I swear, this house had a personal vendetta against me.
Every time I thought I'd finally learned where everything was kept, some invisible force decided to move things five inches higher or hide them in places only someone six-foot-three could reach.
And maybe I would've blamed myself for being short… except no. This was definitely the house's fault. Or Mr Knight's, if I felt extra bold.
The morning was oddly quiet. Too quiet. Cora had gone with Josh to drop him off somewhere, Daniel had finally left after promising to visit again soon, and Mr Knight… Well, he'd shut himself in his office.
Which meant I had a whole hour of peace before he found something to be annoyed about again.
I was supposed to reorganise the top shelves in the storage cabinet near the kitchen. Easy enough — except apparently the person who placed everything up there had basketball player height and circus-level balance.
