Chapter 12 - CHAPTER TWELVE: STRANGE TALES

She gave him a rinsed apple, and she had a banana for herself. "They were when I was there, sadly, I didn't take note of their faces to track them down."

He took a small bite of his apple. It would be nice if they had some of the passengers to interrogate; he is still in shock at them being alive.

There were numerous topics for them to discuss.

She admired the black and white wedding photo as she took a bite of her banana, "Please don't tell me you want to leave already, now that you know what happened in the tunnel. You promised something in the tunnel."

He snorted at her statement. He already knew that she had tried to do this; the fact that he couldn't remember a single detail of what happened was putting him at a disadvantage.

"I don't remember anything." He stated, and Renu took out a black-and-white photo from her clothes.

"When I woke up here, this photo appeared beside me. For the following days, I executed each of the exes that also came to life, and something was changing. Look at my wedding dress in this picture."

It was also a wedding picture? Ren was curious and checked the photo handed to him; it was basically the same as the one on the wall, but this time, her wedding dress was getting more colorful.

"Interesting." He commented.

She smiled. "I really like the dress."

"Yeah, it's good material. You look nice." He praised.

"Anyway, it seems killing each of the exes made me a bit freer. I started to understand that this photo represents the memory of the dead that has been left in reality." She said, putting the photo back into her clothes.

He was a bit dazed, taking a big bite of his apple. "You killed all the exes within a short span of days?"

She nodded with an embarrassed giggle, finishing her banana and dumping the peel into a dustbin.

He clapped for her. Such dedication was admirable; she had many negative qualities, but one had to give her credit for being determined—a beneficial attribute to have in a partner.

"No wonder you can roam the city freely." He said, and she shrugged.

"I want to be like you." She admitted in a deeper voice, and warning alarms rang in his mind.

Her eyes became a bit dark. "After multiple attempts, I found out that when this game becomes a reality. There is a certain process; the worse the game, the slower it fuses with the city, as it displays warnings and signals. To be fully triggered before the ghost stories, there must be three conditions fulfilled: A house of a person who has died, an obituary photo, and you."

Ren realized she had all three, and she wanted to chase the ghost story games and absorb them before the ghosts in the game became mature.

He wiped the sweat forming on his body. This was getting serious already; this was something he had helped her with.

"I have nothing to lose from this. I want to get my life back, so if you are ready to test your theory now. I am with you." He assured her, as of right now. She was the only person he could entirely rely on.

He continued. "This house is the game venue, the photo is a ticket, and I am like

She completed it. " A conduit." She went to drag a handbag from the floor and opened it up. There were eight photos without any portraits.

She giggled as she showed him. "I have a lot of tickets."

He was shocked. "Look at you."

Footsteps were heard near the corridor, then the doorbell rang.

Renu covered the photo on the wall with the velvet cloth, and Ren went to open the door.

To his surprise, it was the old woman who searched his room when he called the police. He had forgotten about her. Why was she here?

The woman was wearing a jet-black jumpsuit with a white scarf covering her head, her face devoid of any noticeable emotion.

She said in a monotone voice. "I have to authorize that you leave this apartment. This room is hazardous. Or do you already know that, Mister Ren?"
