"This is the manager's office. The principal said you'll be living here as the dorm head." Komine Sachi led Jhin to a room on the first floor that resembled a dorm matron's office. She opened the inner door, revealing a simple room inside, fully equipped with a refrigerator, a sink, an induction cooktop, a bed, and a desk.
"Each room is equipped with a bathroom, a toilet, and a kitchen." Komine Sachi explained, noticing Jhin's surprise.
No, no, no, what I'm actually more concerned about is why the kitchen space is placed so close to the bed. Is the range hood's performance that good?
In the end, Jhin didn't voice the question in his heart. The room was so clean it didn't look like it had been unoccupied for a long time, likely the result of Komine Sachi's occasional cleaning.
"You've kept the room very clean. That saves me the trouble of cleaning it again."
"Thank you for the compliment." Komine Sachi was like a real maid; in Jhin's eyes, there wasn't a single flaw in her tone or actions. "How should I address you?"
"I'd love for you to call me 'Master,' but that would be too abrupt. Just call me Jhin, and you don't need to use honorifics with me. I'll call you Sachi. Is that okay?"
"Understood." Being called by the intimate name "Sachi," Komine Sachi broke into a happy smile. "If you have any problems, you can come find me anytime."
After watching her leave, Jhin put away his luggage. As for luggage, there wasn't much—just some simple clothes, a sniper rifle, and a handgun. If it weren't for the condition that he had to complete at least one mission every six months, he probably wouldn't even carry these two firearms. After all, supernatural abilities were still too overpowered for this world.
Basically, Jhin just had to use the Star Deck, touch the mission target, and the person would kick the bucket from cardiac arrest under the influence of his electrical discharge ability. Unless it was a hostage rescue mission, firearms were generally unnecessary.
This method, which seemed incredibly strange to others, was one of the reasons he was known within Interpol as the "Devil's Child."
Although students normally had to apply to leave campus, Tachibana Chizuru obviously hadn't restricted Jhin in this regard. Knowing he sometimes needed to go out for missions, she had given him permission to enter and leave the school freely.
Taking advantage of this privilege, Jhin slipped out of the school to buy some snacks and ingredients. Although the dormitory had vending machines, they didn't sell cola—can you believe it?
Jhin, who couldn't accept a life without his happy water, only realized how remote this place was after leaving the school. He walked for a full half-hour before seeing a convenience store. He wondered if this convenience store specifically catered to the students of Mihama Academy, as it even sold groceries.
It was already seven or eight in the evening when Jhin returned to the student dorm, carrying large and small bags. He glanced at the entrance. Below the nameplates of the members, there were magnets with the word "Inside" on them. Jhin also flipped the magnet below his name from "Out" to "Inside." It seemed he wouldn't be meeting any of the other members today.
Jhin returned to his room and discovered he had forgotten the most important thing.
His room had no cookware at all!
Seeing the kitchen, Jhin had subconsciously assumed there would be utensils. It seemed he had miscalculated. Temporarily unable to cook, Jhin could only have some snacks before going for a bath.
Hanging the "Men's Side In Use" sign outside the public bath, Jhin sat blissfully in the huge pool, thoroughly enjoying his soak.
Over the past six years, Jhin had made many preparations based on his memories of the plot. It was just a shame that right after he transmigrated, he hadn't dealt with Heath Oslo, the biggest problem.
Six years had also caused Jhin to forget many of the plot details about this world. According to the system's prompt, this was the price he had to pay for the new identity the god had given him in this world.
In any case, he had already made all the preparations he could. Remembering the plot details or not was no big deal. After all, with his interference, many things had already changed from the original story. Blindly using the plot from his memory as a reference would only lead to a major loss.
Jhin looked through the bathroom glass at the wall not far away, where a camera was pointed right at him. Wanting to test it, he stood up directly facing the camera and stretched, then nonchalantly grabbed a bath towel and left the bathhouse.
A certain system hidden deep underground suddenly malfunctioned, sending the research institute's personnel into a frenzy. They couldn't figure out why the system, which had already been officially put into use, was acting up.
"Chizuru, why can the camera on the wall point at the bathhouse? Are you using the monitor to spy on me?" Jhin sent a text and quickly received a reply.
"Of course not! You're just a minor, what's there to see? But I remember that camera was set so it couldn't turn towards the bathhouse. I'll go check on it later."
Believe it or not, if we went out together, you'd be the one who looks more like a minor. Although Jhin wasn't particularly tall at the moment, around 175cm, he was still much taller than Tachibana Chizuru, who was only 157cm.
Speaking of which, when he had saved her back then, wasn't she about the same height?
Jhin felt it was best not to dwell on the issue of Tachibana Chizuru's growth. It wouldn't be good if he accidentally voiced his speculation and made her angry. After all, she was technically his principal; he should give her some face.
"Achoo!" The coffee in Tachibana Chizuru's hand spilled all over the desk because of the sneeze, soaking many freshly processed documents.
"Ahhhhh! My documents!" Her cry of anguish echoed from the principal's office.
After his bath, Jhin lay on his bed and quickly drifted off to sleep. In his dream, he returned to the time when he had just been adopted into the Kazami family.
...
"This is your home from now on." Kazami Kazuki pulled Jhin into the house with light, cheerful steps. Her parents were still handling the adoption paperwork and hadn't returned yet. Finally having a younger brother of her own, Kazami Kazuki clearly couldn't contain her excitement and had ditched them to take Jhin home first.
"Hmm... I need to pick a name for you. What should it be?" Even a genius like Kazami Kazuki found herself stumped by the important task of naming. She wanted to give her brother a nice name, but she also wanted it to sound good with her own.
"Jhin. That's my name."
"Huh? That's your old name, right?"
"Jhin is fine, Sis."
"Mmm~" Being called "Sis," Kazami Kazuki's face filled with enjoyment. She felt that letting her little brother keep his old name wasn't a bad idea. Just hearing those two words, "Sis," why was it so delightful?
"Good little brother, come on. I'll take you to the room. You're going to live with me, okay?"
"Okay, Sis." The seven-year-old Jhin was exceptionally obedient, which made Kazami Kazuki even more pleased with her new brother.
Kazami Kazuki led Jhin into the room, only to realize that the bunk bed she had bought hadn't been delivered yet. She scratched her head awkwardly and decided it was better to take her brother for a bath and have him change into the new clothes she'd bought.
After Jhin finished his bath and changed into the light blue pajamas Kazami Kazuki had prepared, the Kazami couple happened to return home. Kazami Kazuki, acting more like the head of the household than her father, officially announced his name, much to her father's somewhat resentful attitude.
In the time that followed, Jhin's silent yet exceptionally obedient demeanor further solidified Kazami Kazuki's determination to raise her brother into the person she wanted him to be. For this reason, she even declined to participate in many art exhibitions she was supposed to attend, and after entering middle school, she reduced the output of her artwork, firmly seizing the family's economic lifeline and right to speak, all for the sake of properly raising her little brother, Jhin.
Because of this, the Kazami father was not fond of his adopted son, Jhin, but he didn't dare pull any tricks. He had seen with his own eyes the extent to which his daughter doted on her brother, not to mention she was the family's source of income.
The peaceful daily life only lasted until the day Kazami Kazuki disappeared. Jhin came home from school as usual and waited in the room for Kazami Kazuki to return, only to hear the Kazami father's hysterical roars at a school teacher and the sound of the Kazami mother's sobs.
