Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Great Just Great

She slowly sat up in her bed, an exhausted, mildly irritated sigh escaping her moist, yet mildly chapped lips. Her room was small, only being able to fit a one-person bed, nightstand, drawer, and standing fan at the foot of the bed. She looked at the window next to her bed, and opened the old timey rose patterned curtains, then the metal blinds that screeched as they rubbed against the also metal frame. She took in a breath of fresh air and slipped into her sandals while putting on a white dress with a sunflower pattern at the bottom of it. That somehow, thankfully had pockets.

She then opened a drawer on her nightstand, revealing a silver revolver with a golden rose pattern all over it. 6 shots in the chamber. She picked it up and walked out into the living room, which has 2 red sofas and a red couch that all faced towards an old timey TV. To her left a gated door, and a curtain that led to her kitchen. All of these things having an old-timey flower pattern.

She stood around for a bit, waiting as she felt a mild tingling sensation in the back of her head. Something similar to this had happened back when she was a child. She had a dream in which she could've sworn she woke up, then when she died in the dream she actually woke up. Expecting nothing to happen she went on about her day, but later the exact same thing happened when she was actually awake, which with the previous knowledge of what might happen in her head she managed to survive.

This time it was similar, she'd dreamt of something then died and woken up with a massive headache. She pretended to be leaving, then as she did, she quickly turned around and fired at will. Hitting someone who's both robbed and masked right between the eyes at point blank range. She shivered, not expecting it to actually be real yet it worked. Then the person and the traces of blood and brain bits that flew all over the floor disappeared into dust. She then put the revolver in her dresses pocket.

'So, it wasn't real? Weird. I guess I've got to go see the doctor about this.' She thought as she opened the gate, then the door and walked out of the house, taking in some more of that fresh air, just that now it was dusty, salty, and a little bloodied. She walked down the dirt road, seeing the tricycles and carriages drive past her, completely ignoring her as she walked.

The town was small yet cozy. Most of the buildings were made out of unpainted bricks that were slightly cracked in the seemed of the asphalt connecting them. There were also buildings that were painted sure, but most people couldn't afford that. In fact, most people didn't even have glass windows and made their own makeshift blinds out of any sturdy material, that when closed, would basically seal shut. Keeping them and their personal belongings safe at night. Yet there were also just straight up ship containers being used as homes or storage for street sellers.

The townspeople are usually always friendly to everyone, but they all gave her dirty looks. She was the only one they weren't kind to. Sure, she was human, no one would deny her that; but they all disliked her anyways. She always attempted to be nice and respectful, but they just awkwardly rubbed her off, no matter how friendly or appealing her smile was towards them.

After all her appearance awfully matched the description of an ancient witch that caused a lot of chaos and destruction worldwide. She had half black, half silver hair, and hue violet eyes. Not only that, but the void colored 4 tipped star shape that she was born with near the center of her clavicle was a mark of that witch.

So, they all judged her for it, never giving her a second chance.

But that didn't stop her from being as kind to them as she could, not because she wanted acceptance or anything, but because she didn't want to give them an actual reason to hate her. After all, who knew what they'd do if they did have a reason to hate her?

Eventually she reached the doctor's office, and to get her out for the other patients as fast as possible, she was instantly attended to.

She looked at the doctor and with a seemingly emotionless tone said, "Good morning doctor. I don't know about you, but my mornings been pretty eventful so far. I could've sworn I saw someone standing in front of me when I woke up, then they suddenly disappeared." She lied completely as usual.

Whenever it came to coming to the doctors, she made sure to either add or take away a little bit of detail from her symptoms or stories. Which she knew for a fact wasn't smart because then she might be given the wrong medicine, but she was never given a reason to trust the townspeople in the first place considering their feelings towards her.

The old looking doctor, with a bald head and grey mustache just nodded and gave her a small little purple thing that looked like a tiny shard of glass. "Here, this should help, it looks like glass, but you have to leave it in your mouth for a bit. It's been concocted in a way that allows the amylase in your saliva to somehow break it down." Hirune looked at him doubtfully, then proceeded to do exactly what he said. Sitting in his office for a couple minutes before leaving just to be safe.

