Chapter 13 - The First Glass

The liquid touched my tongue and the world shattered.

One second I was sitting at the Drowning Table, chalice pressed to my lips, the Duchess watching with that terrible smile. The next I was standing outside a coffee shop on a day I'd replayed in my mind a thousand times, always wishing I could change it.

The memory hit with perfect clarity. I could feel the weight of the gift box in my hands, smell the rain mixing with pavement steam, taste copper on my tongue from where I'd bitten my lip. Every detail was sharp and immediate, more real than the trial chamber had been.

But I was still aware. Still Haven at the table, trapped inside my past self's body, forced to watch and feel and remember everything I'd spent months in the ground trying to forget.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. Mira's voice cut through before I could answer, warning me not to go to Ethan's house tonight. The Blood Moon was rising. Wolves would lose their minds under its light.
