On the waiting bench near the hospital lobby, Naima slumped down in exhaustion. Her breath was still uneven, her hands slightly trembling. Her heart was pounding fast, as if she had just finished a marathon through the chaos of the ambulance and emergency room.
Then, she froze. Her eyes dropped to her own outfit.
"Green cardigan, black tank top, beige culottes, white sneakers… and a mask!" she murmured, half laughing. "Wait—am I… an extra in CBS?!"
Naima looked around, making sure no one was watching her too closely. She patted her cardigan and grinned wide.
"I remember this scene! A mom rushed into the ER with a baby, her five-year-old son broke his arm from falling off a tree. And there was this random girl who brought them to the hospital… wearing exactly this outfit, with a mask…"
She lowered her head, laughing quietly. "And that random girl was me!"
Naima glanced at her reflection again and burst out laughing.
