10 armored soldiers
vs
A big black hole in the middle of the street.
Seem like even odds.
[Wave 1 will begin now]
Slight fluctuations in the gate, and goblins slowly started appearing.
40 of them - a squad of goblins. These ones were different from before.
These ones were prepared. Organized. Armed much better.
Front ones, with spears and wooden shields.
Behind those, swords and scraps armors
And the last row, knives, maces , picks or clubs.
A nice attack squad, made to kill. But the worst par about them wasn`t the numbers or weapons. It was how they acted. And that they were calm. Too calm.
When the goblins came out, they didn`t charge instantly, they didn`t scream.
No, they just starred the humans down, watching.
The humans weren`t that calm. Their armored covered their faces, but the trembling body is still visible even under kilos of metal.
Excitement from a second ago was gone, replaced but sweat and in some, fear.
Gripping his sword tightly seemed to help Adam a bit. Just before, he wanted this. He longed for it. But now, not so much. 1 goblin was easy to kill, 10 was doable. This. This is different.
Armor was on him, the sword was in his hands, but neither was in his head.
And to top it off, another change in the gate happened, a slightly different goblin came out.
Just, more greener, with more armor and a spear with a cloth on it.
*gulp* someone was not very good at concealing their reactions, but it`s not like anyone else disagreed. This was serious now.
"ALRIGHT PEOPLE" Someone came forward. "You see that one"
he pointed a trembling sword at the horde
"That`s the commander probably " the last part was really quiet , still most of the "soldiers" heard "We need to get that one as fast as possible"
*Silence* But a good one, since there was far less trembling metal men now. scared yes, but prepared for the fear. Its like playing a horror game. You know what`s about to happen, you don`t know when or how. But you are ready,
Meanwhile the enemy "commander" also pointed his spear-flag-standard-thing towards them
*KRAAGHAAAAAAAAAA" he shouted out loud
*AU AU AUUU* the goblins raised their weapons and started to charge forward, tips and blades aimed at the humans.
Adam swallowed, and gripped both hands at the swords hilt, and prepared for the assault, the people around him tried similar things. Except the front man who put his sword above his head and started to walk forward.
"MEN. FORWARD" and slashed at the first goblin that was already in his range. And he did actually hit him, the problem was that the monster also did. As well as the 2 others next to him. And sure, armor was very helpful at stopping spears from ripping through his body, but they didn`t prevent all damage. 2 struck the man and bounced off, but one managed to get around the metal and hit the flesh.
Then the rest of the spear-goblins started to thrust at the "soldiers" who were closest and of course, Adam was one of them. Despite the emotions, most of the people managed to either not get hit or block the attacks, delivering a strong counter as a response.
And then the remaining monsters came, and the remaining humans got to the fight.
It was much shorter than expected. Each armored "soldier" could take on 2-3 goblins at the same time, maybe survive against 4. But the front man was alienated, and wounded very quickly.
But his determination didn`t allow him to fall.
"COME AT ME YOU GREEN BASTARDS" as he chopped the nearest head off.
With 2 spears sticking out of him, he was wildly swinging his sword, hoping to do something.
Sadly but not surprisingly, the back row managed to get to him. Maces and picks penetrated the armor, and finished his suffering quickly.
Adam was doing much much better. The first spear was dodged and riposted with a bash to the torso. Then a pair of sword-goblins charged at him from both sides, left coming with a slash from below, the right one preparing a thrust to the chest.
There wasn`t much time for decision, nor a time to prime a big attack. He didn`t need anything grand thankfully. His body did the next thing almost instinctively, and his flame made a sparky show as in response.
He charged with his shoulder in front, running into the goblin and then pushing his sword into his chest. The thrust was coming towards his back, and Adam tried to move away as fast as possible, but his blade was still stuck in the goblin`s dying body.
*AAAARGGGHTHHHH* the goblin screamed in higher pitch, probably happier.
Adam pulled with everything he had, falling over a good distance and in the same time pulling his sword through the body. Blood splattered around. Both pulled themselves back to fighting positions and looked at the enemy, blades reached out to kill and legs already on the move.
But Adam was taller, faster and with a bigger sword, so the tip managed to push into the skull before the goblin`s was touching his hair. Adam pulled out the blade quickly and looked around. 4 more coming at him, spear sword and double maces.
He smiled under the helmet.
"COME AND GET SOME" He fixed his grip, swallowed spit and moved forward.
