The doorbell rang again. For the third time in five minutes. And honestly, at this point, I was convinced the universe was just… playing some sort of practical joke on me.
I wiped my hands on my apron and walked toward the foyer, muttering under my breath about how Mr Knight could at least warn me when visitors were going to pop up like mushrooms after rain.
But the moment I opened the door, all the tiny grumbles inside me froze.
Daniel stood there.
Tall, charming, annoyingly handsome Daniel — smiling like he had absolutely no idea he was currently walking straight into the lion's den. Or… the Mr Knight's den. Which was worse.
"Hey, Emma," Daniel greeted, warm and casual, like he was someone who didn't need to announce his arrival like normal humans.
"Daniel?" I blinked, completely confused. "What are you doing here?"
He lifted a small bag in his hand. "Dropping something off for Nick. And… I thought I'd say hi."
Perfect. Just perfect.
