At S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters, Nick Fury received an alarm from Isolated Island Prison and couldn't help but curse, "What's wrong now?"
If Isolated Island Prison didn't have Magneto, this matter would be easy to resolve; they could just launch missiles and sink Isolated Island Prison. The problem is, Magneto is there, which means neither missiles nor nuclear bombs would work.
While Nick Fury was pondering countermeasures, Pierce called him. He said with exhaustion, "Fury, you absolutely cannot let anyone from Isolated Island Prison escape. Otherwise, this time even I won't be able to protect you."
"I know. I'll stop them."
Nick Fury nodded with a grim expression. Then, he called Coulson and ordered, "Take the Avengers and Dr. Reed to Isolated Island Prison. You must not let Magneto and the others successfully escape."
"Yes, Director Fury, I'll gather everyone immediately."
Coulson immediately agreed and began to gather the Avengers and Dr. Reed's trio.
After giving instructions to Coulson, Nick Fury called Professor Charles, hoping he would help. However, to his surprise, Professor Charles did not immediately agree but remained silent for a moment.
Nick Fury's heart skipped a beat, and he asked, "Professor, is there a problem?"
Professor Charles asked, "Director Fury, do you know about the Mutant Cure Project?"
Nick Fury instantly understood where the problem lay. He cursed inwardly, "What are those government people doing? How could such a confidential matter be leaked?"
"Professor, I do know about this matter, but S.H.I.E.L.D. is not leading it. I am merely informed."
Nick Fury continued, "Furthermore, the government isn't trying to exterminate Mutant. They just want a weapon to contend with Mutant. They will only use the cure on Mutant criminals."
Professor Charles asked, "Director Fury, if you were a Mutant, would you allow such a cure to exist?"
Nick Fury fell silent. After a moment, he said, "Professor, let's deal with Magneto and his group first. Afterwards, I will help you apply to the President to suspend the cure project."
Professor Charles said, "I hope Worthington Labs can hand Leech over to us. He's just a child and shouldn't be in a lab."
"How much of a waste are those guys that even the lab's name was leaked?"
Nick Fury cursed under his breath. He said, "Professor, I will do my best to help you resolve this matter, on the condition that we stop Magneto's escape. Otherwise, anything I say will be useless."
"This time, I will help, but next time, it may not be the case."
Professor Charles said. Nick Fury put down his phone, his expression a bit grave—Professor Charles's meaning was clear: if he couldn't resolve this matter afterward, the X-Men would cease cooperation with S.H.I.E.L.D.
At Mutant Academy, Wolverine grumbled, "Professor, you're too soft. You should force them to hand Leech over to us, or we could directly attack Worthington Labs and snatch that kid back."
"Logan, for once, I agree with you."
Cyclops said. Wolverine rolled his eyes, not bothering to pay attention to that guy.
The Professor shook his head and said, "Being too forceful is not good. We must always give humans a chance."
"The problem is, humans may not give us a chance."
Beast Hank said, "The cure must never appear. Given humanity's animosity towards Mutant, the government is very likely to force all Mutant to revert to ordinary people."
"Let's deal with Erik and his group before discussing anything else. We cannot let them cause trouble again."
Professor Charles sighed and controlled his wheelchair to the room where the Cerebro was located.
Soon, Professor Charles put on the Cerebro, but to his surprise, there was only one consciousness in Isolated Island Prison, a collective consciousness made up of thousands of people.
"Mental link? It can connect so many people?"
Professor Charles reluctantly took off the Cerebro. With so many people's consciousnesses linked together, even he couldn't precisely control a specific person, unless he was face to face with that person.
While Cerebro amplified Professor Charles's brainwaves, it greatly reduced his control.
Then, Professor Charles informed Nick Fury of the situation and also said, "I will lead the X-Men to Isolated Island Prison to stop Magneto's escape."
"Thank you for your trouble."
Nick Fury was somewhat disappointed. At that moment, Hill entered with a tablet and said urgently, "Magneto isn't planning to escape; he's preparing to lead the prisoners to attack New York. These are the satellite images."
"Attack New York? Magneto, what do you intend to do?"
Nick Fury was greatly alarmed. He glanced at the satellite image and quickly called Coulson, saying, "Change of plans. Set up defenses in the Brooklyn dock area. Magneto is preparing to attack New York."
"Attack New York?"
Coulson was also startled. He hurriedly said, "I'll have the Agents and Superheroes prepare and wait for Magneto and his group in the dock area."
Nick Fury ordered, "No matter what, they must be stopped at the docks. They cannot be allowed to enter the city."
"Understood."
Coulson nodded. He ran a hand through his sparse hair, looking melancholic. No wonder Garrett was so happy when he returned; New York is truly terrible.
Let's rewind time a bit to Isolated Island Prison.
Magneto entered the room with Scanner. He looked at Mystique, who was torturing Garrett, and said, "Just kill him. There's no need to waste time on him."
Mystique said hatefully, "He reminds me of those years I was tortured by Trask Industries."
"Humans, all of them should die."
Magneto raised his hand, and a steel device flew out of Garrett's abdomen. Garrett screamed, reaching out and crying in terror, "No, give it back to me."
Garrett had suffered severe injuries to his abdomen in his early years. To survive, he joined HYDRA, who transformed him into a Death soldier, using a steel device to sustain his life.
Without this device, Garrett would die very quickly.
"You stay here and wait for Death, Garrett."
Mystique snorted coldly and left the room with Magneto. Magneto raised his hand, and the door slammed shut with a bang, leaving only Garrett's desperate screams in the room.
"That bad blood is finally out."
Mystique exhaled. She thought of something and said to Scanner, "Scanner, let's link everyone's consciousness together. Given Charles's personality, he will definitely help S.H.I.E.L.D. against us."
Scanner hesitated and said, "So many people, I might not be able to do it."
"I'll help you. Besides, someone will provide us with assistance."
Mystique transformed into Scanner's appearance and said with a smile. At the same time, Toad, Sabretooth, and the Life-Link Mutant walked over with a group of captives.
Then, Mystique and Scanner worked together to link the consciousnesses of everyone in the prison, forming a large collective consciousness. With it, even Charles would not be able to control them.
Magneto nodded in satisfaction. Before acting, he had already thought out all his plans. He was not an impulsive person.
Speaking of which, Magneto missed his helmet a bit. He wondered where S.H.I.E.L.D. had put it.
