Nathan froze in the doorway. He felt a cold sweat break out across his skin. Zane stopped behind him, nearly stumbling as he lowered Ray to the floor.
Across the room, Eli and Gabriel stood alert, their bodies tense. Behind them, Edson was curled into a ball on the floor, his shoulders shaking.
Leo looked at Nathan. His face showed no anger. He did not look surprised to see his brother covered in dust and sweat, or to see Ray behind Zane. Instead, Leo smiled. It was a small, polite smile that did not reach his eyes.
He turned his gaze toward Ray.
Ray's eyes went wide. The moment he saw Leo, he began to struggle. His hands were still handcuffed behind his back, making it impossible for him to balance. He tried to scramble away from Zane, his legs kicking out wildly.
He tripped over his own feet and hit the carpet hard. He groaned and tried to push himself up with his shoulders, his face twisted in pure terror. "NO! PLEASE LEO! LET ME GO!!"
