Later, Elijah led her along a narrow path framed with hibiscus flowers and lush green leaves.
"Where are you taking me?" she asked.
"Somewhere no one else goes. I used to come here with my family when I was younger."
They stepped out to a small, hidden lagoon where the water was crystal clear and still, almost glowing beneath the sunlight.
Isabella gasped softly."It's beautiful…"
"So are you," Elijah said quietly beside her.
She looked up at him—really looked—and felt her heart flip, soft and confusing and thrilling all at once."You're doing this on purpose," she murmured.
"Doing what?"His smirk gave away everything.
"Making me fall for you."
The smile faded from his face—replaced by something gentler, deeper."Isabella… I'm not trying to manipulate you. I just… want to be honest with you. I like who I am when I'm with you."
She felt her chest tighten in the best way possible.
"I like who I'm becoming with you."
For a moment, they simply held each other's gaze, quiet understanding passing between them.
Then Isabella nudged him lightly."Come on. You promised exploration."
He snorted."Right, right. Mrs. Ashwell wants an adventure."
"Get used to the title," he teased."You married me."
"Best decision of my life."