She found herself throwing up into the ocean from a peer. Whatever that purple thing was made her sick to her stomach, not just that but judging that nothing purple came out, it was still in her system.

She looked out into the ocean. Trying to calm down as she stared at the glittering red glow of the sea. Nearly no signs of life being apparent near the shore.

Then she saw a fin. It was extremely rare to see any form of life in the ocean, but there she was, seeing a fin, specifically a shark fin. She stared for a while before realizing it was rapidly approaching her.

Then suddenly the fin jumped out of the water revealing a human. Her eyes widened recognizing the figure, after all that ocean blue hair was the only defining feature of her classmate Kala, but why did Kala have a shark tail and fin? Kala lands and stumbles onto her knocking her over, but Kala quickly grabs her hand and starts running. She questioned following her, but Kala's breath was shaky, and she sounded exhausted, so she was probably running from something dangerous.

Eventually they reached an empty alley, and they stopped. "Introductions-" Kala cuts her off. "No need, you're Hirune Amatsari the witch. I'm Kala Mordia."

She stared at her for a moment. "So... Why were we running? And from what?"

Kala took a moment to respond catching her breath. "So, I was getting chased down by a lava lady because I tried to take the volcano artifact to avoid anyone else getting it."

Hirune stared at her for a while. She was expecting her to elaborate but she didn't seem to catch the hint that she has no clue what a single word she just said meant. "I didn't catch a single thing you said could you come again?"

Kala ignored her and stared at her for a second. Then she whistled. The whistle was weird, it kind of sounded like a raven call combined with a dying animal of any sort. Then suddenly a crow that has 8 eyes and very puffy feathers glided down and landed on Kala's shoulder. "Check her for artifact consumption."

The crow squawked and flew around Hirune a couple times. Then it started to squawk rapidly. "Well...That's something, he says you're half-witch."

They stared at each other for a moment as the crow flew away. "So, you're just going to ignore the question? Also, WHA-" "la la la la la."

'Did she just "la la la la la" me?' Hirune thought before sighing. "Well, whatever you're doing I've got to go. Also, that crow thing? Yeah, it's weird and it didn't have anything to do with the situation."

As she turned around to get on her merry way, she suddenly lost conscious.

Hirune then suddenly found herself in an unfamiliar place, that for some reason simultaneously, felt like home. It was a room with a destroyed long table that reminds her of medieval telenovelas, and chairs littered all over the room, a large pair of dark doors at the front of the room. The only source of lighting being a chandelier that has 8 golden flames around it and 1 red flame in the middle.

Hirune stood up from the black marvel throne decorated with purple and red glass that she was sitting on. She then peeked her head behind it, she wasn't sure why. It was almost like muscle memory that she did this.

When she did look behind the throne, she saw a woman with fully silver hair that has black highlights in it and purple eyes. She's wearing a black tiara with purple diamonds in it and is wearing a black short dress with many frills around the bottom, making it seem like a mix of a modern dress and Victorian dress.

"Uh, hi? May I know where I am? Or who you are?" She asked nervously, still trying to sound polite.

She looked up at her, "I'm the witch of legends. Ruler of 1/4 of the surface of this world, Queen of Apathy and Famine, Empress of Shadows, Namulenza Amatsari."

Hirune stared at this 'Namulenza' lady confused, then the lady suddenly gasped, "Oh my gods! Hiru! I haven't seen you since you were an itty-bitty baby!"

She suddenly hugged her. Now Hirune understood slightly why this place might feel so familiar. If she truly knew this woman from her infancy, she's got to have been here at some point.

"Well, long time no see, I guess?" Hirune said nervously, trying to play along until she figured out where she was.

Namulenza giggled, "Wait here! I'm going to go tell my chefs to make you something!" She left through some large, gated doors and ran off somewhere. Then Hirune's vision suddenly started to blur, and she was out like a light again.

Hirune woke up on a couch. She looked around and saw Kala holding a spear, and three strangers standing around her in what seemed to be a secret base. All she could think right now as, 'Who was that?' Almost as if she's completely ignoring her surroundings from the confusion of that weird dream.

'Great, just great.' Hirune thought annoyed and fearful.
