"Door-to-door serbice?"
It was a strange phrase. He thought twice before realizing she meant tutoring.
Mm… tutoring.
Distant memories stirred.
His clinic couldn't run now, but he'd sat the board for nothing otherwise. Or he could tutor a while?
He could handle what needed handling. Med students had to do English and higher math too.
He pulled out his phone. "Let's swap numbers. I'll let you know when I decide."
"Okay!" Reze was excited, but tamped it down. While writing her number, she flushed again. "You can call me anytime! I'm always free!"
Uh… that excited, huh…
Good thing this was the restroom. If the manager heard, her face would go black.
"What were you two doing in there so long? What did you do?"
With three ice creams in her, Angel seemed to have recovered a tiny bit of interest in life. She looked at Su Tang, who was supporting Reze out, and pouted. "She can't even walk."
"Three ice creams can't block your mouth?" Su Tang released Reze and explained: "Her leg went numb."
"Oh." Angel didn't know if she bought it. She raised a hand to the boss. "One more ice cream, please."
"More?" Su Tang came over, helpless. "Did you forget why you came? I'm done here—let's go."
"Mm." A perfunctory reply. Angel had already accepted ice cream number four, stuck out a pink tongue, and gently licked; the tip was dotted with glossy, soft white cream. "So that's what you meant by errands. Then I take back what I said—you're kind of fast."
"…"
This angel looked like an angel, but cut her open and she's black to the core.
No wonder—Angel Devil.
He sighed and pulled out the ace—Makima.
"You don't want Ms. Makima to find out you were slacking on the job, do you?"
Unexpectedly, the name that always worked on Division 4 had no effect.
"Mm. If I lose my use, I'll be treated as a devil." Angel bit a big mouthful, eyes squinting in pleasure. "But rather than work, better to die."
Uh.
Peak slacker.
"Don't look at me like that. Being alive is exhausting." Angel switched from licking to big chomps. "Work is exhausting. Even eating ice cream is exhausting. Halfway through and I lose steam…"
"Right, eating consumes energy. Mm, I don't want to work anymore today."
Chomps turned to enthusiastic devouring.
Propping his chin, Su Tang considered leaving first.
"Burp. Done." Angel licked the last smear from the paper sleeve, cast a reluctant look at the soft-serve machine, and rose. "Forget it. It's not your money. I won't have more. Let's go."
She'd already taken the lead to the door.
He really couldn't understand devil logic.
He turned to Reze and said, embarrassed, "I didn't expect her to eat that much. Sorry to stick you with the bill. Next time, my treat."
"Eh? We're moving to the date stage?!"
Hands on her flushed cheeks, the metal ring at her neck chimed pleasantly.
"No… just a simple meal…" Su Tang felt he'd been infected by Angel—tired.
"Okay. And the door-to-door service—once you've decided, remember to call me."
Reze smiled.
That was fine.
He nodded, glanced at her violet fringe, and was about to go when he remembered something. He turned back. "Be careful for a while. Head straight home after work."
If the "Guinea Pigs" made a move, they wouldn't spare bystanders.
Caution never hurts.
"Okay—teacher's full concern, I'll accept it."
She waved, smiling.
His expression turned wry as he turned away. Ever since he gave her the flower, had this violet-haired girl gotten… bolder? More open?
Ding-a-ling.
Watching him push the door and go, Reze lifted the arm he'd supported, brought her nose close, and took a deep breath, cheeks rosy.
"Teacher…"
"Damn!"
Su Tang slapped his thigh.
"What is it?" Angel looked up at the building before them and sighed. "We're already at Public Safety, aren't we? Don't tell me overtime."
"No. I forgot my coffee!" He rubbed his chin. "Is there a Coffee Devil messing with me? Forget it—Reze was treating. Call it an order she placed for herself."
"Coffee Devil… maybe. But there surely isn't an Ice Cream Devil." Angel walked beside him. "And even if there were, it would be very, very weak. Because no one fears ice cream."
"Not necessarily." Su Tang chuckled.
There's a species called "parents." Some of them transfer fear onto manga, games, ice cream…
Angel pouted—unconvinced.
Talking, they reached Makima's office.
"Knock knock knock. Ms. Makima, I brought Su Tang."
"Come in."
The knock wasn't on the door—it was Angel's own sound effect.
He didn't know if this was her weird taste, but in that flat voice it was kind of amusing.
He stepped forward and pushed the door.
Makima's back at the window came into view.
Today she wore the Public Safety uniform again—white shirt, black pants—but this time the shirttail was tucked. It set off her figure and narrow waist perfectly.
Precise and crisp.
She turned at the sound.
Bangs of red shifted slightly as Makima fixed her golden eyes on Su Tang and smiled. "We meet again, Su Tang-kun."
