Haley Slater was an emotional person, she would be the first to admit that.
When she had felt that her job as a CEO was not fulfilling enough for her, she had quit without a second thought.
When she had felt that there was no love between her and her ex, Prince Victor, she had also ended things.
When she felt something was off, she moved to address it immediately, or at least found a way to release her emotions on the matter. She was never one to leave things to build up, and normally that helped her.
But the situation with Deacon Roth was proving to be something completely different.
Said situation being that the two of them were married, he was her husband.
As it turned out, no amount of screaming or rolling around on the bed could change that, and it did absolutely nothing to make her feel a bit better about the whole thing. If anything the screaming made things worse.
Finally out of energy, Haley stared up at the ceiling, vaguely aware of Roth laying down next to her.
The screaming had not helped with her hangover at all.
In fact it had made her feel a bit lightheaded( adding to her hangover misery). To top it all off, she was still married to Deacon Roth.
The only way that things could be worse would have been if the two of them had actually consummated the marriage, and Haley had to worry about pregnancy too.
Just thinking about how much of a disaster that would have been, she felt a laugh building up in her throat and she did not bother to suppress it.
She laughed and laughed until she could not anymore, and when she finally got herself under control. Gasping for breath as she wiped tears from her eyes, she was greeted by the sight of Deacon Roth propped up on his elbow, staring at her in shock.
"And just what about the situation is funny Slater. You and I are married, our families will never forgive us for this. Have you any idea just how much trouble we are in,"
The smile slipping off her face, she looked over at him.
"I was just thinking about how awful it would have been if you and I had actually had sex and had to worry about a possible pregnancy as well,"
Roth's eyes went comically wide at that.
"Why would you even think such a thing Slater?! In fact why would you think it, and then feel the need to share it with me?"
He clutched his hair and pulled on it. Like the mere thought of a possible pregnancy was something that he wanted to pull out of his brain directly so that he never had such an idea in his head.
Again Haley could not help a snort of laughter.
Why was he freaking out?
She would have been the one who would have had to push out a baby that was half Roth.
It would have been a nightmare, her grandfather would have disowned her on the spot. In fact she was pretty certain that her grandfather would cut her off from the family due to their marriage.
Haley was the eldest, she was supposed to lead by example, but instead everything that she did now seemed to be a monumental mistake.
In her grandfather's eyes, Haley was certain that she was his biggest disappointment. She had gone from being a CEO to a photographer simply because she had not felt fulfilled in her previous post.
Plus she had ended a relationship with a man that her grandfather had greatly approved of.
Now here she was, married to Deacon Roth of all people.
Her grandfather might have allowed her to keep being part of the family after quitting her job and leaving prince Victor.
But for this there would just be no forgiveness for her, the old man would be too ashamed to even call her his granddaughter.
Tears welled up in Haley's eyes, making them sting.
She tried to hold them back, but she found that she could not. The next thing she knew, she was no longer laughing, but was sobbing. Her entire frame shaking as she let the tears fall, she became aware of a flurry of movement from next to her, then she felt a hand settle on her shoulder.
"Slater hey, Slater stop that right now. What are you doing?"
Roth sounded genuinely panicked. No doubt he was unused to people bursting into tears without his acerbic tongue being involved, and he was even more unfamiliar with the sight of a crying Haley Slater.
She had never shown such emotion in front of him before, but in that moment Haley could not help it.
Even so, she still had a bit of pride left, so even though it took monumental effort. She did her best to get her crying under control, wiping at her tears.
As she struggled around, hiccupping sobs, she glared at him.
"How can I not cry Roth? This is a disaster, you and I are married. How are we going to fix this?"
"Our families are going to disown us, and my grandfather will forever look at me as though I am the disappointment of the family,... which he already does. But this time I am disappointed in myself as well,"
She narrowed her eyes at him, and she thought that she almost saw his face soften before his cool mask was back in place.
"It is not so bad, Slater actually I think I might have a plan to get us out of this,"
That instantly had Haley's attention. His previous plan of taking the whole thing as a joke had fallen apart, the moment that she had found their marriage certificate. But even so, she was curious to know what it was that Roth had thought of this time. Could it possibly help them get out of the sticky situation that they had unwittingly landed themselves in?
