Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: The Kingpin's Shadow and the Lawyers of Hell's Kitchen

Su Yi's chosen test for Peter and Gwen wasn't a physical battle against a brute, but a moral and tactical campaign against the darkness lurking beneath the city's veneer: Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin.

While Peter and Gwen could easily defeat the Kingpin in a straight fight, the problem lay in the aftermath. With his vast influence, Fisk could escape any conventional prison sentence and continue his reign from the shadows. To truly dismantle him, they needed irrefutable legal proof and a severance of his external network.

After school, Su Yi drove Gwen and Peter to the modest offices of Nelson & Murdock in Hell's Kitchen. Su Yi had contacted Foggy Nelson under the pretense of a lucrative business discussion.

Inside the law firm, Foggy and Matt Murdock waited eagerly. Foggy was ecstatic, anticipating the reputation and financial boost a big case would bring.

"Matt, this is a huge client. We absolutely must take this case," Foggy insisted, clutching his coffee cup.

Matt, though blind, was "watching" the door with his super-senses. "No problem."

A few moments later, Su Yi, Gwen, and Peter walked in. Foggy was surprised by their youthful appearance.

"Hello, you must be Lawyer Foggy and Lawyer Matt?" Su Yi greeted them warmly.

"That's us. Are you looking to retain our services?" Foggy asked, trying to sound professional despite his surprise.

"That's right. The retainer fee is generous, but the case is... complex," Su Yi stated.

Foggy immediately swelled with professional pride. "Though our firm is new, we are highly capable. We can handle any problem."

Matt, listening intently, noted the unusual stillness in Su Yi and Gwen's heartbeats and the controlled tension in their bodies—they were far from ordinary civilians.

"We trust you," Su Yi affirmed. "That's why we chose your firm."

"May I ask the nature of the case?" Foggy prompted, practically vibrating with excitement.

Su Yi pulled out a discreet photograph. The subject was a massive, imposing man. "We want to sue this individual."

Foggy looked at the photo and supplied the name. "Wilson Fisk."

Matt froze. His nighttime persona, Daredevil, had recently uncovered tantalizing clues about the city's true underground emperor—a man known only as the Kingpin, whose civilian identity was, indeed, Wilson Fisk.

Someone came to me just as I discovered his name? Matt's suspicion immediately flared. Are they Fisk's people trying to gauge my knowledge? If they are, Foggy is in danger!

Foggy, oblivious to the deeper threat, was merely curious. "He's a well-known capitalist and philanthropist around here. Is there a problem?"

Su Yi lowered his voice, forcing the lawyers to lean in. "He is the true king of the city's underground. The root of many of the city's crimes starts with this man. The only issue is that we currently lack the concrete evidence needed to nail him."

"So," Su Yi finished, "we need your help."

Foggy hesitated for a moment, on the verge of accepting, but Matt abruptly stopped him.

"Who are you, really?" Matt demanded, his blind stare fixed on Su Yi.

Su Yi knew he had to alleviate Matt's suspicion while revealing his true intentions. With a subtle mental command, the sleek, black Symbiote Suit instantly covered him.

Seeing Su Yi's transformation, Gwen followed suit, the white-and-pink Ghost-Spider Symbiote wrapping around her. Peter, caught completely off-guard, stammered.

"Hey, Su, you didn't say we were going to transform! I didn't bring my suit!" Peter whispered awkwardly.

"We're not fighting," Su Yi assured him. "We're stating our identities."

Foggy stared, mouth agape, recognizing the two heroes who had just tackled the Lizard.

Su Yi addressed the unmasked Matt directly. "Lawyer Matt, I know you are Daredevil. And Lawyer Foggy, we need your help."

Gwen was completely surprised. "Su, Lawyer Matt is Daredevil?"

Foggy was equally shell-shocked. "Matt, you're Daredevil? Why didn't you tell me? We're lawyers! We uphold justice through the law!"

"By the time the law catches up, the victims are dead," Matt explained, his voice strained. "I don't judge them; I just stop them before they kill anyone else." Foggy sagged with relief; at least his best friend hadn't become a murderer.

Matt returned his attention to the costumed vigilantes. "How did you know my identity?"

"It's my ability," Su Yi said, echoing the words of a famous futurist. "Tony Stark was right—this world needs many Superheroes. And a hero like you, who fights for the law, is indispensable."

"We've come to seek your help. We want to work together to gather evidence and ensure Kingpin is brought to justice, through the legal system."

Matt pressed him, his tone reflecting his current moral struggle. "Do you know how complicated this is? More people will be harmed by him while we wait for the law."

"I know," Su Yi said simply. "That's why we came. We can help you protect as many people as possible."

Matt's frustration was visible. "I think the best way is to send him to hell myself."

"What?" Foggy cried out, horrified. "Matt! You are not this kind of person! We can bring him down through the proper legal procedures! We are not God; we don't have the power to judge him!"

Su Yi stepped in before the argument escalated. "If we wanted to eliminate Kingpin, it would be simple. I could rush over now and end him with one punch. But I don't want to do that. At this moment, we still have a choice."

"I am asking you to use your professional abilities to put him away. We will support you by gathering the evidence needed to make that possible."

Foggy, energized by the moral imperative and his fear for Matt's soul, stepped forward and pointed at Fisk's photo with a shaking finger.

"I'll take it," Foggy stated firmly. "He almost drove my best friend to break the law and become a killer. He must be a heinous criminal. I will use my methods to get him." Foggy then turned and walked out, needing time to process everything.

Matt finally yielded. "I agree. You're right. We still have a choice now; we don't have to resort to such extreme measures."

The alliance is formed: the masked heroes will find the proof, and the lawyers will fight the legal battle.
