Chapter 71 - Dai Mubai vs Tang San (Part 1)

For Tang San right now, wanting to defeat Dai Mubai was not a simple matter. In fact, Tang San capsizing was the far more likely outcome.

After all, Ao Siqin was certain that this time Dai Mubai would go all out, without any carelessness, complacency, or mercy.

There was no time for Ao Siqin to continue letting his thoughts drift; the Grandmaster's order signaled the official start of this spar.

Dai Mubai's fighting method was very easy to predict: Spirit Avatar, then activating his first soul skill White Tiger Barrier while charging forward. He was a pure melee–type soul master—close-combat was his true love.

However, since he couldn't use soul tools, Dai Mubai, relying solely on the speed provided by his martial soul, simply couldn't close the distance instantly.

This gave Tang San sufficient reaction time. Yet he didn't choose to retreat immediately to widen the distance. Instead, he activated his first soul ring, releasing a swarm of Blue Silver Grass to coil toward Dai Mubai.

In Tang San's thinking, Dai Mubai's ability to resist his Blue Silver Grass's control previously was largely due to the power of the soul tool barrier.

Now that Dai Mubai couldn't use soul tools, his first soul skill should work like it had when they first met—easily binding Dai Mubai.

This way, he could both restrict Dai Mubai's movements and disrupt his rhythm, while also setting up the spores needed to activate his parasitic soul skill.

But Tang San's plan was immediately broken by Dai Mubai's actions.

Facing the quickly approaching Blue Silver Grass, Dai Mubai showed no panic. He roared, and along with blinding platinum soul power, his first soul ring shone continuously.

The White Tiger Barrier, instead of clinging tightly to Dai Mubai's body like before, spun rapidly and detached from his body, forming a complete defensive shield around him.

Put simply—Dai Mubai used his first soul skill to mimic the effect of a soul tool barrier.

The rapidly spinning White Tiger Barrier easily shook off the incoming Blue Silver Grass. Neither of Tang San's intended objectives was achieved.

And since he hadn't sprinkled any parasitic spores onto Dai Mubai, Tang San couldn't use his second soul skill at all—he could only continue using his first.

But Tang San no longer had the luxury to consider any of this. His strategy had failed, and Dai Mubai had already closed in on him.

With tiger claws extended, Dai Mubai held nothing back. His heavy, forceful tiger palm struck toward Tang San without hesitation.

Unable to retreat in time, Tang San could only rely on Jade Hands combined with the finesse of Controlling Crane, Capturing Dragon to accept Dai Mubai's first round of attacks head-on.

Only after barely catching an opening in Dai Mubai's assault did Tang San use Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track to retreat in a drifting motion.

But getting rid of Dai Mubai in close combat was not that easy. Dai Mubai immediately stepped forward, matching Tang San's retreat speed.

This meant that during his retreat, Tang San had to constantly use Jade Hands and Controlling Crane, Capturing Dragon to block Dai Mubai's attacks, unable to pull away quickly.

Of course, Tang San's abilities did not stop there. The moment he fell into a disadvantage, he began searching for an opportunity to release his third soul skill. As long as the third soul skill could control Dai Mubai, the situation would flip instantly.

In this battle, if Tang San wanted to win, he only had two options from start to finish:

Either he immobilized Dai Mubai through control—

Or he made Dai Mubai lose combat ability through poison.

In fact, when it came to poison, Tang San's Eight Spider Lances were his true offensive weapon. As long as the Eight Spider Lances pierced Dai Mubai even once, this fight would essentially be over.

But Tang San didn't want to use that deadly toxin inherited from the Human-Faced Demon Spider on Dai Mubai.

He isolated himself from the team only because he felt unworthy of being part of it.

It was not that he didn't want to integrate into the group, nor did he have any dissatisfaction with the Shrek Academy students before him.

These classmates had searched for him overnight in the Star Dou Forest after losing contact with him, and had continued guarding him. What dissatisfaction could he possibly have?

Tang San absolutely wanted these people to become his teammates. Therefore, unless necessary, he did not want to use the Eight Spider Lances on Dai Mubai today, lest he cause some irreparable harm.

But reality often does not follow people's desires.

On the battlefield, Tang San still looked extremely battered—retreating clumsily while entangled with Dai Mubai. There were two reasons for this situation:

First, Dai Mubai had already rushed up to him; Tang San's own speed was not enough to shake him off.

Second, after realizing he couldn't control Dai Mubai first, this was the strategy Tang San quickly came up with.

Normally, a person's focus could only handle one task at a time. It was difficult to perfectly manage two simultaneously.

Tang San hoped that while Dai Mubai was relentlessly chasing him, he would relax his defenses against the Blue Silver Grass.

Even if Dai Mubai didn't consciously drop his guard, could a technique requiring such control precision really maintain perfection while chasing?

As long as Dai Mubai's White Tiger Barrier showed even the slightest flaw, Tang San was confident he could sprinkle spores on him and activate his second soul skill.

Once Parasitic was activated, Dai Mubai would need time to break free—

Maybe only one second, but Tang San was certain that with that one second, he could wrap Dai Mubai up like a zongzi with Blue Silver Grass.

Then Tang San would have enough time to pull away and activate his third soul skill to fully control Dai Mubai.

Under Tang San's deliberate pacing, this chase-and-retreat scenario continued for five minutes.

But only five minutes. Tang San's retreat pattern had already been grasped by Dai Mubai, and at this moment, Tang San had been struck head-on by Dai Mubai's tiger palm three times in a row.

With his martial soul lacking strong defensive capability, Tang San felt he could barely withstand it anymore.

And since Dai Mubai's control of the White Tiger Barrier shield had shown no flaw, Tang San had no choice but to release his Eight Spider Lances.

Seeing Tang San preparing to release the Eight Spider Lances, Dai Mubai had no choice but to temporarily halt his pursuit.

Because he really couldn't be sure whether his White Tiger Barrier alone could block the Eight Spider Lances.

This was a battle he absolutely had to win. Dai Mubai would not allow any unstable variables in his fight, so he strengthened his defense.

Without hesitation, Dai Mubai ignited his thousand-year third soul ring.

After White Tiger Vajra Transformation activated, Dai Mubai's entire body bulked up, his combat strength increased across the board, and his resistance to poison greatly improved.

But—contrary to Dai Mubai's expectations—Tang San had no intention of attacking him directly with the Eight Spider Lances.

Even while the Eight Spider Lances were still emerging, Tang San activated his third soul ring. By the time the Eight Spider Lances fully extended, his third soul skill had already been condensed.

A cluster of green light was thrown upward by Tang San toward the position above Dai Mubai's head. Meanwhile, he stabbed the Eight Spider Lances into the ground, all eight limbs working together to launch him twenty meters away, fully avoiding the third soul skill's area of effect.

When Dai Mubai completed White Tiger Vajra Transformation and Tang San landed, the green light Tang San had thrown suddenly expanded into a massive three-meter-wide spiderweb made of Blue Silver Grass, falling over Dai Mubai's head.

Fortunately, Dai Mubai's battle instincts were not a joke. The moment he noticed Tang San's third soul ring light up, he became alert.

Seeing Tang San throw the soul skill not while advancing but while leaping back, Dai Mubai immediately realized that the soul skill above his head must cover a large area—and likely carried powerful poison.

As the giant web rapidly descended over him, countless response methods flashed through Dai Mubai's mind in an instant.
