Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: The Looming Crisis and the Strategy

Engulfed in his newfound reptilian madness, Dr. Connors—now the Lizard—had one terrifying goal: to turn everyone in the city into Lizard People. His mutated intelligence led him to formulate a plan involving a powerful dispersal machine inside Osborn Tower.

By utilizing this industrial device, he could launch the massive quantity of serum he planned to synthesize, scattering it throughout the city and forcing humanity into his vision of "evolution." He furiously began producing more genetic serum, preparing to inject himself further to increase his strength and ensure his plan's success.

Meanwhile, Su Yi, Gwen, and Peter were meeting at a quiet cafe. Peter, though excluded from the direct action, was eager to help.

Su Yi, leveraging his foreknowledge, laid out the grim situation. "Professor Lizard's plan is clear: he will use a dispersal machine in Osborn Tower to launch the genetic serum across the city, turning everyone into Lizard People. We're talking tonight or tomorrow night—it's imminent."

Peter was stunned. "What? Su, how can you possibly know that?"

"My superpower," Su Yi said smoothly, offering a plausible lie. "It occasionally allows me to foresee some future events. But right now, we need to focus on the battle plan."

Gwen, ever practical, leaned forward. "So, what's the strategy?"

"Peter hasn't finished his battle suit, so direct combat isn't an option," Su Yi explained. "Gwen, your primary mission is to find an opportunity to infiltrate Osborn Tower and create the antidote."

"As for the fighting? Leave the brute force to me. I'll engage him directly, subdue him, and hold him until the antidote is ready."

Peter, though disappointed he couldn't fight, offered the crucial information. "The manufacturing method for the serum is in the lab computer, in the XX folder. Gwen should be able to reverse-engineer it quickly."

"I understand," Gwen confirmed, her expression serious.

Peter could only fume internally about his unfinished suit. If I had worked faster, I could be there helping! Despite his frustration, he trusted Su Yi implicitly.

As night fell, Peter waited anxiously by the radio, and Gwen stayed alert in her room. Su Yi, meanwhile, initiated the second phase of his plan: alerting the authorities.

He found an opportunity to contact Chief George Stacy.

"Hello, this is George," the Chief answered warily.

"Hello there, Chief George. I am Spider Bully."

George immediately tensed. "Is there something you need? I'm warning you, any more vigilantism and—"

"I've found crucial clues about Professor Lizard," Su Yi interrupted. "He plans to create more serum and use a machine in Osborn Tower to launch it. The goal is to turn everyone in the city into Lizard monsters."

George hesitated. "How can you prove what you're saying?"

"Are you going to wait until your family all turn into lizards before you believe me?" Su Yi challenged. "I don't know the exact time he'll attack, but you must at least send people to strengthen patrols around the Tower. And have your officers equipped with gas masks to avoid inhaling the serum."

The gravity of the threat forced George's hand. "If they turn into Lizard monsters, can they turn back?"

"Theoretically, yes, if an antidote can be created," Su Yi replied. "But I doubt anyone wants to experience mutating first. I will arrange for personnel immediately."

Though George's subordinates grumbled about the bizarre assignment, they complied, strengthening patrols in the streets surrounding Osborn Tower.

In a quiet neighborhood several blocks from the Tower, a patrol car pulled over. A few of George's subordinates stepped out, deciding to grab a quick coffee break.

"I don't know why the boss thinks Professor Lizard would appear near a coffee shop," one officer complained.

"Maybe lizards like to eat garbage," another joked.

Suddenly, a massive, reptilian claw burst from a nearby sewer grate. Professor Lizard emerged, fully transformed, his eyes blazing with madness, and began a frantic run toward Osborn Tower.

The startled officers quickly reacted. "This is Team C! Anomaly near Team C! Pedestrians are fleeing! We are heading to investigate!"

George, monitoring the radio, immediately mobilized units to encircle and intercept. "Target is in Sector C, moving towards Osborn Tower! Evacuate personnel, surround him!"

Su Yi, hearing the familiar sector designation, knew the time had come. He first Teleported to collect Gwen, dropping her off near a secure, hidden service entrance to the Tower with instructions to begin synthesizing the antidote.

Then, the Spider-Bully flew toward the chaos.

George's subordinates, fully masked and armed, tried to stop the monstrous figure. But the Lizard was now in his complete, final form, impervious to conventional bullets. Rounds simply bounced off his thick hide.

The Lizard observed the armed law enforcement. Since bullets were ineffective, and the respirators protected them from his serum, he shifted tactics. He feigned being stunned, collapsing on the pavement.

As the officers cautiously approached, the Lizard erupted with sudden, incredible speed. He smashed the respirators of the closest officers with a sweep of his powerful tail. Simultaneously, he shattered a vial of serum he was carrying. The resulting gaseous cloud spread instantly.

Those exposed officers immediately began convulsing, their skin tightening and cracking as the forced, painful mutation began.

At that critical moment, Su Yi descended from the sky, landing with a ground-shaking impact that blocked the Lizard's path to the wider city.

The Lizard looked at the black-suited figure, unimpressed. The weaker one's partner. No match for my evolved form.

"You cannot stop me," the Lizard hissed, his voice guttural and primal. "I am stronger and smarter than last time. I represent evolution, I represent the future of humanity!"

Su Yi scoffed, his Symbiote suit giving him a truly terrifying presence. "Turning into a lizard, you call that evolution? My definition involves being stronger, smarter, and longer-lived—without the scales and the mindless rage."

Su Yi sneered. "So, let me see your evolved power!"

The Lizard was enraged by the dismissal and lunged with a massive claw.

George, watching from a distance, panicked. "He wouldn't turn into a Lizard monster too, would he?" The thought of an already powerful vigilante gaining the Lizard's strength terrified him.

The scene George imagined did not occur. The Lizard's charging arm was easily caught by Su Yi, who then effortlessly redirected the momentum. With a deafening roar that shook the surrounding buildings, Su Yi slammed the Lizard to the ground. The creature hit the concrete like a sack of lead, the force of the impact vibrating through the street.

Su Yi placed a single, booted foot squarely on the creature's massive chest.

"Is this your so-called evolution?" Su Yi asked, his voice dripping with contempt. "Pathetic!"

The Lizard is subdued, and Gwen is working on the antidote, setting the stage for the climactic conclusion.
