Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: Clash with Myotismon

Tai got Agumon into the room under cover and headed to the living room. Yuko Kamiya was making dinner when a news bulletin cut in on TV—footage of Zudomon fighting MegaSeadramon on the bridge. "It certainly looks like two monsters are fighting. But are they really monsters, and how do they connect to the elephant and dinosaur seen in Highton View Terrace?"

"Big brother, they're Digimon like Agumon, right?" Kari asked.

Tai smiled. "Yeah. Oh—Kari, take this." He pulled out the Digivice and handed it to her, then hung the Crest around her neck.

Kari looked down at the device and Crest Tai had given her. "Big brother, these are mine?"

"Yep. Keep them safe."

"Mm."

"Dinner's ready, Kari, Tai."

"Coming!"

Outside the Kamiyas' place in Odaiba, DemiDevimon flitted through the night, a replica Crest of Light dangling from his foot. Suddenly the fake Crest glowed.

"Great—the eighth child is in Odaiba! I need to tell Lord Myotismon!"

"What did you say—the eighth child is in Odaiba?" Myotismon whirled and glared at him.

"Yes, Lord Myotismon. The Crest lit up in Odaiba," DemiDevimon said, eagerly angling for credit.

"In that case, there's no point staying here. Everyone—go to Odaiba and find the eighth child."

In the bay, a Raremon surfaced and capsized a boat, then started swimming toward shore—straight toward the Kamiyas' building.

At Izzy's place, he was exploring the new functions Gennai had added to his laptop.

He clicked an icon. A map of Tokyo Bay appeared with a blinking red dot. A little Gennai avatar popped up beside it and spoke: "This is bad. A Digimon has logged in at Shibaura and come ashore!"

"What?!"

Raremon hauled itself up onto the quay and began smashing things. Izzy hurried to the phone to call for backup.

Tai, in the middle of connecting to Datamon in the Digital World to ask about recent Steel Empire business, heard his mother call from outside.

"Tai, a call from Izzy."

"Okay." He shut the laptop, stepped out, and picked up the receiver.

"Tai, bad news—a Digimon has logged in at Shibaura and come ashore. Get over here!"

"I'm on my way." He hung up, hurried back into his room, and nudged Agumon.

"Wake up, Agumon."

"What's up, Tai?" Agumon rubbed his eyes, still groggy.

"What is it, big brother?" Kari, also roused, poked her head out from the top bunk.

"A Digimon's appeared at Shibaura. Agumon and I are going to help Izzy."

"I want to see a Digimon too. Can I come, big brother?"

Tai hesitated a moment. It'd be good for Kari to see a battle now, and besides—they were almost here. He tapped a few buttons on his Digi-Goggles; a signal flickered in the vicinity.

He slid the balcony door open. On the opposite rooftop, Gatomon and Wizardmon were watching this way. Tai waved, and Wizardmon carried Gatomon over to land on the balcony.

"Big brother, they are…?" Kari looked at them curiously.

"This is Gatomon and Wizardmon. Gatomon is your Digimon—you're the eighth DigiDestined."

"The eighth child?" Kari blinked, bewildered. Gatomon stared, stunned, but still didn't understand what this had to do with her. Wizardmon, however, was beginning to.

"Gatomon, come here." Tai drew her closer, set Kari's Digivice in Gatomon's hand, and placed Kari's hand over the device. The Digivice began to shine.

Kari and Gatomon stared, wide-eyed.

"I remember now… Kari, I've been waiting for you. I've been searching for you for so long," Gatomon said, leaping into Kari's arms and nuzzling her like a cat.

"Gatomon…" Kari hugged her, stroking the soft fur.

Kari's Crest glimmered, and the Digivice shone with it—the light growing brighter and brighter until it passed through the Crest and poured over Gatomon. Gatomon's body blazed.

"Gatomon digivolve to… Angewomon!"

