Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Guiding Daigo, Reverse Gravity

Kawaki didn't know how Lairon and Skarmory's special training experience would transfer to Growlithe.

Would Growlithe gain experience levels out of thin air like in the games, or would it directly receive the effects of the training, making it stronger?

The answer to this question would only be revealed after Steven's special training concluded.

If it was the former, then if he found a place where Trainers gathered, such as a Gym or a competition venue, wouldn't Growlithe be able to reach level 100 and max out in just a few days?

If that were the case, this 'Exp. Share' obtained from Steven would truly be useful!

However, they couldn't just freeload off Steven's experience.

As a Pokémon player and enthusiast, though Kawaki wasn't proficient in battles, he still had some understanding of Pokémon battles.

After a brief thought, he stood to the side and spoke, "Have you ever tried Reverse Gravity, sir?"

Steven was slightly taken aback. "Reverse Gravity?"

Kawaki nodded, the image of Clefairies using Reverse Gravity to control airships surfacing in his mind. He said, "How about changing the direction of the force, attracting Pokémon upwards?"

Steven was very intelligent. As soon as Kawaki spoke, he immediately understood his meaning.

A gleam of light burst forth in Steven's eyes.

Reverse Gravity…

As everyone knows, Gravity has a significant effect on some Flying-type Pokémon and those with the Levitate ability, but that's all.

So what if they changed the direction of Gravity, attracting Pokémon upwards from the ground?

A scene instantly appeared in Steven's mind.

Ground-bound Pokémon would be pulled into the air by Gravity, and their usual jumps and runs would be greatly affected.

It would be like jumping on a planet with low Gravity, leaping dozens of meters with a single jump.

For those Pokémon that can't fly, it would probably be very unfamiliar, causing them to lose balance and disrupt their battle rhythm.

Good idea!

Steven immediately had Metang try to practice.

Kawaki stood to the side, watching this scene, thinking that Steven was truly worthy of his reputation, understanding with just a hint.

He glanced at the Shinny Metang, and the next second, Metang's complete data was displayed before Kawaki's eyes.

Description: Work hard to become stronger for my Trainer! —Metang.

"As expected of Steven's Metang… It hasn't even evolved into Metagross yet, but it has already mastered so many moves," Kawaki marveled inwardly.

And this Metang's future strength would surpass that of an ordinary Champion-level Pokémon, capable of exchanging a few blows with the God of the Land, Groudon, and the God of the Sea, Kyogre.

In Gravity training, Metang displayed its outstanding talent.

In a short while, it could precisely change the direction of Gravity, achieving Reverse Gravity.

Lairon and Skarmory were still within the range of the Gravity field's influence.

Steven looked at Lairon and said, "Lairon, jump."

Though Lairon looked puzzled, it obediently complied.

It took a light jump, but the next second, it was incredibly surprised to find that its ordinary jump had covered several times the previous distance, almost flying!

"It's true!"

Steven was quite excited. With this, he would be able to catch his opponents off guard in future battles!

However… what Steven couldn't quite understand was this.

Trainers generally don't easily impart their knowledge of move development and tactics to outsiders.

But this young man named Kawaki, upon seeing him special training, immediately offered his insights to him…

Steven called a halt to the special training, then turned to look at Kawaki.

The young man and Growlithe stood together on the grass. He stood with his arms crossed, his posture and expression, at first glance, not at all like a ten-year-old boy, but rather like a grown adult.

"Why do I have this thought?" Steven shook his head secretly, then said earnestly, "Thank you for your guidance, sir."

"You're welcome." Kawaki merely smiled. This could be considered mutually beneficial, right?

Steven developed a hint of interest in the person before him. He had never encountered such a person in all his travels.

Kawaki didn't stay in the backyard for too long. The Breeding House still needed to operate. He left Growlithe in the backyard, then returned to the Breeding House alone, sitting behind the counter, preparing to open for business.

Several Clefairy ran into the main hall to play. In the midst of their chasing and playing, they accidentally knocked over a vase, causing it to fall to the ground and shatter into pieces.

The Clefairy gathered around the vase, somewhat at a loss: "Clefairy…"

Bewear took a look, then found a broom and carefully cleaned up the shattered vase on the floor.

"Don't worry, Clefairy, it's just a vase, but you need to be more careful next time!" Kawaki comforted them.

"Clefairy!" The Clefairy nodded repeatedly, promising to be careful!

With Bewear there, Kawaki felt very at ease; it could handle most things in the Breeding House.

In a short while, Steven also returned to the main hall from the backyard.

He sat on the sofa in front of the counter and ordered a drink. When the Clefairy waitress brought the juice to the table, Steven casually spoke, "Kawaki, are you a Trainer?"

"A Trainer?" Kawaki smiled and shook his head. "No, I originally wanted to be a Trainer, but my parents passed away early, leaving only this Breeding House. To be honest, this Breeding House only recently resumed business. I didn't have any goals at first, I just wanted to earn some money to support myself and Bewear."

Steven was a smart man; he quickly understood the meaning behind these words.

Parents passing away early meant that Kawaki couldn't receive travel funds from his parents like other children.

He originally wanted to become a Trainer, but because he had no money, he could only re-operate this Breeding House…

Thinking of this, countless complex emotions surged within Steven's heart.

Sympathy, pity, heartache…

After all, he was still just a ten-year-old child at this point, far from as mature, calm, and steady as he was in the anime.

This made Steven unable to help but say, "If you want to become a Trainer, I can help you."

"Oh?" Kawaki was a bit surprised. "How can you help me?"

Could it be that Steven wanted to just give him money?

Steven's expression was serious: "I heard that President Stone of the Devon Corporation in Rustboro City sponsors children from impoverished families to become Trainers every year. If you agree, I can help you apply for a travel fund from the Devon Corporation."

This would include accommodation, Pokémon breeding expenses, and so on.
