Chapter 8 - Two weeks and the rewards of training.

[Item: Padded Work Shoes]

A pair of black high knee boots in a military style with silver buckles. They negate minor environmental damage and slow down fatigue gain. They offer support for the ankles to endure long runs. They are steelcapped, perfect for quick and if necessary, forceful deliveries.

Introduction: Designed for couriers who can't afford rest. Reinforced soles protect against broken glass, rubble, and long hours.

I liked the pair. Even more so that they were seemed to be exactly what I needed. I didn't put them on immediately, instead I waited until I was home in the Harunagi District. There, after I ate a filling meal provided by the food voucher, I pulled them out of the inventory. The boots looked like they would fit perfectly and after I slipped into them, I was proven right.

With the boots and a good supply of constant, high quality food, nearly two weeks passed. But not without some small difficulties. On two occasions, Bakugo and Co tried to skip the last hour of school to catch me, which as I had proven was difficult, simply by leaving from a different side of the building. How did I know they were planning it? The skill "Detection" was very helpful on that matter. While it wasn't as good as a Spidey-Sense would have been, it was in specific situations even better that what Spiderman had. The skill allowed me to be aware of their intentions behind each gaze they threw my way and the feeling of patience, hunger for violence and barely contained excitement was all I needed to know what they had planned. I just didn't know where they were setting up the ambush. Not then.

How ever, they were bad enough at sneaking around. So I spotted them from the window as they hid behind the one of the gates and one even behind a tree.....

Yeah, not really intelligent that bunch.

But that was that. Bakugo never actually tried to talk to me in those two weeks, at least not if you didn't count insults and threats as "talking".

Inko tried to find me a few times, too. Once she even showed up right infront of the school gate, not aware that there were several exits around the school. She never saw me leave the building.

Then there were the weekly quests I had completed during that time.

The Rewards for both were much similar. +50 Exp (per quest), 6 Equipment Vouchers (3 Survival and 3 Random).

The objectives stayed the same, avoid Bakugo, hide from Inko and train my body. All three were easily achieved. Though the third was mostly just by pure luck, as doing the deliveries late in the day helped build stamina. A more intense training wouldn't be good for my body, so I just gave my all to it.

The equipment I got?

[Category: Survival]

1. Skill Crystal: Home

This skill allows you to define a specific space as your home. Said space can not be perceived by outsiders, unless invited. Intruders will be turned around at the entrance to the domicile.

Can be leveled up by staying inside the dedicated space and turning it into an actual home. (0/100) Leveling this skill doesn't require Exp, but instead days lived.

2. Cloak of Weather:

This cloak has three features, besides keeping the host warm and comfortable in any weather.

2.1. Weather detection: Depending on the weather and season, the coat shifts colour to both hide the user and inform him of incoming weather phenomena.

2.2. Weather Adjustment: Depending on the weather and temperature, the cloak adjusts to it, growing warmer in the cold and reducing heat in hot temperatures.

2.3. Nightlife: During the night, the cloak turns the user invisible as long as the wearer is moving at less than half his max speed or standing still. Ambient light will be absorbed to shroud the user from sight and enable night/clear vision.

3. Data-Dagger:

This dagger, front and back black while it's edges change colour between electric and deep blue and neon green, in hypnotic patterns, is used to hack into anything containing electric signals.

3.1. Data-Transfer: Upon contact with the electric current inside the device, all digital date begins copy and transfer into a separate database.

3.2. Data-Base: Connects with any digital device and or server, the user has ownership of.

3.3. Data-Roaming: Upon activating this ability, the dagger will begin to levitate around the host and, once it has detected an Access-Point for data, will activate a homing-function and actively avoid obstacles.

3.4. Data-Access: Any type of object with electric current can be controlled or unlocked once it has been stabbed by the dagger. Continued contact is unnecessary.

[The roaming range will be restricted to 15 meters as a radius centered around the user. Once the homing function is active, it will follow the target until completion upon which the dagger will return to the user. Once the user acquires psychic powers, range will increase.]

I had originally asked the system why the home and the dagger were even there, as they didn't actually fit into the survival empathise, the dagger less then the skill crystal. It had explained the following.

[The Skill Crystal: Home, was rewarded as you have found a space to call home and not a bad one at that. Every Person that lives requires a home, be it a literal one, or a metaphysical one. Survival does not always mean nomadic. This skill was awarded to encourage settling and upgraded to increase safety.]

[Item: Data-Dagger]

[The dagger itself does not originate from this or any known universe. Though it was researched and created in its home dimensions to allow for survival. That dimension and world had suffered from extrem negative temperatures for several centuries. The only still functioning facilities and regions of safety were hidden behind military grade bunkers protected by data pads, encryption and more. So, while it is not considered a "Survival-Item" in this world, it was considered as such in its original one. Therefore it was included in the pull.]

After having listened to the system, I suddenly felt lucky that I had landed in this world and not the icy hellscape the dagger originated from. I had decided to try everything out, except the dagger as I didn't want to have holes in my walls because yes, the system had never said anything about the device needing a mother board, just an electric current, of which there was enough running through the building. The cloak surprised me the most, more than it's invisibility already did. When it said changing colour, it didn't just mean red cloak orange cloak. It ment camouflage based on the weather and location. Seriously. Once I had stepped out of the building and into the plant life outside my building, the cloak changed from grey to grey, black, different hues of green and even brown patches.

