Early the next morning, Qian Renyue and Ning Rongrong ran back to the village where Shrek Academy was located. Seeing that everyone was still asleep, they went to wash up together, having worked up a sweat from their run.
While the two girls were washing, Tang San woke up and began cultivating his Purple Demon Eye. After a night's rest, his soul power and mental energy had fully recovered. Once he finished his cultivation, he quickly headed to the clearing where Zhao Wuji had tested them the previous day to gather his hidden weapons.
Tang San had put a lot of effort into crafting these hidden weapons, so he couldn't bear to simply abandon them. If he could still use them, that would be ideal. Little did he know that while Tang San was still unconscious, Qian Renyue had already copied all the hidden weapons and sent the copies to the Martial Soul Hall.
After retrieving all his hidden weapons, Tang San jumped onto the roof of a house and began cultivating. Pressure was also a driving force. After yesterday's battle, he could faintly sense that his soul power was on the verge of breaking through from level twenty-nine to level thirty. Once he reached level thirty and cultivated his soul power to its peak, he could hunt his third Soul Beast and gain another Soul Ring. At that point, his strength would undergo a qualitative leap.
As the sun rose, Tang San returned to the dormitory. Oscar was still fast asleep, clutching his blanket and snoring loudly. When Tang San had woken him up earlier to ask about his low score on yesterday's exam, Oscar had been drooling in his sleep.
Tang San shook Oscar awake and asked, "Oscar, the day begins in the morning. Aren't you going to get up and cultivate?"
Oscar rubbed his eyes and replied with a sigh, "I'm not like you guys. You're Battle Soul Masters. I'm an Instrument Soul Master, and a Food-Type one at that. I don't need to go through all that complicated cultivation. Big brother, please stop bothering me. Let me sleep a little longer."
Tang San sighed in resignation. "Then at least tell me where Xiao Wu is staying. I want to check on her to see if she's feeling better."
Oscar said, "Leave our dormitory, turn left, and walk about thirty meters. There's a wooden house over there. That's where Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong are staying. Shrek Academy occupies about a third of the village's area, while the other side is where the villagers live. Try not to go over there unless you have to."
Shrek Academy was indeed strapped for cash. The entire campus was simply a basic construction on one-third of the village's land, with the so-called classrooms being nothing more than the villagers' old wooden houses. Fortunately, Soto City was relatively close, making it easier to buy supplies.
Tang San soon arrived at the girls' dormitory and called out softly, "Xiao Wu? Xiao Wu?"
After a short wait, Qian Renyue, Ning Rongrong, and Xiao Wu emerged together.
"Sorry, did I wake you?" Tang San didn't know the other two had gone to Soto City yesterday, so he assumed he had disturbed them.
"No, we came back early," Qian Renyue replied. The three girls had already finished washing up, but Xiao Wu still looked pale.
"Xiao Wu, are you feeling better?" Tang San nodded to Qian Renyue and anxiously asked about Xiao Wu's condition.
Xiao Wu put a finger to her lips, gesturing for silence. "I'm much better, Brother. Don't worry. Zhu Qing is still cultivating. Let's not disturb her. Let's go find something to eat."
As newcomers, and having all passed out from the battle yesterday, the four of them knew nothing about Shrek Academy. With no other options, they decided to follow the smoke rising from the village, hoping to find a place with food.
The village wasn't large. As they walked, they unknowingly left the boundaries of Shrek Academy. Since they couldn't find the academy's breakfast hall, Tang San decided to buy some food in the village to tide Xiao Wu over. Qian Renyue suggested they eat the snacks she had prepared the previous day.
The four of them turned to head back and find a place to eat when they noticed a young man and woman arguing nearby.
Both teenagers looked quite young. The girl, glancing at the Little Fatty, wore a hint of fear in her eyes. "Ma Hongjun, please stop looking for me. I won't be with you anymore."
The Little Fatty whined, "Cuihua, haven't I been good to you? Why are you breaking up with me?"
Where there's gossip, there's no reason not to watch. Qian Renyue couldn't help but complain inwardly: Why is everyone so precocious? Yu Tianheng and Dugu Yan were understandable, being eighteen already, but the students at Shrek Academy were barely thirteen or fourteen at most. Yet they were already dating and sneaking off to rooms together.
Cuihua's face flushed. "You've been very kind to me, but I really can't stand you. We're not compatible. You should find someone else. Besides, I'm several years older than you. Please, don't come looking for me again."
Little Fatty Ma Hongjun retorted angrily, "What do you mean 'can't stand me'? I'll never understand what you women are thinking. Fine, we can break up, but only after one last time. Otherwise, forget it."
As he spoke, Little Fatty reached out to grab Cuihua. Like a startled rabbit, she quickly retreated, but he was too fast. He still managed to seize her hand.
Cuihua pleaded, "No, please don't. Just let me go. Are you even human?"
Xiao Wu couldn't stand it any longer. She leaped forward, shouting, "Stop!"
Both Little Fatty and Cuihua froze, turning to face her. The fatty's small eyes blinked, his whiskers twitched, and a lustful light flashed in his eyes. "What a beautiful girl. So, you want to take her place as my girlfriend? Fine, no problem. I agree."
"Bullshit!" Xiao Wu roared, kicking his hand away from Cuihua. "You little hooligan! You're already learning bad habits at such a young age. Are you trying to kidnap a woman in broad daylight?"
