Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: Konohagakure Comes as the Enemy

"Konohagakure's actions are quite fast; it has only been a few days, and they have already sent scouts over."

Uchiha Yasuo finished today's treatment, grinning as he leaped down from the tall tower and headed over in the direction Pain had pointed out.

As for killing Konohagakure shinobi and such things, Uchiha Yasuo liked it the most; this was a game he never tired of playing.

The rain in the sky was still pattering down without stopping, and the people on the street were all wearing straw raincoats and bamboo hats, their faces hidden in the shadows of the hats as they mingled among the pedestrians, indeed very hard to discover.

But unfortunately, when the Land of Rain caught spies, they simply did not rely on eyes at all!

Under the "Rain Tiger at Will Technique", no one could infiltrate in.

Uchiha Yasuo swaggered straight toward the target; it was a man dressed in the guise of a merchant, who had entered the village together with a caravan, but the chakra aura on his body completely gave him away.

Uchiha Yasuo came to the front of the caravan, pointed with one hand, and shouted loudly: "Hey, you, yeah, I'm talking about you."

"You've been found out, come with me for a trip!"

That spy's pupils suddenly shrank; he was still stubbornly resisting in a corner, forcing a dry smile as he reached out and handed over a bag of money, smiling apologetically as he said: "We just entered the village and haven't even opened for business yet, wait until we come back later…"

"No need to wait!" Uchiha Yasuo directly cut him off, waved his hand, and said, "You are a Konohagakure shinobi; do you think I can't see that?"

"If you know what's good for you, then quickly surrender obediently, otherwise I don't mind killing you on the spot and taking your head to hand in as my report."

When that shinobi identity was exposed on the spot, his expression instantly changed; with a wave of his hand, several pellets smashed onto the ground, and with a "bang", they sprayed out large amounts of thick smoke.

But before he could take the opportunity to escape, a gust of force swept in, and a heavy kick smashed into his right knee.

With a "crack", his right leg broke. The broken tibia pierced through the skin, glinting with a ghastly pale sheen.

That shinobi fell forward involuntarily like a felled cedar tree.

"Ah…" He had only just let out half a miserable scream when a hand reached over, pinched his jaw, and dislocated his jaw joint.

With a flick of Yasuo's fingertip, a poison sac the size of a fingernail flew out together with his molar.

Yasuo conveniently also pulled out the venomous tooth in his mouth.

He was still stubbornly resisting in a corner, both hands quickly reaching into the pouch, but before he could pull out the shuriken and short sword, a pair of big hands pressed down on his shoulder joints; with a light shake, his arms were also dislocated.

This whole set of movements was smooth and fluid, as if he were dismantling a delicate puppet toy.

Uchiha Yasuo understood his way of fighting even better than he did; everything was as if it had been drilled many times, the coordination wonderfully precise to the tiniest detail.

After easily taking down this spy, Uchiha Yasuo grabbed the back of the man's collar with one hand and casually tossed him to a Rain shinobi at the roadside.

"Hey, take him to the tall tower and hand him over to the people over there for interrogation. I still have to hurry to the next one."

"Oh, yes." That Rain shinobi hurriedly stood at attention and saluted, reaching out to take the spy.

"Hey, you had better pay attention and don't let this guy kill himself. Although you can also get information from a dead one, a living one is more valuable."

"I understand, please rest assured!"

After handing the man over, Uchiha Yasuo leaped up onto the roof, turning into an afterimage as he rushed off in another direction.

Unlike in the original plot, where Jiraiya took the risk alone, this time the number of people Konohagakure had sent over was not small, and they had all sneaked in through different routes.

After coming in, these people also each used their own methods.

Some slipped into other people's homes and replaced ordinary villagers; some directly transformed into shinobi of this village; some did not show themselves, and instead released some ninja beasts to run around everywhere; and there were even those who simply, openly, in the capacity of shinobi, escorted caravans into the village.

