I stepped closer, trembling, but my resolve hardened. "We'll stop them," I said, voice firm despite the fear curling in my chest. "We'll fight, no matter what. Even if it kills us."
Darian laughed again, bitter and dark, before Kaelan shoved him away, letting the wolves restrain him. "Keep him alive for now," Kaelan said. "We need answers and if the Covenant knows he's captured… we might have a chance to turn this to our advantage."
I nodded, adrenaline still surging through me. My gaze wandered to the shadows beyond the clearing, half-expecting another figure to appear, another trap waiting. The tension was thick, suffocating, but it was only the beginning.
Kaelan finally let out a long breath. "This isn't over. Darian's just the first piece. The Covenant is already moving, and we have to be faster."
