Chapter 596 - Longevity

Inside the highly isolated, sterile laboratory, cold white light poured over the central dissection table. The corpse of the Predator lay there silently, its dark skin and metallic armor glinting with an eerie luster under the lamps. The air was thick with the distinct odor of disinfectant mixed with alien blood—a sweet, metallic tang.

Osiris stood before the main console, his slender fingers sliding rapidly across the light screen to call up real-time data. Dr. Grace Augustine stood at his side, her eyes moving back and forth between the dissection table and the display screen, her face bearing a complex expression of scientific curiosity mixed with physiological discomfort.

"Begin recording," Osiris' voice echoed calmly through the laboratory. Putting on sterile gloves, he picked up a laser scalpel and sliced precisely into the chest cavity of the alien organism. The entire process was rigorous and meticulous, every movement fully captured by the high-precision sensors encircling the room.

As the dissection progressed deeper, more secrets regarding this extraterrestrial hunter were unveiled.

"The muscle fiber density is more than five times that of a human," Osiris stated while operating. "An unknown metallic crystalline compound has been detected within the skeletal structure, which explains its astonishing impact resistance."

Grace leaned in closer to observe, unable to suppress her amazement. "This kind of biological structure... is completely outside the evolutionary path of Earth biology."

However, as the research delved into the cellular level, an even more astounding discovery gradually surfaced.

When the complete data from the gene sequencing and telomere analysis materialized on the main screen, Grace involuntarily gasped, steadying her slightly trembling frame by holding onto the console.

Osiris' gaze calmly swept across the streaming data on the screen, his voice steady. "Based on a comprehensive analysis of cell division cycle markers and telomere stability, the natural physiological lifespan of this biological individual is conservatively estimated to be over one thousand Earth years. More importantly, its cells are capable of maintaining an actively youthful state throughout such a vast stretch of time—a characteristic unprecedented among known non-dormant higher life forms."

"A thousand years... and a thousand years of constantly maintaining a peak state?" Grace's voice shook slightly from shock. "This completely upends existing biological understanding. Even the Na'vi on Pandora don't have a lifespan anywhere near that number."

This discovery naturally directed the focus of the research toward the mechanism sustaining such a staggering lifespan. Osiris turned his attention to the blood sample that emitted a faint, translucent green fluorescence.

Over the next seventy-two hours, he and Grace engaged in intensive laboratory work.

First, they isolated the cellular components from the liquid matrix of the blood sample via high-speed centrifugation. Following that, they utilized a high-performance liquid chromatograph to conduct a fine separation of the matrix. Amidst countless fractions, a peculiar fluorescent peak caught their attention.

The substance corresponding to this peak exhibited a distinct emerald-green luster under ultraviolet light, alongside exceptionally stable chemical properties.

"It's this fraction," Osiris said, eyeing the peak on the chromatogram as his finger tapped the screen.

They collected this fraction via preparative chromatography, subsequently deploying mass spectrometry to determine its approximate molecular weight range.

The subsequent steps grew even more precise. They employed isoelectric focusing electrophoresis to achieve further purification based on the variance in the substance's electrical charges. During this process, Grace noticed that the substance would form a unique crystalline structure under specific pH conditions, providing a vital clue for subsequent study.

Through successive layers of separation and purification, what they ultimately obtained was a clear, pale-green fluorescent liquid. Under an electron microscope, regular nanometer-scale structural units could be observed distributed within it, spontaneously assembling into stable complexes.

"We succeeded." Osiris placed the final product sample into the analyzer. "This complex is precisely engineered from multiple biological macromolecules. Its core is an enzyme system that has never been documented, surrounded by an intricate network of signaling molecules."

"I am temporarily naming it 'Yautja Prime'." Osiris called up an analytical report onto the main screen. "Experiments demonstrate that this substance is capable of near-flawlessly reversing the cellular aging process."

Grace read through the data meticulously, her eyes widening. "It can not only clear senescent cells but also repair genetic damage... this is a total subversion of modern biology!"

Osiris brought up a detailed quantitative report and ran a series of complex calculations. A moment later, he looked up, his gaze sharp. "Conservatively estimated, the Yautja Prime extracted from this single corpse is sufficient to extend a standard human's prime physiological state by at least two hundred years."

"Two hundred years..." Grace muttered, repeating the number, before suddenly turning alert. "Wait, if this substance truly has such efficacy, it means—"

"It means every individual of the Predator race is a walking elixir of longevity." Osiris finished her sentence, his eyes profound. "More importantly, it means we may have kicked a hornet's nest."

He brought up another dataset. "Remember that deathbed signal? I re-analyzed its encoding structure. This wasn't a simple death rattle; it was a standard hunting coordinate marker. In Predator culture, this signal means two things: first, it marks a territory worthy of a hunt; second, it summons their kin to fight for honor."

Grace's face instantly turned pale. "You mean... more Predators will be coming here?"

"It's almost certain," Osiris said, closing the data panel. "And according to the memory fragments from Canute, the Predators have always been a vengeful race. The death of a young warrior is more than enough to trigger a hunting expedition."

He walked over to the observation window, gazing out at the Pandoran night. "The RDA's military forces are already struggling to deal with the Na'vi; facing a Predator hunting party outfitted with advanced gear and cunning tactics, they stand absolutely no chance. As for the Na'vi... even with Eywa's help, it will be very difficult to withstand hunters arriving from the stars."

Grace gripped her hands tensely. "We must warn them—"

"Warn them?" Osiris shook his head slightly. "Quaritch will only view this as an opportunity to acquire more alien technology, while the Na'vi will perceive it as yet another conspiracy by the Sky People."

He turned to face Grace, his tone solemn. "This finding must be kept strictly confidential. Before we are fully prepared to handle it, any leakage of information could trigger panic, or even accelerate the Predators' retaliation."

"But you don't look worried." Grace astutely noticed the composure beneath Osiris' calm exterior.

"Worry doesn't solve problems." A barely perceptible curve formed at the corner of Osiris' mouth. "If the Predators want to come, let them come. I simply need to ensure that when the hunters arrive, they find that the 'prey' here are far more dangerous than they imagined."

His gaze shifted back to the corpse on the dissection table, a calculating gleam flashing in his eyes. To Osiris , the imminent threat was not merely a crisis, but an opportunity—a chance to acquire more advanced extraterrestrial technological specimens, perhaps even to capture an intact Predator starship.

"Continue the analytical work," Osiris instructed. "Focus the study on their sensory ranges and combat paradigms. Since guests are coming, we must be thoroughly prepared to host them."

Gazing at Osiris' retreating back, Grace suddenly realized that within this seemingly mild-mannered scientist lay an essence far more dangerous than any alien hunter. On this planet filled with the unknown, the boundary between hunter and prey was quietly blurring.
