Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 The Newcomer to the Clinic

"Nannan, go to the pharmacy and buy three ounces of evergreen cordyceps, five ounces of red maple leaves, and four ounces of earthworm fruit."

Huo Yuhao dealt with the customer requesting medicine, instructing Jiang Nannan to buy some yang-tonifying herbs to replenish qi and blood.

Half a month had passed since he successfully cured her mother's illness.

When her mother was discharged from the hospital, she almost knelt before him with Jiang Nannan, saying she had never felt so relaxed about living.

But then again, with that parasitic heart, it would be strange if life were easy.

Huo Yuhao, as usual, charged the mother and daughter three silver soul coins for the surgery and one gold soul coin for the herbs.

However, Jiang Nannan felt Huo Yuhao was charging too little and insisted on giving him all her savings.

Huo Yuhao refused. On one hand, he had already obtained a large amount of genetic information from them; on the other hand, it was questionable whether their combined wealth even reached fifty gold soul coins.

Taking it wouldn't be of any use, but Jiang Nannan was determined to repay this kindness.

There was really no other way, but then he thought about it. The clinic's reputation had been growing rapidly lately, and Huo Yuhao was finding it difficult to manage on his own.

So, he decided to have her come and help out at the clinic, assisting him while he treated patients. She

could also act as a "soul power recharger" when encountering particularly difficult problems. They

could also chat occasionally, making the monotonous clinic life less dull, and she could share some of the knowledge she had learned at Shrek Academy, enriching her understanding of this world.

Sometimes, looking at the bustling crowd outside and the busy girl beside him, Huo Yuhao would think that this kind of life in another world wasn't so bad.

After Jiang Nannan brought the medicinal herbs, Huo Yuhao mixed them together, ground them into powder, and handed them to the waiting customers.

"Add a little powder when you drink tea or make soup every day; it can effectively replenish your yang energy."

"Don't take more than one or two ounces a day, or you'll get nosebleeds."

After seeing the customers off, the clinic returned to tranquility, with only the gentle sound of the breeze playing on the curtains.

At such times, Huo Yuhao would brew a pot of tea, sipping it while perusing medical texts or the "Complete Guide to Soul Beast Soul Skills" of this world.

This unfamiliar yet fascinating knowledge not only enhanced Huo Yuhao's understanding of this world but also gradually increased his control over the [Understanding] Authority.

He had a premonition that when the [Understanding] Authority reached 5%, it would grant him some new abilities.

Just as Huo Yuhao was leisurely browsing the books, Jiang Nannan approached, carrying a medical book.

During her time at the clinic, Jiang Nannan had begun learning medicine from Huo Yuhao.

She seemed to have developed a liking for the medical profession, which truly surprised Huo Yuhao.

He couldn't help but marvel at how this outsider had finally brought a fresh breeze to this continent.

Huo Yuhao was pleased to see this change; he had always believed that the world's development couldn't be predetermined by fate.

Any situation, with different choices, could lead to different outcomes.

This world was chaotic, full of randomness, and the future was always unknown.

Anyone who tries to plan their destiny and control their future, even a high-ranking god-king, will inevitably be devoured by fate.

Therefore, whenever Jiang Nannan asked Huo Yuhao about medical knowledge, he would always do his best to break it down and feed it to her bit by bit.

He wanted to know if Jiang Nannan would embark on a path of saving lives because of him.

Watching Jiang Nannan diligently studying medical books, Huo Yuhao asked,

"Nannan, when does Shrek Academy start?"

Jiang Nannan tilted her head, her delicate face showing a hint of doubt, and said,

"It starts in forty days, no later than a week."

"Brother Huo, do you have any relatives going to Shrek?"

Huo Yuhao nodded thoughtfully and then said,

"I do know someone who is going to Shrek."

"If you meet a girl named Xiao Xiao at Shrek Academy in the future, please look after her for me."

  "Of course, within your capabilities."

Jiang Nannan silently repeated the name Xiao Xiao in her heart, then nodded firmly to Huo Yuhao.

"Okay, I'll definitely help look after her if I have the chance."

Huo Yuhao glanced outside the door; the last rays of the sun were completely shrouded in darkness. He said to Jiang Nannan,

  "Nothing much today."

"It's getting late. You can go home and take care of your mother."

Jiang Nannan hesitated for a moment before saying,

"Well then, Brother Huo, I'll be leaving now."

"Oh, by the way, can I take this medical book back to borrow?"

  "I definitely won't lose it!"

Huo Yuhao waved his hand gently and said to her, "Take it. It's not some rare medical book; it's just something worth ten silver soul coins. Take your time reading it."

Jiang Nannan happily hugged the medical book and left the clinic, walking along the main road leading to the West District.

Watching Jiang Nannan leave, Huo Yuhao muttered to himself, "Forty days."

"I must go to the Star Dou Great Forest a month from now, regardless of whether I've broken through to level ten soul power."

"My two cheat codes haven't arrived yet."

Huo Yuhao got up, walked to the door, glanced at the bright moonlight, closed the shop door, and began his meditation practice for the night in his bedroom on the second floor.

The bright moonlight pierced the darkness of the night like a silver sword, its cold light adding to the desolate silence.

Jiang Nannan walked home. The roads in the West District were complex, and the houses were poorly planned, resulting in many narrow alleys.

Perhaps the underdeveloped economy of the West District was related to this lack of planning.

At night, the roads in the West District were almost deserted; the deep alleys were always breeding grounds for filth and depravity.

It was only because Jiang Nannan was strong enough that she wasn't afraid of such things. After all

, with the strength of a Soul Master approaching that of a Soul Grandmaster, coupled with her Shrek Academy background, she was considered a powerful figure in Xuanfeng City.

Just as Jiang Nannan passed through one of the alleys, a man's voice suddenly came from within.

"Miss Jiang Nannan, I want to make a deal with you."

Jiang Nannan stopped, her eyes wary, her soul skill already prepared. She knew exactly what kind of people roamed the alleys of the West District at night.

"Come out and talk. I don't do business with people who hide in the shadows."

The man chuckled, slowly emerging from the darkness, the silvery moonlight scattering across his face.

It was Chen Wen, the one who had overheard Jiang Nannan and Xu Wei's conversation a while ago.

He looked at Jiang Nannan confidently and said,

"This is a deal you absolutely won't refuse."

"I heard your mother has a heart condition that no one can cure, and she needs the Xuanwu Divine Pill."

"And I happen to have the Xuanwu Divine Pill here."

"But you need to promise me one thing."

Jiang Nannan looked at the confident man with a strange expression and said,

"My mother's health problem has already been solved; I no longer need the Xuanwu Divine Pill."

  "Goodbye!"

With that, Jiang Nannan left without even glancing at him. She felt this man was definitely not a decent person.
