Chapter - 19
The morning sun slipped through the dirty curtains in the "VIP room" where Leo was made to spend the night. And the warmth of the sun could do almost nothing to the cold stone walls.
It was probably worse than the prison chamber back on earth.
"Ughh!"
His back ached as he woke up on the rough, uneven mattress. But maybe it was still better than spending the night out in the cold in the forest.
And thinking about the forest, messy memories from yesterday came back in his head. The bandits, the undead, the roleplaying Brena, that stuck-up Lady Aliana. It was all still like a dream, hard to digest.
But apart from killing the two bandits, the highlight of yesterday's mess was possibly her.
The beautiful Lady Seraphine.
Thinking about Lady Seraphine, Leo lay there for a while, staring at the ceiling, replaying everything from last night.
First there was that quest to find the snake in the Bastard Lord's backyard: The Serpent in the Keep.
The rewards looked really good to him right now, but if he tried completing the quest, he would surely make a few enemies. Was it worth it?
Leo really wished he could say NO. But if he was going to live here, in this new world will have to take a few chances. Otherwise, anyone could step on him and leave.
Good thing there was no penalty for the quest. He will try to find out who it is behind the kidnapping attempt of Aliana. But if turned out to be a troublesome guy, he would just brush it under the rug.
And then there was that amazing quest he accepted last night.
Cuckold the Bastard Lord.
Man, he was going to enjoy it.
That bastard lord was not an easy character, and neither was that Lady Seraphine. But that woman was worth the trouble of making enemies.
She was interesting. He tried to read her up with the help of his Amulet of Keen Observation. But the amulet didn't give him anything solid. There was no weird pulse, no heart-racing. She was unreadable.
And that made her either way too pure, or extremely dangerous. He would prefer the first one, but his gamer instincts told him that it was most likely the latter.
So was she playing her own game, or was she just a piece being moved by her husband to trap him in? It was hard to say. But if he was, he was sending the sheep to the wolf on his own. He was going to regret it.
"Alright, Aiva," he muttered, swinging his legs off the bed, "Time to get back to work."
The first step was obvious. Leo needed more information. And right now, there was only one source.
Brena, the roleplaying bitch.
So without wasting his time, Leo walked out of his own VIP prison, to find Brena.
He had to ask around, but eventually he was able to find his way to the dungeon.
There was no one guarding the dungeon, and the path was predictable. Down, down, and further down
As he went down, the air started to get colder and the stone wall started to feel damp. He felt his skin crawling with coldness. In games this scene looked so cool, but in reality, it smelled like despair.
Finally after walking for what felt like a good 5 minutes, he came across a heavy, iron-barred door. It was not that big, and a guard sat on a chair outside it, lazily guarding it.
But just as the guard felt someone's presence, he promptly stood up. But seeing an unfamiliar face, he frowned.
"Halt. Restricted area," The guard stood in front of him, sizing up Leo.
Leo didn't argue. It was a waste of time. He simply reached into his pocket, while thinking in his head. And when he pulled out, there was a gold coin between his fingers.
"I need to see someone inside. The bandit woman."
The guard looked a bit surprised looking at the coin but then let out a chuckle, "Who do you think you are trying to bribe? Piss off. These dungeons are for official business only."
Hearing the guard, Leo's expression didn't change. He just rubbed the coin and in front of the guard's eyes, another coin appeared between his fingers.
"What about now?" Leo asked with a smirk playing in his lips. But the guard did not move, he just stared at the coins in Leo's hands.
Leo did not like to waste time for no reason at all. And just like that out of thin air, The third… Fourth… and the fifth gold coin appeared in his palms.
The arrogant look on the guard's face washed away just like that, and was replaced by greediness. His eyes fixated on the glistering gold in Leo's palms.
His monthly allowance was only 10 gold coins. And the man in front of him casually pulled out half a month of his salary? This was way too absurd.
But the guard still did not move. But it was out of sheer surprise.
Leo saw the look on his face and smirked, "Looks like this isn't official enough to you. The Lord really has some loyal dogs."
"Oh well, I tried." And with a helpless look on his face, Leo pretended to leave.
"Sir…" The guard hastily called out for Leo in panic, "The Captain would have my head…" he stammered, but his eyes remained on the Gold coins.
"The Captain isn't here," Leo said, smiling gently, "But this gold is."
And that was it, the guard swallowed hard, this was a good chance to earn a bit extra. And he knew about this guy. He was stationed outside the audience hall yesterday. He is the Lord's guest. So what could go wrong?
He nervously looked around. No one was on sight.
But Leo could feel something. Someone was watching. But it wasn't unusual. He was not welcome here, so it was evident people will be interested in an unwelcomed guest.
But it was not the priority right now. The guard was sold. The guard took the gold coins and quickly stuffed them in his pocket.
"Five minutes," he whispered, "And I was never here." He unlocked the heavy door and pushed it open.
"She is in the last cell. I will take you there."
The guard led him through the narrow hallway. There were torches burning on his left, but one had to strain their eyes to see around.
On his right were small wooden doors that led to different prison chambers.
The guard finally stopped in front of a wooden door, pulled out a key from all the keys on his waist and opened the door
"5 minutes. I will be waiting outside." The guard reminded Leo.
"A gold coin for every minute? That's expensive."
Leo crouched a little to get into the room. The chamber was not that big. It was like a 6 feet X 10 feet room. And there was no bed or mattress inside. There was only a small wooden table, and 2 chairs.
Leo's room was definitely the VIP version of this shit hole.
Right now, Brena was sitting on a chair, her face lying on the table.
Hearing the door open, she lazily looked up. Her face that looked somewhat attractive in the forest was now swollen and bruised up.
When she saw it was Leo who entered, her eyes turned hateful and her lips curled up in disgust.
"Well, well. Look what the bastard walk in," she snarled, "Come to finish the job, pretty boy?"
