Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: The Count’s Gambit

As soon as Count Kolsais finished speaking, he spread his arms wide.

The next instant, a thick black fog surged out, swallowing the entire ancient castle.

When the fog cleared, countless grotesque, puppet-like vampires appeared.

"Grrrr..."

They drooled from the corners of their mouths, their crimson eyes gleaming as they moved like zombies, closing in on the three of them.

Natasha and Steve immediately went on high alert.

Their firearms blazed nonstop, mithril bullets tearing through the vampires' heads—but even so, the creatures didn't turn to ash. Instead, they kept roaring and shuffling forward.

"What's going on?" Natasha frowned.

Are they unkillable?

She'd fought vampires before, but she had never seen anything like this.

Lynn glanced at the creatures, then fixed his gaze on Count Kolsais. "You've been dabbling in witchcraft?"

"Witchcraft?" Steve echoed, frowning. "That's real in this world?"

"Uh… I'm not surprised at all!" As she tossed out her electrode pads, Natasha said, "I've seen werewolves, vampires, aliens, even gods—so the existence of witchcraft doesn't exactly shock me."

"Right now, I just want to know—Lynn, how do we completely get rid of these vampires?"

In response, Lynn pulled a small pouch of fluorescent powder from his pocket and scattered it across the floor.

The moment it touched the ground, it formed itself into a glowing hexagram.

"These aren't ordinary vampires," Lynn said. "They're bloodthirsty monsters created through a fusion of witchcraft and vampirism."

"They can't be killed—unless we destroy the one controlling them. Count Kolsais."

"Interesting."

Watching Lynn's movements, Count Kolsais made no move to interrupt or strike.

Instead, he observed calmly, curious to see what kind of power this "Necromancer" possessed—whether he truly had the ability to craft the secret potion that would let vampires walk beneath the sun.

At Lynn's words, Natasha immediately turned and attacked Count Kolsais.

But in the next moment, Count Kolsais simply raised his hand. The bullets halted midair, suspended a dozen centimeters from his body.

An invisible barrier shimmered faintly, blocking every shot.

Count Kolsais gracefully lifted his wine glass and swirled it. "So, Necromancer—what will you do next?"

"You'll find out soon enough."

As Lynn spoke, the hexagram drawn by the fluorescent powder flared with bright light.

The air before him rippled violently, as if some immense power had torn through space itself.

The rift widened—and from it, countless Skeleton Warriors erupted, roaring as they charged forward with bone swords in hand, clashing against the bloodthirsty, zombie-like monsters.

Steve's expression turned to stunned disbelief, while Natasha's eyes widened in shock.

The sight was overwhelming—two kinds of undead creatures locked in a brutal battle.

Even with limbs severed or heads crushed, neither side stopped fighting.

Natasha couldn't help blurting out, "My God… this is a Necromancer's ability? And you told me you were just an ordinary alchemist?"

"Damn it! If you had this kind of power, why didn't you use it during the Battle of New York?"

At Natasha's question, Lynn glanced at the bloodthirsty monsters being held back by his Skeleton Warriors. "Saving the world is your job, superheroes. What's that got to do with a weak, ordinary NYPD officer like me?"

His response left Natasha speechless. She rolled her eyes in exasperation.

Pulling another gun from her thigh holster, she aimed upward and fired.

A rope shot from the barrel and embedded itself firmly in the castle ceiling.

The next second, Natasha grabbed Steve's arm and swung them both up onto one of the beams overhead.

Meanwhile, at the entrance, the mithril bombs detonated, and the ultraviolet devices they had "accidentally" dropped earlier lit up, sealing off the exit completely.

Now perched high above, Natasha and Steve had the perfect vantage point—and Count Kolsais had nowhere left to run.

A slow clap echoed through the hall as Count Kolsais applauded, his crimson eyes fixed on Lynn.

"As expected of the legendary Necromancer. Your methods and abilities are truly remarkable."

"It seems you're the partner I've been searching for."

With that, Kolsais casually tossed a blood-red bead toward Lynn.

Lynn instinctively reached out and caught the blood bead—but before he could react, Count Kolsais appeared before him like a ghost.

The vampire's hand clamped down on Lynn's shoulder, and his sharp fangs lunged straight for Lynn's neck.

But in the next instant, Lynn raised his arm, blocking Kolsais's jaw, and pulled a mithril dagger from his waist, thrusting it toward the Count's heart.

Kolsais dodged at once, and the two clashed violently.

Above them, Steve and Natasha watched the fight unfold. Despite Kolsais's incredible speed, Lynn somehow matched every strike, his reactions just a bit faster.

Steve and Natasha tried to line up their shots to help—but they couldn't get a clear angle.

"Roar!"

A piercing, inhuman scream echoed through the hall. In an instant, dizziness swept over Lynn, Steve, and Natasha.

Using the sonic attack as cover, Count Kolsais seized Lynn and shot upward, flying toward the top of the castle.

"Oh no—he's trying to escape!"

Steve shook off the dizziness and fired, aiming to stop him.

But Kolsais immediately swung Lynn's body in front of him as a shield!!

Crash!

The glass ceiling of the ancient castle shattered, raining down countless shards as Kolsais and Lynn vanished into the underground depths.

Seeing this, Natasha and Steve tensed in alarm.

Lynn had been captured?

That was unacceptable.

Whatever Count Kolsais intended to do with Lynn, they couldn't let their friend fall into a vampire's hands—the consequences would be unimaginable.

Casting a quick glance at the Skeleton Warriors still locked in battle with the bloodthirsty vampires below, Natasha and Steve smashed through a second-floor window and leapt out.

"After them!"

Landing hard, Steve shouted again, "Chase!" and the two sprinted down the underground passage.

Along the way, they noticed that every ultraviolet device they'd set up had been destroyed.

Natasha frowned, realizing that Kolsais must have used some unknown method to disable the equipment the moment they entered the castle.

By the time they reached the outside, Lynn and Kolsais were already gone.

Under the heavy night sky, Natasha and Steve stood grim-faced.

"No matter what, we have to save Lynn," Steve said, gripping his shield tightly, his expression firm.

Beside him, Natasha pulled out her phone and quickly made a call.

The moment the line connected, she spoke sharply. "Tony, we need your satellite—now."
