A figure cloaked in greed and arrogance strode swiftly through the empty streets, his aura cold and oppressive—the Mo Family's Great Elder, Mo Cheng. His sharp gaze landed upon a humble, closed shop. Without hesitation, he pushed open the door and stepped inside.
Inside the shop, Hai Bodong, already on edge after sensing the presence of an unfamiliar Dou Ling–level expert barging into his territory, rose from his seat in the corridor. His face darkened.
'A stranger of this level dares to intrude into my shop at this time? Definitely not here for good.'
A low, derisive chuckle slipped from his lips as killing intent rippled outward. "So bold… You think you can barge into my place?"
He slammed the side door open—
Bang!
Dou Qi surged through his body, the surrounding temperature plummeting. Each step he took made the air tremble under his icy pressure. His expression was as sharp as a blade when he barked, "Get out the way you came in, or I'll make sure you never walk again!"
Mo Cheng had been observing the shop cautiously, but when the white-haired old man appeared—exuding the domineering aura of a battle-hardened powerhouse—his brows furrowed. Though anger flared, he reined it in, reminding himself that meaningless fighting could ruin everything.
Forcing a strained smile, he clasped his hands. "Senior, I sensed an extraordinary fluctuation of energy here, accompanied by a rare alchemical phenomenon. I thought a high-ranking Alchemist might be refining a pill and came to pay my respects—no offense intended."
Hai Bodong sneered, amusement flashing in his eyes. He could see the greed behind the man's polite words as clearly as daylight. "Pay your respects? You think I don't know your type?" He waved dismissively. "Get lost. There's nothing here for you to see."
The mockery made Mo Cheng's face turn dark as ink. His patience snapped. "I am Mo Cheng, an External Deacon of the Yunlan Sect! The Yunlan Sect rules over the entire Jia Ma Empire—strong beyond measure! You dare show me disrespect? Do you not fear the Sect's wrath!?"
Hai Bodong's cold laugh echoed through the room. "Yunlan Sect? Hmph. Even if your Sect Master Yun Shan were here, he'd have to greet me as 'Senior Hai!' You? You're just a dog who got his title by paying tribute every year."
"You—courting death!" Mo Cheng's composure shattered. His Dou Qi flared, killing intent bursting forth.
Then, a weary voice broke through the tension from the corridor behind. "Who's looking for death?"
Both men turned as Liu Xi walked out, rubbing his temples, his expression drowsy from days of refining pills. He glanced lazily at the scene before him.
Seeing him, Hai Bodong's face lit up with relief. "You're finally out! Tell me—how did it go? The pill… it succeeded, right?"
Liu Xi raised a small jade bottle and tilted it lightly. Inside, a single deep violet pill glimmered with mysterious patterns. He smirked and waved it teasingly before putting it away again. With a jerk of his chin toward Mo Cheng, he asked, "And who's this clown?"
Before Hai Bodong could respond, Mo Cheng—infuriated by their casual tone—snarled, "You insolent brat! I am Mo Cheng, External Deacon of the Yunlan Sect! Hand over the pill you just refined, and I'll spare your life. Defy me, and you'll pay dearly!"
But as soon as Liu Xi heard that name—Mo Cheng—his expression turned ice-cold. His gaze sharpened like a drawn blade.
"What did you say your name was?" he asked slowly.
Thinking he had intimidated the youth, Mo Cheng puffed out his chest. "I said, I am Mo Cheng, the Yunlan Sect's Extern—"
He never finished.
Liu Xi's killing intent exploded like a tidal wave. The overwhelming Dou Wang–level pressure slammed into Mo Cheng, freezing him in place. The man's body trembled violently, unable to breathe.
Even Hai Bodong flinched from the sudden burst of power.
Liu Xi's tone was deathly calm. "How did you find this place? Speak. And tell me—did you touch a little girl recently? No… When did you arrive in Desert City?"
'So… it was the Mo Family after all.'
He clenched his fists. During these two days of refining the Breaking Adversity Pill, he had left Qing Lin at home under Ling Shuang's protection, confident she would be safe. If this wretch had dared harm her…
Mo Cheng's mind raced, his body drenched in sweat. "T-this lord, it's a misunderstanding! I… I merely brought my clan juniors for a desert expedition! Yes, an expedition! I offended you by mistake—I'll leave right away!"
He bowed low, stepping backward slowly, not daring to turn his back.
But Liu Xi's expression didn't soften. A faint, chilling smile curved his lips. "You think you can leave?"
He turned briefly to Hai Bodong. "Senior, we'll speak later. I have something to take care of first."
In the blink of an eye, blue flames surged around his arm. His figure vanished—reappearing right before Mo Cheng.
"Too late."
Mo Cheng's eyes widened in terror. Desperation made him lash out. "You dare kill me? Aren't you afraid of Yunlan Sect's revenge!?"
The only answer was Liu Xi's cold sneer. The searing Green Lotus Core Flame erupted, slicing through Mo Cheng's Dou Qi shield like paper. Flesh burned away in an instant. Mo Cheng's scream tore through the night as Liu Xi's hand clamped around his throat. The two vanished in a flash of azure light.
Hai Bodong stood frozen, utterly speechless. 'That old fool came to rob me—but this kid… he's even fiercer!'
Still, his Breaking Adversity Pill was in Liu Xi's hands—his life depended on that. He hurriedly followed.

Moments later, Liu Xi descended from the night sky, dragging the half-dead Mo Cheng by the neck as he landed in front of his courtyard.
'If Qing Lin has so much as a single scratch… I'll erase the Mo Family from the Jia Ma Empire.'
Sensing hidden auras around the courtyard—Dou Zhe and Dou Shi lurking nearby—his eyes flashed with killing intent. With a surge of speed, he vaulted over the wall.
"Qing Lin! I'm back!"
The door opened, and a familiar, cheerful voice answered, "Young Master! You're back!"
The girl ran out with joy, her bright smile lighting the night. Relief washed over Liu Xi. He reached out, ruffling her soft hair.
"You behaved while I was gone, right?"
Qing Lin leaned into his hand, eyes half-closed in contentment. "Yes, Qing Lin was good and stayed home like you said."
Liu Xi smiled, then casually threw the half-charred Mo Cheng onto the ground. "Good girl."
All around, the hidden Mo Family members were struck dumb. Their mighty Great Elder—tossed aside like trash. Mo Ran, the cleverest among them, had already turned tail and fled.
Qing Lin blinked at the motionless man on the ground. "Young Master, who's that?"
"Just a bastard who needed killing," Liu Xi replied indifferently.
"Oh." Qing Lin nodded. If Young Master said he deserved death, then he deserved it.
Mo Cheng, trembling, glared at the two of them with venomous hatred. 'I won't die here… I still have my chance!'
With a mad roar, his right arm transformed into a beastly claw, surging toward Liu Xi. "Die! Mountain-Crushing Arm!"
Liu Xi's eyes turned icy. Seeing that Qing Lin was safe, he no longer bothered to speak. With a flick of his sleeve, the Green Lotus Core Flame burst forth, roaring like a living creature.
It devoured Mo Cheng whole.
His final scream echoed briefly—then both he and his monstrous arm were reduced to ash.
