"Why do you need my help?" Marcus asked, and then he added, "Why not go directly to the FBI?"
"Because the FBI is compromised," Richard said, and his voice was tight. "Someone inside is feeding information to the mastermind, and if I go to them, I am dead before I can testify. But you are operating independently now, and you are off the grid. I have been watching. You are the only one the mastermind is not monitoring."
Marcus looked at the others, who had been listening on speaker.
"Two PM," Marcus said. "Central Park Carousel, and if this is a trap, Richard, you will not live long enough to regret it."
"It is not a trap," Richard said. "I am just trying to survive. See you tomorrow."
The call ended.
"It could be legitimate," Viktor said, because his tone was measured. "Richard would definitely be on the hit list. He knows the legal structure of the network, he facilitated transactions for years, and he is a massive liability."
