"I want you to meet James today."
Marcus said over breakfast.
Aria looked up . "I've met James. At your house, remember? He stopped by a few weeks ago."
"I know. But that was brief. He wants to actually sit down with you and have a proper meal. That way, he can get to know the woman who's made me happier than I've been in years." Marcus said as he took her hand. "He's my best friend and his opinion matters to me."
Aria's stomach was already tight from lack of sleep. Vera's call kept replaying in her mind. By Monday. That was tomorrow. Less than twenty-four hours.
"Of course," she said. "I'd like to get to know him better, too."
"Good. Lunch at his club at 1 o'clock." Marcus squeezed her hand. "I know you're tired. But James has been patient about my monopolizing all my time with you. I owe him this."
They spent the morning working on the Renaissance investigation. Aria tried to focus on work, but her mind kept drifting.
