying eggs, but since the system displayed it that way, he certainly wasn't going to try correcting it like some forum mod nitpicking a post.
[Pet Egg: Mini Hydra]: 20,000 points[Pet Egg: Moon Shell Crab]: 21,000 points[Pet Egg: Chocobo]: 30,000 points
"Seriously? A chocobo? A land-walking shark-bird? This picture is kind of wild…"
Muttering his complaints, Xu Dan kept scrolling.
There were nine pages in total, and the deeper he went, the stranger things became. Not only actual WoW pets—apparently even creatures that weren't pets in the game could be purchased as pets here.
Simply ridiculous—and amazing.
Finally, on the last page, he found the ultimate pet egg.
[Pet Egg: Deathwing]: 888,888,888 points!!
"More than eight hundred million? Good lord. Who's supposed to afford that?!"
He complained, but realistically—if Deathwing-level power could be purchased so easily, that would be the real problem.
Otherwise, he'd already be riding a dragon straight into the sky.
In the end, he settled for spending 100,000 points on a Frostwolf Ghost Pup.
Pet pups and pet eggs were very different: eggs required incubation—time, specific conditions, a whole tedious process. A pup, however, could be used instantly.
"Purchase successful!"
With the system's chime, a small translucent wolf pup appeared at Xu Dan's feet.
Barely thirty centimeters long, looking just past its full moon, it was adorably tiny—milk-soft and irresistible.
Xu Dan bent down and picked it up, surprised to feel actual weight and texture.
Probably a special system feature—though it was a ghost, the owner could still touch it. Otherwise, why buy a pet you couldn't even pet?
He examined the little wolf. One ear perked up, the other still flopped. Its sleepy eyes were half-open, as if it had just woken. A single tuft of hair stuck straight up from its head.
Just this expression alone would charm half the women in the building.
Its fur shimmered faintly—a ghostly frost wolf. Ordinary people probably wouldn't even see it clearly. Whether they could see it at all was another question entirely.
"Too cute. Even cuter than a baby husky. I just don't know if, when you grow up, you'll awaken the same house-destroying ability. Lucky for you, I have a big place. Go ahead—tear it up."
Xu Dan chuckled and set the pup on his desk.
It sat obediently, head tilted, its hazy little eyes locked on him.
System-linked pets really were different—they understood him instinctively. Not like ordinary cats and dogs where "sit" meant "run wildly in a circle."
"Very obedient. I wonder if you can eat bones."
Thinking that, he pressed the landline and dialed Liva.
"Dan?" Liva answered immediately—only Xu Dan used that internal number. No one else had the clearance.
"Liva, send someone to buy me a bone. From a calf. Fresh and tender."
"...Huh?"
"What?"
"Are you sure you want cow bones? What do you need that for?"
"To eat."
"...Alright."
She hung up helplessly. Her boss's requests had been getting stranger by the day.
While waiting, Xu Dan held the little wolf in one arm and reopened the Points Mall.
Buying a pet wasn't his main intention—it was just too cute, so he bought it impulsively.
His true purpose was to find suitable skills to enhance his own strength.
The last battle against the Sabretooth Tiger in the X Academy's virtual training room had exposed his shortcomings.
If he struggled that much against a mid-tier mutant like Sabretooth… what about the rest of the Marvel world? Monsters crawled everywhere. With his current power, forget fighting—he might not even survive.
He browsed through the Skill Category and eventually settled on purchasing several racial traits as passive body abilities.
The system didn't restrict racial traits to their original races. As the host, he could use all of them.
Then he switched to the Item Category.
The items were numerous and varied—far beyond the original game's offerings. Even objects that existed in lore but were never created as in-game items were available.
The variety was enormous—and so was the quantity. The Pet Category had nine pages, but the Item Category ended with "…", meaning the list continued far beyond visible digits.
Finding treasures in this pile required luck.
Fortunately, today Xu Dan's luck was excellent.
He quickly discovered something extremely practical.
