"Come on, T.K.—let Patamon evolve," Matt said, drawing a steadying breath.
"But Matt, it's dangerous," T.K. warned, anxious.
"It'll be fine. We can't let WarGreymon fight alone. We're partners—we fight together. I'm not going to just stand here and watch WarGreymon battle by himself. T.K., trust me."
"Izzy, are we sure about this?" Matt asked, worry creasing his brow.
Tai didn't have a solid answer. This wasn't in the original story, and he wasn't at all sure the Arrow of Hope would still work the same way. Fine—use this instead.
"Matt, cool your head. It's not the last resort yet. Use this." Tai took out a small sphere of golden light. Looking at it, his chest tightened with complex feelings—the gift the black-robed man had left him. With it, he might push Gabumon and Patamon one step further.
"What… is that?" Matt asked the question on everyone's mind. A ball of light sitting in someone's palm was hard to rationalize.
Tai didn't answer. He split the light into two uneven parts and pressed the larger one into Gabumon's body.
"So hot… I can feel power surging," Gabumon said as gold wrapped around him.
"This… is the power of Miracles," Tai couldn't help thinking.
"Gabumon mega digivolve to… MetalGarurumon!"
The fully mechanized final form of Garurumon. With his body almost entirely cyberized, his power spikes but his agility remains intact; countless concealed weapons across his frame shred enemies with surgical precision. The four laser sights at his snout fix invisible beams on targets, coordinating volleys from every built-in system. With infrared and X-ray sensors, nothing escapes MetalGarurumon—even in pitch blackness. Arms on his back project laser wings, letting him cut the air at extreme speed. His signature attacks include "Absolute Zero," a breath that freezes matter to the core in an instant, "Freeze Bombs" launched from a belly bay, and the wide-area finishing technique "Grace Cross Freezer."
Gleaming metal from head to tail, MetalGarurumon streaked toward VenomMyotismon.
"Freeze Bombs!" He fired the instant VenomMyotismon tangled with WarGreymon.
The bombs exploded across VenomMyotismon's hide. Ice raced over the giant's body, halting his relentless pursuit in a single snap-freeze.
"Yes!" The kids cheered, but Tai alone knew this wouldn't end so easily.
Sure enough, a surge of black power pulsed through VenomMyotismon. The ice shattered off him like glass. With a roar, twin beams of black light blasted from his eyes. WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon split wide; the beams struck a high-rise. The building disintegrated on impact—gone without a trace. "Venom Infusion."
Watching the clash from afar, Tai's jaw tightened. WarGreymon had been a Mega for a while now and fought in plenty of battles—but VenomMyotismon was brimming with stolen energy, and his colossal size made every swing devastating.
Tai pressed the smaller light into Patamon. He wasn't ignoring Kari; Gatomon was a holy type and would need far more power—this remnant wouldn't be enough for her, especially right after reaching Ultimate. For her, forcing another evolution now would do more harm than good.
What remained was enough to push Patamon to Ultimate. Patamon had been at Champion for a long time, and MagnaAngemon's power would count—holy types hit dark foes hard. Worth it.
As the light fully merged with Patamon, T.K.'s Digivice lit up. The glow passed through the Crest of Hope and poured over Patamon's gold-washed body.
"Patamon digivolve to… MagnaAngemon!"
An archangel with eight radiant wings. Tasked as the law's magistrate in the Digital World, he supervises and watches over angel Digimon, and acts as the proxy of the "Light" that maintains the world's order. He appears in a priestly form, but when darkness blankets the Digital World he assumes a battle form—beam shield on the left, the holy sword on the right—to smite evil. In priestly guise he is gentle and full of compassion; in battle he becomes stern, unyielding. His special move is "Gate of Destiny," opening a dimensional rift that draws the enemy into a place from which there is no return.
MagnaAngemon beat his eight pairs of wings and arrowed toward VenomMyotismon.
"Looks like I'm going too," Gatomon said—and evolved into Angewomon, soaring after him.
"Good—everyone, together!"
"Terra Force!" "Absolute Zero!" "Celestial Arrow!" "Heaven's Charm!"
The partners' attacks hammered VenomMyotismon, wringing roars from the monster—but the actual damage was limited. That armor was monstrously tough.
The kids watched, hearts in their throats.
"I can't stand it—I'm going in!" Tentomon evolved to MegaKabuterimon and dove into the fray. One after another, the rest joined too, launching everything they had.
Even with reinforcements, the effect was mostly to divide VenomMyotismon's attention. Without holy attribute advantage, Ultimates barely scratched him—aside from MagnaAngemon and Angewomon, whose sanctified power bit deep into darkness.
VenomMyotismon raged, firing "Venom Infusion" in salvos. The Digimon dodged, but the city paid the price—whole blocks vanished into smoking flats. In moments, a bustling avenue became a wasteland.
Tai frowned at the distant melee. With full reserves, VenomMyotismon was a terror—especially that venom beam. Touching it was death.
"WarGreymon, use Brave Tornado—aim for his abdomen!" Tai sent through his Digi-Goggles.
"Brave Tornado!" WarGreymon clasped his claws and spun into a living drill, driving at VenomMyotismon's gut. To Tai's shock, the blow didn't pierce—VenomMyotismon only staggered back a few steps and braced.
"How?" That was supposed to be the weak point. But fueled to bursting, even his "weak spot" had hardened beyond belief.
VenomMyotismon kept lashing out with "Venom Infusion." The Digimon kept slipping the shots, but fatigue set in. Dodges got sloppy. WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon bore the brunt—drawing his fire over and over. WarGreymon held steady—he knew the feel of a Mega's power. But MetalGarurumon was brand-new to this tier and began to flag.
With a bellow, VenomMyotismon hurled a gale of black wind that blasted every Digimon but WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon away. Even they barely held position—and then he swung, swatting both out of the air while they were braced against the wind.
He stomped forward to finish it, a titanic foot rising over the fallen Digimon—
"Full-Power Assault!" Tai barked.
A dozen hovering laser turrets—Steel Empire make—burst from cloud cover and raked VenomMyotismon with beams, swarming him like gnats. He took the bait, turning from the grounded Digimon to swat at the harriers.
"I've never liked betting on miracles," Tai muttered. "But now… we have to." While VenomMyotismon chased the drones, the kids recalled their partners to regroup.
Ringed by partners and friends, Tai took a breath. "It's clear as day—if this keeps up, we lose."
"But what can we do?" Izzy said, sounding hollow. Against that armor, he was out of answers.
"Remember the prophecy? Then we do it. The angels fire arrows of Hope and Light at the ones they love most. That's the only path left."
"But if something—"
"There is no if," Tai cut Sora off. "It will work."
Kari and T.K. traded looks with their brothers—then nodded. Angewomon and MagnaAngemon met each other's eyes and nodded as well.
Light rose from the Crests at Kari's and T.K.'s hearts, coalescing into shining arrows in Angewomon's and MagnaAngemon's hands.
"Miracle—" "—answer us!"
Two arrows flew—one into Matt, one into Tai.
Golden radiance erupted from the Digivices at Matt's and Tai's sides, twining into a single beam that shot through WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon. Their bodies dissolved into the light—becoming one with it.
Within the gold, a silhouette formed—on the left, WarGreymon's helm and the great blade gripped between draconic jaws, etched in sacred sigils; on the right, MetalGarurumon's head, bristling with cannons and missiles; and behind, a cobalt cloak billowing in the wind—the wings that would let Omnimon take flight.
