The room was a mess of scattered clothes and the soft, breathless sounds of two people tangled up in each other's chaos. Joseph lay beneath her, flushed, dazed, his hands struggling to find something to hold onto while Beatrice stayed above him, fully in control. Her hand curled lightly around the back of his neck, keeping him exactly where she wanted him.
He tried to breathe, but every time she shifted closer, his breath hitched in his throat.
Beatrice lowered her lips to his forehead, giving him a slow, almost tender kiss. Her voice brushed against his ear.
"How's the girl doing?"
Joseph blinked up at her, completely caught off guard. "W… what?"
"Aliana." Her face hovered close, her eyes sharp even in the dim light. "Where is she?"
"At… at the apartment." He swallowed, trying to focus on her instead of how overwhelmed he felt.
Beatrice laughed softly, a short quiet sound that made his stomach twist. "Good."