A beautiful, female, archangel Digimon. Once classified as simply an Angel type, her exceptionally high capabilities have since been recognized as Archangel class. As a rule of thumb, Angel Digimon at the Champion stage bear six wings, while Ultimate-stage angels bear eight. Her temperament is gentle, but she does not tolerate injustice or evil; if her foe refuses to repent, she will not relent. Both her spirit and power make her a being honored as the goddess of the Digital World. Her special move is "Celestial Arrow," a holy lightning strike also called "Divine Retribution." She also unleashes "Heaven's Charm," a radiant beam of beauty and kindness, the effect of which intensifies the stronger the enemy's evil. A technique that releases light filled with beauty and grace; the more powerful the foe's darkness, the more potent the Heaven's violet glow becomes. She can also gather everyone's strength, synthesize a holy bow and arrow, and fire them together as a sacred finisher—"Holy Bubbles."

A moment ago, Kari had been hugging Gatomon; now Angewomon's body was far taller than Kari's, and Kari found herself clinging to Angewomon's thigh instead.

Kari gaped up at Angewomon, at a loss for words.

"Kari, Tai—what are you doing out on the balcony?" Yuko called, hearing the noise.

Panic erupted at once. Angewomon and Wizardmon shot up toward the roof, and Agumon dove for cover.

"What are you two doing?" Yuko stepped in, puzzled, looking between Kari and Tai.

"It's nothing. Oh—Izzy called. I'm taking Kari out for a bit. We'll be right back." Tai grabbed Kari's hand and hustled for the door.

Downstairs, he and Kari traded a look and let out a long breath. Barely pulled that off. Angewomon and Wizardmon descended with Agumon in tow.

"Alright, let's go find Izzy." Agumon digivolved into MetalGreymon, and Tai climbed onto his back. Angewomon scooped up Kari, Wizardmon following as they flew toward Shibaura.

By then, Izzy had already made it to Shibaura. Raremon was tearing the place up.

"So gross," Izzy and Tentomon said in unison.

"Enough talk—I'm going." Tentomon shrugged off his jacket.

"Tentomon digivolve to… Kabuterimon!"

Kabuterimon swooped over Raremon. "Mega Blaster!"

Raremon spewed a mass of sludge that collided with the blast, the two attacks erupting in a blinding flash.

"Look over there," Tai said, eyes on the distant light. "Let's move!"

Myotismon's envoy was rolling toward Odaiba.

"Lord Myotismon, Raremon is fighting a kid's partner," DemiDevimon reported, flapping alongside the carriage.

"Hmph." Myotismon brought the carriage to a halt and stepped down. "Let's pay them a visit." He took to the air with several Devidramon.

"Mega Blaster!" Kabuterimon circled, exploiting the gaps in Raremon's attacks to unleash blasts that finally struck home. Raremon wailed and dissolved into data.

Izzy and Kabuterimon had barely begun to celebrate when a blood-red whip cracked across Kabuterimon's carapace, swatting him from the sky.

"Myotismon…" Izzy gasped at the vampire lord hovering midair, with several Devidramon looming behind him.

"Kabuterimon digivolve to… MegaKabuterimon!"

MegaKabuterimon launched. "Horn Buster!" He hurtled straight for Myotismon—but Myotismon coolly thrust out both hands, and MegaKabuterimon was shoved aside, smashing into a building.

Myotismon sneered. "Crimson Lightning!" He snapped the blood-red whip toward MegaKabuterimon—

"Celestial Arrow!" A white arrow, brimming with holiness, lanced in and severed the whip.

All eyes turned toward the direction the arrow had come from. Angewomon and MetalGreymon touched down, and Kari and Tai dismounted from their partners.

Izzy's jaw fell as Kari slipped from Angewomon's arms. "K-Kari is the eighth child?!"

"Mm." Tai nodded, then fixed his gaze on Myotismon.

Myotismon looked from Angewomon to Kari, rattled. When his eyes slid to Tai, his pupils narrowed. "You."

Tai gave a small laugh. "Surprised to see me, Myotismon?"

Myotismon's gaze kept sliding between Kari and Tai.

He didn't move, but the kids' Digimon didn't hesitate.

MegaKabuterimon staggered upright and fired again. "Horn Buster!" MetalGreymon followed with "Giga Blaster!" and Angewomon loosed another "Celestial Arrow!"

Myotismon scrambled to evade, but his Devidramon weren't so nimble; the volley erased them in a single wave.

Now surrounded by three Digimon, Myotismon held his guard, eyes tracking their every twitch—but most of his attention fixed on Tai. One move from Tai, and Myotismon would bolt. The danger he sensed from Tai eclipsed even Angewomon's—tension snapped taut, the instant before the clash.
