"I had no other choice."
The words left me more quietly than I intended, my gaze fixed on the ceiling as I lay back against the bed. The events of the day still lingered at the edge of my thoughts, heavy but not overwhelming. I had made a decision, and now I was here. There was no point pretending otherwise.
Nero did not sound convinced.
[So that meant willingly allowing yourself to be captured and taken into an entirely different realm? A realm where no one from the outside can contact you?]

'I needed to.'
[I needed to, she says, as if that explains everything.]
'It does. I needed answers from Lirael, and this was the only way I was going to get them. There was no other path that would have led me here without resistance, without conflict, and more importantly, without her involvement.'
There was a pause, and then his tone shifted slightly.
[Well… you do get points for trusting your intuition.]
