Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Return to the Digital World (EC)

Born from the fusion of two Mega Digimon—WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, both Virus Busters—by the fervent will for peace, this Holy Knight is one of the Royal Knights. A dual-type warrior who simultaneously carries both their attributes, it can bring its power to bear in any situation. Its WarGreymon-shaped left arm bears a shield and a sword; its MetalGarurumon-shaped right arm mounts a cannon and missiles. When evading attacks or taking flight, the cloak at its back deploys automatically. Its finisher from the MetalGarurumon arm, "Garuru Cannon," unleashes absolute-zero shells that freeze foes solid; its left hand wields the invincible blade, "Grey Sword."

VenomMyotismon shredded the last of the hovering laser turrets, then turned—as if sensing a mortal threat—toward Omnimon. Twin lances of Venom Infusion erupted from his eyes. Omnimon merely raised the Garuru Cannon and exhaled absolute zero; the shot smashed apart the beams and, without losing momentum, slammed into VenomMyotismon's body. A gaping hole blew open in his abdomen.

From that rupture, the true core of VenomMyotismon poked out, screeching, spewing black venom toward the ground.

"Omnimon—hit that exposed core!" Tai called.

Omnimon surged forward, his cloak billowing though there was no wind. VenomMyotismon kept vomiting out Venom Infusion. Omnimon leveled the Grey Sword; every venomous beam that struck the blade winked out. Panic crept into VenomMyotismon's movements, his shots turning frantic—only to be extinguished, one after another, against the Grey Sword.

With a crisp thrust, the Grey Sword pierced the core in VenomMyotismon's abdomen. His flailing arms froze—time itself seemed to hold its breath.

Cracks spidered from the wound, and VenomMyotismon's body began to crumble. He howled in despair, but his dissolution could not be stopped.

Just before the last of his head disintegrated, a black claw snatched the mask from his face—then vanished with it.

VenomMyotismon dissolved into data. Bathed in gold, Omnimon split into two streams of light that fell to the children's feet—becoming Agumon and Gabumon.

In a palace in the Digital World—

Piedmon faced a whirl of blackness. "VenomMyotismon's been destroyed by those kids. They'll be back soon. Do I stick to the original plan?"

"No. Wipe them out. Take back control of Dark Tornado Mountain."

"What about the BraveBeasts? We had an agreement. If they step in, I can't stop them. And what about Omnimon? I can't beat that."

"Hahaha—don't worry. The BraveBeasts won't be able to join. As for Omnimon, I'll handle it. Your job is to seize Dark Tornado Mountain. Understood?"

"I'll do it."

Silence returned to the hall. Alone, Piedmon sat with a crooked smile. "I won't wait quietly for the end… Millenniummon."

With VenomMyotismon gone, the kids finally exhaled.

"I'm exhausted. I never want to see him again," Mimi groaned, plopping to the ground with zero decorum.

"Look—the fog is clearing," T.K. said, pointing up.

Everyone tilted their heads. The fog thinned—and behind it wasn't blue sky, but a fractured, drifting world.

"What is that?" Izzy breathed.

No one had an answer.

Only Tai gave a wry smile. Even taking VenomMyotismon down early couldn't avert this scene.

The strange continent floating overhead sent every nation scrambling to investigate, but neither satellite nor radar could identify it.

"That continent is the Digital World," Tai said, pointing up. "Look at that mountain—ring any bells? If I'm right, that's Infinity Mountain."

"But why is the Digital World showing up in the human world?" Sora asked.

"We came straight here without correcting the distortions there," Izzy analyzed. "So the interference is manifesting in our world, too."

"Looks like we need to go back," Matt said.

"But how?" Mimi worried.

"Leave that to me. For now, go tell your families. Meet back here in two hours," Tai said.

Talk of family drew everyone quiet again. They drifted apart, heading for their homes.

Kari and Tai walked in silence. Hugging Gatomon, Kari finally asked, "Big brother… what do we tell Mom and Dad?"

Tai stopped, eyes on the Digital World in the sky. "I'll handle it."

"Mm."

When they opened the door, Yuko Kamiya rushed from the sofa and crushed them both in a hug. "Thank goodness—you're okay. That huge monster just now— I wanted to go find you, but I was scared you'd come home while I was away. You're safe—thank goodness!"

"Mom," Tai said, "we… probably have to go again."

"Go? Where?" Yuko blinked.

"To that continent. We have to—otherwise our world will get dragged in."

"What are you talking about, Tai?"

"Agumon, come here."

"What is it, Tai?" Agumon trotted over, puzzled.

Yuko pointed, speechless. "Wasn't that a doll? How is it talking?!"

"Agumon came from that continent. We need to save it."

"But you're just children," Yuko said, torn.

Tai's Digi-Goggles chimed.

He opened the incoming from Datamon: "Lord Tai, the transfer channel is ready. You can open it at any time."

"Got it." Tai looked at his mother. "We're going. But we'll be back soon. Dad, Mom—see you."

"But—" Yuko began, and Mr. Kamiya gently took her hand. "They've grown up. Trust them."

"But…"

"Thank you, Dad," Tai said, deeply grateful.

"Make sure you come back," Mr. Kamiya said solemnly. "You're the big brother—take good care of Kari. Understood?"

"I will. Let's go, Kari."

"Bye, Mom, Dad," Kari said, eyes wet.

"Gatomon digivolve to… Angewomon!"

"Agumon mega digivolve to… WarGreymon!"

"Goodbye—we'll be back soon!" Cradled by their partners, Kari and Tai lifted off for the rendezvous.

Yuko wept into her husband's chest as their children disappeared into the sky.

Angewomon and WarGreymon landed and reverted in light. Kari and Tai said nothing. One after another, the others arrived—every face marked with the ache of parting. T.K. wiped at quiet tears. Mimi sniffled into Sora's arms.

"Alright—we move," Tai said, setting the sorrow aside. There was too much left to do in the Digital World.

He drew a device from his pack and laid out an octagon on the ground, then pressed its activation switch. Lights kindled at the eight vertices, joined into a ring. A beam speared down from the Digital World and struck the gate. Eight-colored radiance flashed—stabilizing into a solid corridor.

"Okay—step through, and we'll be in the Digital World," Tai told them.

"Matt! T.K.!" a voice called from far off.

"Mom—Dad!" Their parents were running up—and behind them, the other children's parents, too.

"Let's go," Tai said, jumping in. The others followed.

"We'll be back—we promise!" The eight pillars of light drew tight and streaked toward the Digital World. A new adventure unfolded once more.
