Eleanor nodded, glancing at the clock on the wall. "Good. It's already nine. You'd better get some rest, kids." She looked between them with a knowing smile. "I'm going to bed myself. Goodnight, and remember what we've talked about. I don't want any more misunderstandings between you two, but if there is an issue, you can always talk to me or to your father. Marriage is not easy, but if you do not communicate, it becomes harder. Do you hear me?"
"Yes, Grandma," William said quietly.
"Goodnight Grandma," Bri added politely.
Eleanor gave them one last satisfied nod before retreating down the hall, her soft slippers fading into silence.
William turned and gestured toward the stairs. "Come on. It's this way."
Bri followed him up to the second floor. The Whitmore estate was just as breathtaking as she remembered.
She had lived here once, briefly, three years ago after her grandmother died, but even now, it still managed to overwhelm her.