Hearing Xiao Wu's words, Little Fatty's face immediately darkened. "This is our business. You butt out. Since you're not going to be my woman, get lost."
"You fat pig! How dare you talk to your Xiao Wu sister like that? You're asking for trouble! Today, I'll teach you some manners!" Xiao Wu's temper flared, and she immediately launched a flying kick at Ma Hongjun.
"Phoenix Martial Soul Fusion!" Ma Hongjun sensed the considerable force behind Xiao Wu's kick and immediately activated his Martial Soul Fusion.
Hearing the word "Phoenix," Xiao Wu retracted her leg and jumped back to Tang San's side. The Phoenix Martial Soul was a top-tier Martial Soul, not to be trifled with.
Ma Hongjun's body was enveloped in purple light. The expected wings didn't appear, but as the crimson-purple light radiated outward, it immediately released intense heat. Two yellow Soul Rings rose simultaneously from beneath his feet, and long feathers sprouted from his exposed, muscular arms. His hands transformed into claw-like talons.
Watching his transformation, Xiao Wu burst into laughter. "Is there such a fat Phoenix? No matter how I look at it, he just looks like a barnyard chicken."
Ma Hongjun's eyes flared with rage as if his most sensitive nerve had been touched. "Who are you calling a chicken?" he roared. Raising his hands, his first Soul Ring suddenly ignited. He opened his mouth wide, and a thin stream of purplish-red flames shot toward Xiao Wu.
"Watch out!" Tang San waved his right hand, and a long blue vine gracefully wrapped around Xiao Wu's slender waist, pulling her horizontally to his side, narrowly dodging Ma Hongjun's fiery blast.
But Ma Hongjun clearly wasn't finished. The flames from his mouth remained at a constant length of five meters, sweeping across Xiao Wu's body like a five-meter-long fiery weapon.
Tang San pulled Xiao Wu's hand and retreated rapidly, while several strands of Blue Silver Grass quickly spread across the ground. After a brief observation, he had determined that Ma Hongjun's flames were extremely hot but had a critical weakness: their range was limited to five meters. As long as they could restrict his movement, defeating him wouldn't be difficult.
Just as Ma Hongjun was about to pursue them, he felt his feet stiffen. His legs were tightly bound by the Blue Silver Grass. A sharp stinging pain shot up from his skin, followed by a numbing sensation.
Ma Hongjun was startled. Looking down, he saw the Blue Silver Grass coiling around him. Without hesitation, he activated his second Soul Ring skill. Intense purple flames erupted from his body, instantly bursting outward from within his corpulent frame. The Blue Silver Grass wrapped around him ignited instantly upon contact with the purple flames, turning to ash in the blink of an eye.
Tang San felt somewhat powerless. His fire-type Martial Soul was the natural nemesis of his Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul. Though the Soul Ring had made the Blue Silver Grass incredibly resilient, it was still a plant-type Martial Soul, inherently vulnerable to fire.
Their opponent was alone, and only a Great Soul Master. Qian Renyue and Ning Rongrong couldn't provide direct support to Tang San and Xiao Wu, so they could only wait for the battle to end and offer healing if anyone was injured.
"I'll go," Xiao Wu said, seeing Tang San at a disadvantage. She immediately activated her Martial Soul, charging toward Ma Hongjun.
Ma Hongjun was delighted to see Xiao Wu charging at him. He unleashed a Phoenix Fire Line, drawing a circular arc in the air to block all her possible paths forward.
Ma Hongjun thought to himself, *Damn you, little brat! How dare you call me a barnyard chicken? If I don't teach you a lesson, I'm not the Evil Fire Phoenix!* But then he added, *She's actually quite pretty. I shouldn't burn her too badly.* As he thought this, the flames he exhaled weakened slightly, still capable of inflicting injury but no longer lethal.
Xiao Wu, sensing the drop in temperature, decided to ease up on him as well. Just when Ma Hongjun thought she was about to be caught in his First Soul Ring Skill, Phoenix Fire Line, Xiao Wu suddenly curled up in mid-air, her body twisting and turning with an unnatural grace that seemed to defy human limits. She slipped through the narrow gaps in his fiery stream, and when she straightened out again, she was right beside him.
"First Soul Skill: Waist Bow!" Xiao Wu stood on Ma Hongjun's shoulder, her legs clamped around his neck, and activated her First Soul Skill, flinging him away.
"Stop fighting! Please, stop fighting!" Miss Cuihua suddenly called out, rushing towards Ma Hongjun. The flames on his body seemed to extinguish as he crashed to the ground, dizzy and disoriented, struggling to his feet.
Cuihua brushed the dirt off Ma Hongjun's body. "Are you okay?"
Ma Hongjun grunted. "I'm not dead yet. Little Rabbit, come at me again."
"Miss Cuihua, what's going on?" Xiao Wu asked, puzzled by Cuihua's concern for Ma Hongjun.
Cuihua pleaded, "Please stop fighting. Actually, Hongjun is a good person, but we're just not right for each other. That's why I had to break up with him. Please leave. I'll sort things out with him myself."
Ma Hongjun roared, "Stay out of this! Get out of my way!" With that, he shoved Cuihua aside and lunged at Xiao Wu again.
Just then, a surprised voice rang out, "Tang San, Little Fatty, what are you doing?"
