Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 "A martial soul of the same type as mine?"

Hearing Jiang Nannan's decisive refusal, Chen Wen's expression shifted between anger and uncertainty.

After returning to the Xuanming Sect and reporting the situation to the sect leader, he received permission to use a Xuanwu Divine Pill in exchange for the voluntary offering of a stunningly beautiful girl.

However, due to the time spent traveling to and from Xuanfeng City, he discovered that the girl's mother's illness had been cured.

Chen Wen felt like a clown.

He didn't have time to think about those other things; now Chen Wen realized a serious problem.

There was only one week left until the Second Young Master's martial soul evolution ceremony.

He had confidently promised the sect leader that he would find a beautiful girl with top-notch looks and temperament for the Second Young Master as a key part of the ceremony.

When he found Jiang Nannan at the clinic, he was immediately awestruck; she perfectly met all the requirements.

Moreover, her mother had an incurable disease, and Chen Wen immediately opened champagne. He

felt everything was in the bag.

He had already begun to fantasize about the Second Young Master's martial soul evolving into the Xuanwu Shield, being appointed as the young sect leader, and him becoming a manager of the sect,

  completely shedding his servant status.

He used to doubt that a cooked duck could fly away, but now he did.

The duck really did fly away.

Chen Wen panicked, suddenly feeling a chill run down his spine.

He had sworn a life-or-death oath before the sect leader; if he couldn't find a suitable woman, the sect leader would definitely kill him.

The current sect leader of the Xuanming Sect was no benevolent person; he was ruthless and merciless, showing no mercy even to a servant like himself.

"Damn it, I shouldn't have boasted!"

"Where am I supposed to find a virgin with the perfect talent, looks, and temperament within a week?"

"Shrek Academy isn't a brothel; there aren't that many students from poor families."

Chen Wen squatted on the ground, his hands covering his head, feeling like he could see his entire future laid out before him.

  "I don't want to die!"

In desperate situations, people often choose to take risks. Chen Wen suddenly looked up, staring intently in the direction Jiang Nannan had left.

  "Heh, sorry."

Then he got up and sped away, heading towards the eastern district of Xuanfeng City.

There gathered many frustrated Soul Masters there, venting their frustrations in the bright lights and revelry.

Among them was a Soul Emperor he knew who spent his days there.

Due to his low innate Soul Power, he had been stuck at level 69 for decades.

Breaking through to level 70 had long been an obsession for him.

Given the Xuanwu Divine Pill as payment, he would undoubtedly make a move, and his target was only a Soul Venerable.

This Soul Emperor's Martial Soul was called the Dream Eater, a spiritual attribute beast Martial Soul.

This Martial Soul could keep all these dealings hidden from the light of day.

  …

That morning, Jiang Nannan, as usual, arrived at Huo Yuhao's clinic like a gentle breeze.

  She carried a breakfast.

"Brother Huo, this is breakfast my mother prepared for you."

The girl slightly raised the breakfast in her hand, a bright smile on her face, like a kitten waiting for praise.

Huo Yuhao's lips curled up, and he took the breakfast from her hand, saying,

  "Thank you, Nannan."

The breakfast wasn't luxurious—just a few buns and an egg—but he could feel the thoughtfulness in her gesture.

  "What's the schedule for today?"

Huo Yuhao asked after a moment's thought while eating breakfast. "There will be a competition at the Great Soul Arena today, and I expect quite a few people will get injured. We'll be busy afterwards."

Sure enough, there were an unusually large number of Soul Masters coming to the clinic for treatment today.

Many of the people were covered in blood and gore, their clothes stuck to their flesh, making cleaning their wounds a huge hassle.

Fortunately, Jiang Nannan was quick and agile, able to clean these wounds rapidly.

Huo Yuhao continuously used the Reversal Technique to treat these Soul Masters.

For a while, the clinic was filled with screams like pigs being slaughtered.

For these Soul Masters, the anesthetic had no effect whatsoever; they were forced to clearly feel the pain brought on by the writhing of their flesh.

Surprisingly, these Soul Masters seemed to enjoy it. In their view, pain was normal; how could such a powerful healing Soul Skill not come at a price?

They amplified the sensations throughout their bodies caused by the surge of physical energy as the cost of the treatment.

Huo Yuhao didn't bother to explain; it was fine as a cost.

  "It hurts so much!"

A Soul Master with the Fiery Bull Martial Soul grimaced, trembling as he gave Huo Yuhao a thumbs up.

"Master, your healing soul skills are truly impressive."

"It'll be fine in a moment. I have a match tomorrow anyway."

Huo Yuhao chuckled. "Heh, another match?"

"Haven't you had enough of that yet? This is your third time this week."

The soul master with the Blazing Bull spirit smiled sheepishly. "That's just how soul masters are—either bleeding or on their way to bleeding."

"Soul masters without a background always have clothes that reek of blood."

"Master, I'll be leaving now. I need to study tomorrow's opponents."

Huo Yuhao shook his head. He didn't quite understand these soul masters' passion for battle. He turned to the others and cast a reversal spell.

Whether in his past life or now, Huo Yuhao didn't actually like fighting, but if a battle was unavoidable,

he firmly believed he would be the one to stand until the end.

He would crush all enemies in his path at all costs.

After all the wounded in the clinic had left, Huo Yuhao pulled back the curtain to let the bloodstains dissipate.

Jiang Nannan was cleaning up in the back, carefully wiping away the bloodstains on the floor with alcohol.

After breathing in some fresh air, Huo Yuhao was about to turn around to help Jiang Nannan clean up the remaining blood when his mental energy suddenly surged.

Being intimately familiar with mental energy, he instantly realized someone was using it to sense his clinic.

Huo Yuhao silently activated his spiritual eyes, only to discover that the target of this mental energy wasn't him, but Jiang Nannan behind him.

  "The opponent is very strong."

Judging from the range of the mental energy, the opponent's cultivation level was very high.

Compared to those evil soul masters, this was at least a Soul Emperor.

Huo Yuhao's expression darkened; he hadn't expected trouble to come so soon, and the target was someone close to him.

  This undoubtedly touched a nerve.

He drew the curtains back up, and Huo Yuhao, with his usual amiable smile, joined Jiang Nannan in cleaning up the bloodstains.

The night grew darker, and the mental energy lingering around the clinic remained firmly locked onto Jiang Nannan.

Only after Jiang Nannan finished her work for the day and left the clinic did the mental energy disappear from the area.

Huo Yuhao silently appeared on the roof of the clinic, watching Jiang Nannan's departing figure. His faceless mask transformed into a vortex-shaped mask, revealing only his right eye.

"A martial soul of the same type as mine?"

  "Interesting."

"Then let's see who has the better use of mental power."

With that, a dark figure moved swiftly across the roof beams of the street, locking onto Jiang Nannan's surroundings.