And of course I couldn't forget about the Skill Crystal. Once I broke it, a blueish screen appeared before me. One that showed me all the locations I could currently claim as mine. How ever a requirement was that I actually considered it my home and that I felt safe within it. Sadly it showed only the top floor of the building I was in. Though I guessed that having all five floors plus the two warehouse floors below me claimable, would have been overkill, even for me.

Then of course, came the 3 Random equipment vouchers I had used. They were wild and out there. I mean seriously? Here, take a look.

[Category: Random]

1. Specialized Gun:

This gun, sliver plated with a black main body, is what every sniper and assassin would kill for.

1.1 Silenced: This gun is truly silent. There is no loud "bang", just blissful silence, or ignorance giving potential victims a few seconds of peace before they die, unaware of the fatal injury.

1.2. Long ranged:

Is it a one handed gun? Yes. Should it be useful as a sniper rifle? No. But no one told its creator it couldn't. Said creator being the same that uses a shotgun as a sniper. Therefore, even one handed, the gun might just hit accurately even hundreds of meters away, provided one is a good marksman.

1.3. Targeted:

Potential threats will be highlighted in red, once they enter the detection range of the user. Targets will be shown by overlapping the users regular eye sight. Detection is limited to a mix of line of sight and immediat surroundings. Line of sight can be enhanced by using the iron sights.

1.4. Infinite:

Who cares about ammunition? I just reload. This gun has infinite ammunition however, once the clip/magazine is empty, you have to reload. The magazine itself is not infinite, however the amount of magazines is. (Discarded magazines vanish after 10 minutes)

2. Black Orb:

This hateful piece of ....whatever it is made of....has an almost hateful relationship with anything breakable, be it windows, bones or the laws of physics.

2.1. Shatter: Upon contact with an enemy/obstacle, said point of contact will break, be it skin, muscle tissue, bones or walls.

2.2. Perpetual motion (Make it bounce!): With every time the orb hits a surface, it releases the same amount of kinetic energy as it was thrown with, continuously and without loss. Once the orb has bounced of three or more surfaces after initial release, it's pattern becomes random and unobservable/unpredictable. (Phases through the user)

2.3. Schrödinger's Balls (Is the ball there if I can't see it?):

Once the ball enters an unobserved state (User excluded, unseen by conscious beings, be it through cameras or direct line of sight) for three seconds, the ball multiplies and continues it's demolition of the surrounding space and lives.

2.4. Return (Inevitably I will return):

Once the ball and or the user consider it's job done, the ball returns to the user instantly. Multiplied Balls, besides the original, explode with the force of a splinter grenade. Splinters carry chaotic effects ranging from euphoria, to nausea. Burning to freezing and more effects.

3. Item: Rod of Radical Inconvenience

A 10‑centimeter metal rod, seemingly nothing more than a tiny stirring rod, is crafted from a mysterious alloy that defies analysis.

3.1. Shapeshift (Useless Until Found): Can transform into any shape the user desperately needs, whether a lockpick, screwdriver, key, or even a simple pen. This Rod then hides from the user within the immediate surroundings, the floor, ceiling, pockets and folds in clothes. On people and on yourself. Upon finding the rod, it finally transform into the tool the user requires. If the search is abandoned or fails, the Rod will eventually reappear behind the user's ear once the need has passed, ensuring it is always, infuriatingly, too late to be useful.

3.2. Displacement (Daily Ritual of Rage): Regardless of the user's intentions, the Rod has its own sense of daily routine. Once every 24 hours, it teleports to a new location somewhere on the user's body or somewhere in his possessios. It may wedge itself into a shoe, cling to the waistband, rest behind an ear or even hide inside the inventory. This displacement occurs with perfect timing to maximize irritation, and no amount of preparation, tracking, or vigilance can prevent it.

3.3. Unhelpful Resonance: The Rod possesses a curious sensitivity to objects that resemble what it will eventually shapeshift into. When near such an object, it begins to vibrate softly, giving the illusion that it is providing helpful guidance. In reality, the vibrations are entirely unhelpful, serving only to distract, cause accidental drops, or roll off surfaces at the worst possible moments. Every hint of usefulness is undermined by the Rod's precise determination to frustrate its owner.

3.4. Aura of Discord: The Rod's influence extends beyond mere mechanics, affecting the social environment within a five-meter radius. Friends, coworkers, or strangers nearby are subtly nudged toward misinterpretation, mild arguments, or petty complaints. Shared tasks, meals, and casual interactions are derailed by small misunderstandings, misplaced objects, or exaggerated annoyance. The effect is almost imperceptible, yet constant, turning even mundane interactions into sources of tension, confusion, and minor conflict. In this way, the Rod not only inconveniences its user but actively spreads irritation and discord wherever it travels.

[System Hopes the user utilizes the equipment well.]

So, yeah. Those were the random Items I got. And that rod was immediately doing it's job. You see, I can't see right now. Because as I was about to rub my eyes, that piece of shit appears on my hand, stabbing me in the eye. I tried to put it back into the inventory, as it was to precious to throw away and maybe to dangerous, too. But that thing just teleported out of it, shrunk down to a match sticks size and attached itself to the top of my ear right between the ear and the head. The ball was nice though. As long as I wasn't throwing it at people with the intend to do harm, it was just a Tennisball sized bouncing ball.

The gun and dagger were a bit worrying. Not because they'd go and injure someone on their own, but because they had incredible problematic possibilities. Both, sounding as awesome as they were, enticed me to use them. At least I would eventually be able to use the orb to grow my Throw-Skill but both the dagger and the gun seemed entirely unfit for use right now.
