Chapter 70 - Baseline Testing

"Tang San's understanding of a team is the kind where a single superhero leads a group of support members to roam the world.

Under this mindset, perhaps in ordinary times there's no problem.

But once we encounter some troublesome issue, Tang San will very likely still choose to charge forward alone, because he believes that in doing so he is protecting us.

But this is absolutely not the kind of team we want. This does not show true acknowledgment of the strength of his teammates.

Since we are a team, there is no reason for one person to face danger alone.

The true core is not leaving teammates behind while you go forward alone, but gathering everyone's strength and leading everyone together.

If Tang San cannot understand this himself, then his approach will forever be individual heroism, not teamwork, and he will never truly integrate into the group."

Xiao Wu was convinced by Ao Sichen's words.Xiao Wu was not stupid—she just didn't like using her brain too much, and she had lost her calm because this matter involved Tang San.

Thinking back carefully now, Xiao Wu realized Ao Sichen wasn't wrong.Tang San's upbringing shaped his personality of relying on himself for everything.

At the Primary Soul Master Academy, Tang San's strength surpassed the entire academy. He could resolve anything with his own power; a team simply wasn't necessary.

But now Tang San was at Shrek Academy, where every person had considerable strength.Tang San might still be among the top, but he no longer had an overwhelming advantage.

On the platform of Shrek Academy, Tang San would encounter many problems his personal strength alone could not solve. He needed coordination with others instead of brute-forcing things alone.

Under such circumstances, Xiao Wu could only hope Tang San would quickly realize the issue in his mindset and adjust his current attitude.

The students who neither saw the new soul tools nor understood the uniqueness of soul-forged metal could only return the items to Ao Sichen and dejectedly begin eating lunch.

In their minds, the afternoon would still be another teacher-less afternoon. There was no need to rush through lunch or hurry to rest.

But unlike them, Ao Sichen quickly finished his lunch as usual, then immediately returned to his dormitory to take a nap.

Others didn't know, but Ao Sichen did.Cohen had informed him that the teachers at the training base had completed their preparations and were doing final touch-ups.This meant they would definitely return this afternoon.

Training was about to begin—if he didn't rest now, then when?

Just thinking about that one-kilometer obstacle course, or the upgraded trap-filled corridor, made Ao Sichen's legs tremble.

At 2 p.m., the bell signaling assembly rang unexpectedly.

Ao Sichen, who was practicing the Five-Animal Exercises on the training field as usual, turned to look toward the center of the field and saw all the teachers already present.

He silently observed a three-second moment of mourning for Oscar and Ma Hongjun, who were still lying in bed.Without daring to delay, Ao Sichen climbed down from the plum-blossom stakes, ran over to the teachers, saluted, and stood properly.

One minute later, Tang San, Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing—who had been working diligently in the soul tool crafting area—arrived running, with Dai Mubai, who had been forced to tag along.

Ao Sichen sharply noticed that when Dai Mubai and the others saw all the teachers present, they froze for a moment before lining up;

As for Tang San, Ao Sichen caught the clear excitement on his face during that instant before Tang San, half a beat slower than the others, found his place.

Seeing Tang San deliberately separate himself from everyone else, Ao Sichen raised an eyebrow slightly and then looked toward the teachers' expressions.

As expected—

The teachers all had subtle reactions, clearly noting the sense of separation between Tang San and the rest of the students. What approach the teachers would take to handle this… Ao Sichen's eyes flashed with thought.

Another three minutes passed before Oscar and Ma Hongjun were finally seen rushing from the dormitory side with their speed-enhancing soul tools triggered.

Ao Sichen glanced at Flender. As expected, the dean—who hated waiting the most—already had a darkening face.

Looking again at Oscar and Ma Hongjun, who had stopped running—Their whole faces read the words: "We're finished."

Sure enough, Flender did not give them the chance to join the lineup. Instead, he said directly:

"Three times gravity. Five laps. Dinner canceled."Then he didn't look at them again.

"One hundred kilometers. Wish you luck. Hopefully you two won't die on the training grounds tomorrow."

Ao Sichen sent his thoughts through the spiritual link to Oscar, who had already resigned himself and turned around to run toward the village outskirts, earning himself a dramatic eye roll.

With the punishment settled, Flender moved on to the main matters:

"Alright, little monsters, your days of leisure are over. The training camp begins now.

Before that, let me introduce a new teacher. You may call him 'Grandmaster.' He is my old friend and also Tang San's teacher.

All training items during your training camp will be arranged by the Grandmaster. The academy's remaining teachers will only assist with instruction."

Flender pulled the Grandmaster a step forward so the students could see him clearly.

After the introduction, the Grandmaster naturally continued:

"To ensure your training has better effect, we have specially constructed a training base for you.

Now, I need to know each of your real combat abilities and physical condition. So next, I will have you conduct match battles.

Because the new students have not yet fully adapted to using soul tools, the old students are temporarily forbidden from using soul tools.

Similarly, Tang San — your special weapons are also not allowed.Understand?"

"Understood."

"Good. First match: Dai Mubai versus Tang San.You have one minute to prepare. Begin."

As the Grandmaster finished speaking, the others automatically cleared the space for a battlefield.Dai Mubai and Tang San did not hesitate and walked directly to the open area of the field, standing five meters apart, waiting for the final command.

Ao Sichen didn't know if it was just his imagination—But when the Grandmaster announced that Tang San would be Dai Mubai's opponent, Dai Mubai's aura suddenly became much sharper.

"This aura of absolute determination… Is Boss Dai trying to correct Tang San's mindset after noticing his issues?

Or does he simply feel that Tang San is looking down on everyone else and wants to teach him a lesson?"

Ao Sichen tilted his head, but couldn't find the answer.

But he didn't dwell on it.Dai Mubai's motive didn't matter—The result of the battle was what counted.Because Dai Mubai versus Tang San would definitely be a splendid, evenly matched fight.

Although Dai Mubai's soul power level now wasn't much higher than the Dai Mubai in Ao Sichen's memories—

Even without soul tools, Dai Mubai had still made considerable progress compared to the Dai Mubai of the original timeline.

On one hand, Ao Sichen constantly pressured Dai Mubai at Shrek Academy, giving him strong motivation to advance, never daring to relax even slightly;

On the other hand, Dai Mubai had greatly improved in his use of soul skills due to Ao Sichen's influence.

In particular, his second soul skill, White Tiger Fierce Light Wave, had undergone many modifications.

The original White Tiger Fierce Light Wave was a ball of light that combined sharpness, impact, and explosion. Its power was decent, but this "all-in-one" nature prevented any single attribute from reaching its fullest potential.

Sometimes, even when the total damage exceeded the required amount, it still failed to achieve the desired result.

Now, Dai Mubai had attempted to develop three separate versions of White Tiger Fierce Light Wave—Separating sharpness, impact, and explosion into distinct forms, each achieving maximum power in its own attribute.

In this way, Dai Mubai essentially gained three additional attack methods, greatly compensating for his previous shortcomings as a power-attack battle soul master whose offense wasn't strong enough.
