Chapter 3 - The Observer

Standing in that endless darkness, that light called attention like a small beacon of hope. When it finally reached me, I was able to discover its identity.

It was a being that, to me, looked like a giant, wrapped in long black robes, like a Grim Reaper. In one of his hands, he held a torch whose fire burned intensely, as if sending the darkness around it far away.

When he approached me, I thought that the God of Death had finally arrived to judge me. The being in black robes stretched out his pale hand toward me.

(So, the time has finally come...)

He picked me up as if I were nothing more than a small object and brought me close to his face. With the torchlight illuminating me, I was horrified to realize that I no longer had limbs or was even humanoid.

I was nothing more than a blue, flaming orb of pale light.

(How did I end up like this!?)

Panic dominated me, but I quickly regained my composure and reasoned about my situation.

(So, this is the form of my soul.)

I came to this conclusion, taking into account that I was already dead anyway.

"Yes, that's right, child, you got it."

Suddenly, I hear a strong and imposing voice.

(What? How?)

I was shocked and stunned by the entity's answer.

"Little one, you are correct. At this moment, child, you are in Limbo, where souls of uncertain and unclaimed destinies, like yours, wander toward oblivion."

(Wait, can you hear my thoughts?)

"Yes, I can," he replied in a gentle tone.

(What do you mean, souls of uncertain and unclaimed destinies?) I asked him in doubt.

"This place is the destination of souls who, in life, possessed no religious beliefs or faith. They arrive and wait until they are purified and completely washed with oblivion to be ready for reincarnation."

(So, I'm here because I had no religious belief in life? How ironic! I had to die to find out!)

"Yes, child, but don't be sad about it. Your destiny could be much worse."

(Well, I really don't doubt it.)

For some reason, I couldn't doubt the Ser's words in front of me. I felt as if he had no need to lie to me.

(And you? What are you, sir? Are you God?)

"Hohoho... no, child, I am not what you would call God. What I am is complicated to explain, but I would be classified as an Omniversal Entity."

"I am the one who observes all things. You may call me The Observer."

(So, what is the Observer-sama doing in a place like this?) I asked him.

"I am here for you, child," he replied.

(For me? Why?)

"Because, child, you possess a very special soul."

(My soul is special?)

"Yes, merely being conscious and not having fallen into oblivion is proof of that."

(If you are here for me, then what do you want from me?)

"I am here, child, to offer you a bargain," he said.

"Become my son."

(What?!)

"I said, become my son."

(But why?)

"I have already lived for millions of years and observed thousands of universes across all creation, and lately a strange desire has grown in my heart: the desire to give life to something."

"I am here, child, because you fit the requirement to be my son," he explained.

I was shocked and didn't know how to respond to that. I forced myself to calm down, and then I thought about what my choices were: stay in this place or become his son and be able to have a new life.

(You said you wish to give life to something? If I become your son, will I be able to live again?) I asked him, hopefully.

"Yes, child. If you agree to be my son, I will give you a second chance to live again."

(I accept!)

There was nothing to think about. It was what I desired most at that moment.

"Then, our bargain is sealed." When he said this, an enormous flash of golden light emerged and enveloped us in a flash.

"I declare: from this moment on, you shall be my son!" His voice sounded like the enormous roar of thunder.

I felt a strange and warm sensation overwhelm me, but even so, I forced myself to concentrate on my current situation.

(And now, what happened to me?)

"Now, child, I will send you off to reincarnation, but before that…" He let me go from his palm and searched for something in his robes, pulling an object from his chest pocket.

"As a father, I have an obligation to give my son the conditions for survival, right?" he said.

He tossed a small golden compass toward me. It looked like a pocket watch that might fit in the palm of a hand.

"This compass is my treasure that I give to you. It is called the Golden Navigator. What it is capable of, you will have to discover on your own."

He said this while bringing the golden compass closer to me, and somehow, it was sucked inside me.

Frightened, I asked him.

(What was that?)

"It now belongs to you, and only to you. It will be inside your soul; to summon it, you will have to discover that on your own, hahaha…" he commented, letting out a little laugh at the end.

"My child, it is time."

(Wait, I still have questions!)

However, he raised his hand, and a golden glow enveloped me. I slowly began to drift off until my vision darkened and I fell asleep.

-The Observer's Point of View-

I used my power to envelop the child's soul in front of me. I didn't have much time; staying in this place is a difficult task even for me.

I felt a little guilty for not telling him the real reason for adopting him as my son: I needed a successor.

I used my powers to prepare him for reincarnation, but before that... I took out a small bottle containing my other gift for him.

Inside this bottle is the purified blood of an individual from another world. From a very distant world, the being to whom this blood belongs was of a race that called themselves Devas. This individual was once called the Sinful God. His name was Cain.

I removed the bottle cap and poured the blood over my child's soul, and I used my power to seal it within him, until, in the future, his body was ready to accept its power.

With the preparations complete, I immediately sent him to the Portal of Reincarnations.

"From now on, it will depend solely on him."