All those people in front had been easily subdued by Uchiha Yasuo and handed over to other shinobi to take back for interrogation; only the last shinobi who appeared openly together with the caravan was somewhat troublesome.

According to the current rules of the shinobi world, even if two countries were at war, they would not touch those shinobi who escorted caravans while carrying out missions.

After all, every country needed shinobi to carry out missions to earn reward money; if they all started killing each other recklessly, the economy would collapse.

The usual practice was that a caravan would hire shinobi of one country to go to the border, and then shinobi of another country would take over and walk the second half of the journey.

But this kind of practice was often limited only to the Five Great Nations; small countries like the Land of Rain were not considered within the scope of such handovers.

It was precisely because of this kind of unspoken rule that those shinobi who escorted caravans dared to swagger openly into the Land of Rain.

Often these people who appeared openly would be closely monitored all the way until they left the territory.

As for whether this person could obtain the information he wanted, that depended on who had the higher skill.

If he could deceive the ears and eyes of the Land of Rain shinobi monitoring outside, slip out quietly, and gather the information he wanted, then it counted as his win.

But if he slipped up and got caught, then he had to bear the corresponding consequences and be secretly dealt with.

However, this was only the usual situation; when encountering someone unreasonable like Uchiha Yasuo, then he was out of luck.

Uchiha Yasuo did not care at all about any unspoken rules, nor did he care whether the Land of Rain's economy collapsed or not.

Your Land of Rain's economy—what does that have to do with Uchiha Yasuo!

War was about to start soon; after the fighting was done, who could even say what the shinobi world would look like, so who cares about you!

"Hey, it's you, Konohagakure shinobi, come with me for a trip!"

Facing such blatant hostility from Uchiha Yasuo, that Konohagakure shinobi was clearly a little stunned.

"You—you doing this is against the rules."

"Rules?" Uchiha Yasuo let out a cold laugh. "From today onward, the rules of the shinobi world are decided by us!"

He did not bother wasting words with that shinobi; his figure flickered, arriving at the man's side, and he kicked out.

First cripple his ability to move; everything afterward would be simple.

But what surprised Uchiha Yasuo was that the shinobi suddenly leaped backward and actually dodged his attack.

"Hey, your skills aren't bad!" Uchiha Yasuo's eyes lit up, finally showing some interest. "Though I didn't use full strength, an ordinary shinobi couldn't dodge my attack."

"With this agility and speed, you are at least an elite jōnin."

"But this face is very unfamiliar… could you be one of Danzō's dogs?"

"Haha… no matter what background you have, since you've come, don't think about leaving!"

Uchiha Yasuo let out a hearty laugh, drew a short sword, and stepped forward to fight him hand-to-hand.

Although healing Nagato consumed quite a bit, he still had the ability to activate Susanoo; however, since this was within Amegakure, there were too many houses around, and he had to avoid causing trouble, so it was inconvenient to fight on a large scale.

Therefore, if he could solve the problem with taijutsu, he would try to avoid using ninjutsu.

For reasons unknown, the shinobi opposite him also did not use ninjutsu; instead, he turned and ran straight toward the outside of the village.

Luring him out?

This thought flashed in Uchiha Yasuo's mind for a moment and was immediately snuffed out.

It didn't matter!

Just right—since it was inconvenient to go big inside the village, making a huge scene outside suited him perfectly.

He immediately followed behind that shinobi, not in a hurry to catch up, just lazily trailing him.

The two left Amegakure one after the other and arrived at an open area. That shinobi finally stopped.

Uchiha Yasuo also stopped, landing not far in front of him. He looked around and sneered: "Hey, call out all your ambushers!"

"Let me see what kind of people have come!"

Sure enough, before his words finished, two figures flashed out from the forest at the side, and together with the previous shinobi, they formed a three-way pincer, surrounding Uchiha Yasuo in the middle.

Uchiha Yasuo looked left and right.

Oh ho, all familiar faces.
