Chapter 5 - Chapter 5:After a long day

Hearing those words, Tang Jingyi's expression eased with relief.

'It seemed her daughter-in-law had finally grown sensible.

Come to think of it, how could she hold anything against a girl who only eighteen? She was just a child, after all.'

"Sigh… For a bride, her wedding night is such an important occasion. We can understand, Xiao Ran.

If you have any complaints, just let them out — don't hide them in your heart,we'll definitely help you.

Even though Chen Zeyan was unwilling to the marriage, he shouldn't have done such a thindon"

Second Madam Tang interjected softly, a faint smile playing on her lips.

'These two sister-in-laws, really had gone too far.'

Tang Jingyi furrowed her brow, a faint sign of displeasure crossed her face.

"Enough all of you." Tang Jingyi interjected gently yet firmly.

"First Madam Tang, Second Madam Tang, this is but a matter between the youngersters,

Ah Ze and Xiao Ran are just got married,

they have plenty of time to get to know each other.

Don't assume unnecessary things, if Ah Ze were truly unwilling, do you think anyone could really force him.

We as a elders, need not act like busybodies."

'First and second madams of the Tang family now knew they'd messed up.

Their always amiable sister-in-law,who didn't bother argue with them, finally showed her claws— it seemed they'd finally touched her bottom line. They shouldn't have brought up Chen Zeyan.'

"You're right, sister-in-law. It's our fault for being meddlesome — we were just worried, that's all,"

Second Madam said nervously, as if trying to smooth things over.

"Y-yeah, yeah, that's right!" First Madam jumped in quickly, flashing an awkward smile.

Seeing all this Liu Yiran curled her lips inwardly.

Wow… These bullies from her previous life looked more like clowns now, jumping around foolishly. It seems they finally met there match.

Tang Jingyi's face finally softened, her gentle smile returning.

"It's alright, let the children handle their own affairs. We should maintain our composure."

She raised her hand gracefully.

"Come, ladies, let us enjoy some Longjing tea — its delicate aroma brings far more peace than petty quarrels."

The madams present there readily expressed their agreement, and continued sipping their tea as exchanging pleasantries.

First and second Madam Tang gritted their teeth and forced out a smile.

'Damn Tang Jingyi – she didn't leave them any face. '

'Liu Yiran found this scene quite amusing — her mother-in-law was such a badass.

Yeah, she'd always been like this, never tolerating a single speck in her eyes.Chen Zeyan is her only child after all.

She also take a sip from the aromatic tea and quietly listened to the snippets of gossip shared by the madams.

Liu Yiran finally returned to her room, a sense of relief settled over her.

The long ceremony had come to an end,Not only had she managed to leave a good impression on the distinguished guests, but she had also earned a favorable glance from Tang Jingyi.

In her previous life, thanks to her own stupidity, this mother-in-law of her had made her life really difficult.

And all she ever did was complain to Old Madam Chen, which only made her already delicate relationship with her mother-in-law even more strained.

Sigh....

Why she was so foolish....

The room before her was the bridal chamber she shared with Chen Zeyan—before they moved into his new apartment, where, they lived in separate rooms and become completely out of sight.

But now it seems they still have to share same room..

She didn't want to think about it now.

Her family still there, she just wanted to see her parents and sister.

But she couldn't; she'd just gotten married, and she had to wait at least three days before she could visit her parents' place.

But she could call home. Absolutely yes.*(^o^)/*

With a tiny squeal of joy, she grabbed her pink-cased phone and poked her mom's contact.

It barely rang once before—knock knock!—someone came knocking the door.

She assumed it was a servant and was just about to answer, but before she could, the door opened—and Chen Zeyan walked in.

Her words caught in her throat. The air in the room felt suddenly heavy.

He looked composed as always, yet his presence alone made her heartbeat stumble.

For a moment, neither of them spoke—just the faint sound of their breaths filled the stillness.

She was still lost in her thoughts when the line clicked.

"Yiyi?" her mother's gentle voice came through, threaded with quiet joy.

The call pulled her back to reality.

"Mom..."

Liu Yiran said blinked and peeked at Chen Zeyan.

He gave a short nod and walked further inside to the study. The faint scent of his cologne mixed with the fragrance of fresh flowers in the room.

Liu Yiran let out a sigh, she really wasn't in the mood to deal with Chen Zeyan right now .

She held onto the phone and kept chatting with her mother instead, her voice trembled slightly.

"Mom, I... I missed you."

"Yiyi, what happened? Are you alright? Is everything okay? did anyone bully you? "

her mother's voice came through, tight with worry.

"No, Mom… I'm okay. I just… I just missed you and Dad and... YanYan. "

Her nose stung, and tears threatened to fall, but she forced them back.

The last thing she wanted was to make her mother worry.

"Ayoo, silly child. Only one day has passed—why are you acting like we're worlds apart?"

Gu Wanrou's teasing carried a faint smile, but warmth lingered in her voice.

"Do you know? if Mom hadn't stopped your Dad, he would've barged in there yesterday!"

Hearing this, Yiran couldn't help but laugh, a warm feeling blooming in her chest.

Her father, the ever-calm and gentle renowned professor,

but he always turned into a fierce tiger whenever it involved his daughters.

In her previous life, because of her…

Yiran's eyes welled up again, she quickly hide it and continued.

"Mom, where are Dad and Yanyan? Are they not there? I can't hear them at all."

Gu Wanrou chuckled softly and said,

"Your dad went to the college, and Yanyan is studying—her exams are coming up.

Wait, I'll call her for you."

"No need, let her study."Yiran quickly said, "I'll call her next time. But Mom… today is Sunday. Why did Dad still go to the college?"

"He said he needed to go check his research materials."

With a sigh Gu Wanrou continued, "You know your dad—once it's about his research, he completely forgets what day and time it is."

Yha… her dad is a physicist, lost in his condensed matter physics and nanotech world—

always staring at tiny materials like they're more interesting than people.

"Sigh… let him be. Yiyi, tell me—did the tea ceremony go well?"

Gu Wanrou asked with a hint of worry in her voice.

"Yes, Mom, everything went perfectly.

Grandma gave me a jade bracelet, and my mother-in-law gifted me a jade pendant."

Yiran said, trying to ease her mother's worry.

"That's good," Gu Wanrou murmured.

"Yiyi, please look after yourself. If you ever feel hurt or wronged, just come home. Your parents will take care of everything for you, understand?."

Her parents were always like this— no matter what happewer, they were always there for her,

Her nose once again turned sour, tears welling up in her eyes. "Yes, Mom, I understand."

After hanging up, Liu Yiran gently brushed away the tears at her lashes.

She turned, only to see Chen Zeyan leaning against the doorway of the study, hands in his pockets, watching her with an unreadable expression.

It startled her. For a moment, she couldn't find her voice—

then, suddenly, she saw him start walking toward her.

Chen Zeyan stood in front of her, his gaze lingering for a moment, before extending his hand, which held some papers.

She started at him, confused and momentarily speechless

What… is this? Divorce papers? Could he really be planning to divorce her—right after their wedding? this... never happened in her previous life...
