Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: "He can even heal?"

Ren flexed his fingers, feeling the faint ache pulsing through his bones as light energy wrapped around his arm.

"So broken bones take a while to heal up, huh?" he muttered, exhaling slowly.

The glow flickered. His leg still throbbed. His arm still felt stiff.

He tilted his head, thinking. "Let's see if it's faster if I fuse Soothing Touch and Healing Light together…"

Closing his eyes, he focused. Weld.

A spark of pain lanced through his chest — brief, but sharp. It wasn't as bad as before.

Maybe the two Quirks were just more compatible.

Or maybe he was getting stronger.

Or both.

Ren breathed through the sting, waiting for the energy to stabilize. Then he channeled it into his damaged limbs.

The effect was immediate — the warmth spread faster, the pain fading almost instantly as his arm and leg straightened and knitted back into place.

He blinked in mild surprise. "Well… that's faster."

For a moment, he tried to think of a name — something clever, something fitting. But his mind came up blank.

"Ehm… shit," he sighed. "Guess I used all my imagination on Surge."

He shrugged, lips curving into a half-smile. "Fine. I'll just call you Healing."

The faint glow dimmed as his wounds finished closing. Ren flexed his hands experimentally, rolling his shoulders until everything felt right again.

He looked toward the battlefield — the other examinees still scrambling, fighting, shouting as they hunted down what few robots remained.

Ren smirked, electricity flickering faintly across his shoulders. "I think I've let you guys get enough points already…"

And then — boom.

A white flash tore across the streets again as Ren shot forward, faster than before, a streak of kinetic light ripping through the mock city.

...

In the monitoring room, silence reigned for a moment before one of the Pro Heroes finally spoke.

"He can even heal?" someone blurted out, disbelief lacing every word.

Snipe leaned forward, hat tilting as he stared at the screen. "What kinda Quirk does this kid have? He's fast, hits like a truck, throws lightning, and heals himself?"

"A great Quirk, I'd have to say," Principal Nezu said with a calm smile, tail flicking as his tiny paws folded neatly.

All Might didn't say a word. He just stood there, watching the monitor with a proud, glowing grin.

That's my boy, he thought.

But then—

"Wait—look at Zone C!" one of the staff shouted.

Every hero turned. On the screen, a student was frozen in terror, staring up at a colossal Zero-Pointer about to crush her.

"Quick, deactivate that thing—!" Midnight began, her voice sharp.

But Aizawa lifted a hand. "No need," he said, eyes narrowing. "Someone's already moving."

The cameras zoomed in.

A boy with messy green hair in a cyan tracksuit was sprinting forward at full speed, eyes burning with determination.

"Young Midoriya?!" All Might's heart lurched. You'll hurt yourself!

Midoriya jumped — soaring into the air with explosive power.

Meanwhile, across the battlefield, Ren stood atop a shattered rooftop, dust still swirling around him. The remains of another two-pointer sparked behind him.

"With this, I should have more than three hundred points," he said, exhaling slowly. "That should be enough for first, right?"

He cracked his neck lightly. "Guess I can rest a bit... not that I really need it."

Then his eyes flicked upward, to the horizon.

"Let's see what Midoriya's up to."

He charged his legs with every ounce of kinetic and electric energy he could muster — and launched himself skyward.

The shockwave rippled through the fake city, shattering a few loose windows below.

Higher and higher he went, until he'd surpassed even the altitude of his previous Impact Dive.

Lightning shimmered faintly across his body as he scanned the multiple zones below.

"I really need some vision enhancement Quirks…" Ren muttered. "Can't see shi—oh."

He froze.

There — in another sector — Midoriya was facing down a Zero-Pointer several stories tall.

Ren squinted. "What should I wear at his funeral?" he deadpanned.

But then, Midoriya leaped.

His fist blazed — and smashed straight through the Zero-Pointer's massive head. The entire thing went up in a thunderous explosion of metal and smoke.

Ren's jaw slackened slightly as the force wave rippled past him.

"Damn," he muttered as he began to fall back toward the city. "That was stronger than my Impact Dive."

He smiled as the wind rushed past his ears.

"One For All's really strong, huh? Didn't think Midoriya could actually pull it off."

As he plummeted, he closed his eyes briefly and chuckled.

"Good job, Deku."

To be continued...
