Chapter 63: Transform Linlin
"Huh? Isn't it simple?" Linlin said cheerfully. "We just join forces and create the strongest pirate crew in the world! Then we'll gather people of all races and build our own country—just like Mother's dream! A place where everyone can live together as one family, without status or discrimination!"
Her eyes gleamed as she added excitedly, "Oh! And everyone should be the same size so we can all sit together and have tea parties!"
Roy stared at her for a long moment. If he remembered correctly, Linlin's method of "uniting" people was through sheer force—conquering islands and forcing residents to live under her rule. That same island would one day become the core of Totto Land, the Country of Ten Thousand Races.
"How do you do it?" Roy asked, his tone calm but piercing.
"I'll brought everyone to my territory," Linlin said innocently. "Streusen said peace and happiness have a price—that they need to understand how hard it is to have everything."
As she spoke, a faint glow formed in her palm—the light of a soul.
"Look, Brother Roy! This is what I need most. I can turn it into Zeus, or dancing flowers. Remember?"
Roy stared at the soul light in her hand. "Is this the price?"
Linlin nodded earnestly. "Yes. They just give a little. Only one month's lifespan every half year. Streusen said it isn't much."
Roy's expression darkened. Not much? That's one-sixth of a person's life.
"Linlin," he said seriously, "do you understand the price you might pay for this one day?"
She blinked, clearly confused. The teachings of Streusen still echoed in her mind, yet seeing Roy's disapproval made her hesitate. He was the only family she had left—the only one she truly wanted to protect.
"Brother Roy, can you tell me?" she asked softly.
Roy looked toward the open sea. "Linlin, everything in this world has a price. The price of arrogance is destruction. The price of power is responsibility. And the greedy…" He paused. "…the greedy lose themselves."
Linlin swallowed hard. "Then Linlin's price…?"
"Death," Roy said quietly. "Losing everything. Even Mother's will—you'll twist it beyond recognition."
"Impossible!" Linlin's voice cracked. "How could Linlin ruin Mother's will!"
She wasn't afraid of dying—but the idea of betraying Mother's dream terrified her.
Roy didn't let up. If Streusen had taught her the concept of price, then he would make her understand it properly.
"Strength alone isn't enough," he continued. "You think you're powerful? That you've done well? You'll grow old one day, Linlin."
Her lips trembled. She thought of her uncontrollable hunger fits. Would she hurt Roy someday too?
She couldn't even outsmart Streusen —how could she possibly outgrow him?
"So… what should Linlin do?" she asked helplessly.
Roy sighed. "Then work hard. Truly cultivate your strength instead of relying on talent. If you're not smart enough, learn. Broaden your view of the world. Gather wisdom."
He stared directly at her. "You keep saying you want to build a country where everyone is family. But all you do is rob, destroy, eat, and waste your gifts. You force people to become family. You steal their lives instead of protecting them. A month of life for half a year—this isn't peace. It's tyranny."
Linlin froze. His words hit harder than any punch.
"Ruling a country isn't simple," Roy said. "If you continue like this, you'll only disgrace Mother's ideals."
"Then what should Linlin do!?" she cried, her head spinning.
Roy rubbed his temples. "You don't need to understand everything right now. Strengthen yourself. Learn. Be cautious. The affairs of a country are no joke."
Linlin frowned, scratching her head. "These words make my brain hurt. I don't get it."
"You don't need to—yet," Roy said gently. "I'll teach you someday… when my time here is over."
As he spoke, a thought formed in his mind. If he was to live freely with his wives and avoid unnecessary conflict, he still needed a deterrent—a symbol of power strong enough to keep the world at bay.
If he could shape Linlin into something better, then Totto Land itself could become his shield.
"Why don't you write it down?" Linlin said suddenly. "Linlin might not understand now, but she'll learn slowly." Then her eyes widened. "Wait—your time? Are you sick? Don't worry, Brother Roy! Linlin will find the best doctors and medicines for you!"
Roy smiled faintly. People were selfish, even in kindness. His words were both for Linlin's sake—and his own.
"No," he said softly. "It's not a sickness. It's just something I have to do. We'll meet again in the future."
"That's good." Linlin exhaled deeply and smiled with relief. "You scared me, Brother Roy. Huh~"
