Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: My Uncle is the Mayor

Chapter 35: My Uncle is the Mayor

After experiencing the powerful effects of the Dragon Blood drink, Meg had no more doubts and drove straight to City Hall.

It was only when she got out of the car that Meg suddenly remembered something. She asked, puzzled, "The FDA isn't located at City Hall, is it? And commercial loans can't be processed here. What are we doing here?"

At this, Stewie also looked up, confused. He wasn't sure why Chris had asked them to come to City Hall.

Now that he thought about it, could it be that this guy thought American city halls could handle such business?

Stewie looked at Chris in surprise, praying he didn't actually think that, otherwise it would make him look like an idiot too.

Fortunately, Chris's purpose wasn't what Meg had mentioned; he had another reason for being there.

But it was also his first time realizing that American city halls couldn't handle commercial loans or production permits.

A feeling of bureaucratic inefficiency immediately arose in his heart, and he thought that once he became president, he would definitely streamline this cumbersome structure.

But those were future matters; right now, he still had to work hard to become president!

"Of course we're here to find connections. After all, it's easier to get things done when you know people in power! You should understand that, right?"

Chris, holding the remaining sample drinks, led Meg and Stewie toward City Hall.

Meg still asked, puzzled, "Do you have connections at City Hall? Who is it, some official you've met recently?"

Chris's gaze shifted, and in an instant, he locked onto his target, heading straight for the mayor's office.

He had barely taken two steps when a security guard blocked his path.

"Sorry, sir, you cannot see the mayor without an appointment!"

Looking at the stern-faced security guard, Chris didn't get angry with him. Instead, he said with a grin, "We are Mayor West's nephews. Please go in and tell him!"

Upon hearing Chris's statement, the security guard didn't react much, but Meg and Stewie were surprised. They exchanged glances, both seeing confusion in the other's eyes.

Did they have a mayor as a relative?

The security guard clearly saw the surprise in Meg's and Stewie's eyes, but also noticed Chris's completely unconcerned demeanor, which made him hesitate.

"Please wait, I'll go in and confirm."

"Go ahead!"

Seeing the security guard enter the mayor's office, Meg became nervous. "What are you talking about? How could we be related to the mayor? I never heard Mom mention it!"

Chris gestured with his hands, indicating that Meg didn't need to be so nervous. "Hehe, relax, Meg! Mayor West is indeed our uncle, because he married our only aunt, Carol."

To Chris's surprise, Meg was even more shocked. "We have an aunt!?" she exclaimed.

"Why have I never heard Mom mention it? I'm clearly the eldest daughter in the family!"

Looking at Meg's disappointed expression, Chris didn't know what to say. He couldn't just tell her outright that Lois and Peter didn't like her, could he?

That might make the girl break down!

Who knew what might crawl out of Meg's corpse then? Chris didn't want that to happen.

So Chris comforted her, "This issue is a bit complicated. You know, Grandpa doesn't like Peter, so Mom doesn't really keep in touch with her family. I only found out about this by accident."

While Chris was comforting Meg, the security guard was communicating with Mayor West.

In the spacious mayor's office, a handsome middle-aged man with silver-gray hair was driving a go-kart.

He saw the security guard enter but showed no change in expression, continuing to bump into the balloons in the arena.

The security guard wisely waited for the mayor to finish. After West popped the last balloon and stood up with a shout, he approached the mayor and whispered, "Mr. Mayor, there are three kids outside who say they are your nephews. Would you like to see them?"

The tall and upright West stretched his limbs, thinking about what activities he should do in the afternoon, but he mumbled, "My nephews? What do they look like?"

Hearing the question, the security guard quickly replied, "A tall, handsome young man, a disheveled girl (?), and a baby with a football-shaped head."

Listening to the security guard's description, West laughed heartily. "Oh, Annie, you must be mistaken. If that tall, handsome young man were replaced by a short, obese, awkward teenager, then I could be sure they were my nephews.

But from your description, they are clearly not. So, kick them out and remember to put up a sign saying they are imposters trying to deceive the great Mayor West."

"Uh!" The security guard listened to West's eccentric remarks, and with a blank expression, asked, "What if that teenager has been working out? You know, kids' height and body shape change very quickly!"

Considering the security guard's words, West lowered his head and pondered for a moment, then said expressionlessly, "Hmm… You make a good point. Let them in then!"

Upon hearing West's words, the security guard visibly relaxed.

Because if Chris and the others really were the mayor's nephews, then the security guard who turned them away would surely cause Chris and the others to have negative feelings.

If they were to go chat with the mayor's wife, he would lose this easy, relaxed, and high-paying job with great benefits.

And if they really weren't the mayor's nephews, he wouldn't lose anything, at most just get a scolding from this unpredictable mayor.

For their team of security guards, who were often scolded, this was nothing at all.

Seeing things develop in his favor, the security guard moved quickly, afraid West might change his mind.

When he opened the office door, he happened to hear Chris say, "Honestly, if it weren't for Mom's weird obsession with that fat slob Peter, the three of us would be a thousand times better off than we are now!"

"Sorry to keep you waiting. The mayor invites you in."

The security guard said, opening the office door, indicating that Chris and the others could enter.

"Oh, thank you!"

Chris, who had wanted to continue complaining about Peter, nodded his thanks to the security guard and led Meg and Stewie into the mayor's office.

After the few of them entered, the security guard did not rush to close the door.

No matter what, he was the mayor's personal security guard, so he definitely had to ensure the mayor's safety.

At this moment, West was already sitting at his desk, head down as if reviewing documents, looking like he was working tirelessly for the citizens.

However, Chris immediately saw that the guy was playing with a Rubik's Cube, not even glancing at the documents on the table.

In fact, through the go-kart in the office and the broken balloons, Chris immediately deduced the ridiculous things this guy had just been doing.

But these things had nothing to do with Chris. He was currently asking a favor from his convenient uncle, so he wouldn't say anything to displease him.

"Hi, Uncle West, we've come to see you!"

Chris naturally walked up to West and greeted him with a smile.

West, with a flick of his hand, covered the Rubik's Cube he had just solved with a document, then quickly stood up and responded:

"Oh, it really is you, Chris! You look so different now, I almost didn't recognize you.

And you, Meg. You... are still so spirited. I hear you're about to go to college. Do you need me to help write a letter of recommendation?"

As for Stewie, who was standing by Chris's leg, West only fully saw him when he walked to the desk. He laughed heartily, picked up Stewie, and said, "Haha, isn't this Stewie? Let me give you a hug!"

The security guard standing at the door saw West greeting Chris and the others warmly, and only then did he close the door and exit with relief.

After exchanging greetings, West invited them to sit on the sofa and asked with a smile, "How are Lois and Peter? Are they doing well? Did you come here just to visit me?"

"Or…?" West scanned Chris and the others, then fixed on the unknown liquid Chris was holding. "Is it related to this thing?"
