Darien wasn't saying anything at first. He simply watched Amara from where he sat, elbows propped casually, like this was just another Tuesday morning and not… whatever this was supposed to be. With her hands clasped in her lap, she sat stiffly on the long black couch across from him. She was no longer trembling, at least. She had looked as though she might pass out in his arms just ten minutes prior.
"So," she began. "Can you explain? Properly, I mean. Why did HR tell me I'm no longer cleaning staff but suddenly a secretary? And your secretary at that?"
Darien's mouth twitched, not exactly a smile, more like someone who had just accepted that they had to be patient with a particularly stubborn kitten. "It's exactly what it sounds like," he replied. "You'll start working as my secretary tomorrow. Nothing complicated. And don't stress about training, you'll pick it up fast." He jerked his thumb over his shoulder without turning. "Theron will teach you anything you need to know."
