Shota kept running until the roar of explosions and clashing puppets faded behind him.
The forest fire still crackled, but the main battlefield was far back now. Some of the trees still burned. Shota made sure to keep check of the distance between him and the main battlefield where the others fought.
He stopped on a small hill of cracked earth, turned, and waited.
Two Iwa shinobi burst from the smoke thirty meters away.
The jōnin, Goro, landed first. He was tall, scarred and had pouches filled with clay swinging at his belt.
The chūnin, Riku, dropped beside him, younger, eyes wide with kill-lust.
There was some surprise at seeing their target stop.
"Finally given up, boy?" Goro called, voice rough. "You've caused us a lot of trouble with that trick of yours. What should've been an easy fight turned into a mess. For that, you've got my respect. But you are the reason, Iwa lost so many shinobi and I had lost some of my comrades."
He drew a breath, "But today is the day you die. Your little ability ends with you."
While Goro said that, he did not believe that there was an ability that could stop him from using chakra but he believed in the intel that his commander gave him.
Shota didn't blink st their threats. He didn't speak anything. Inside, his mind was calm. He wasn't scared one bit. He wasn't the prey like the suna nin in front of him thought.
They were.
He had led them here.
Far from Sōshi. Far from Kurogiri. Far from any witness, Suna or Iwa. No one would know how he managed to kill both of them.
No one would see what he could really do.
Kurogiri thought Shota could only erase one person's chakra at a time. That's why he sent two people after him. A perfect idea about a counter to him in theory.
But Kurogiri was wrong. Everyone in Shota's line of sight lost their chakra. All at once. As long as they were in his line of sight and if he willed, it doesn't matter whether one person loses chara or ten.
And if he wanted to take advantage of such situations in future when people underestimate his ability, he needed to make sure that people don't know the full extent of Erasure.
He looked at the two Iwa shinobi. Shota got ready to kill these two.
He had never liked killing. Back on Earth, he was just a high school kid, video games, manga, late-night snacks. Now? This world was blood and war. But if you think about it, it wasn't that different from Earth.
'If I was a soldier back home,' he thought, 'I'd be ordered to take out enemy combatants. Terrorists without any mercy. I just lived a life of a civilian there. This is the same. Just with ninjas and jutsu.'
Not like he was scared of killing, he had participated in mission since he was seven and had killed a person on his second mission outside the village. He had been deployed for some special missions during the current great ninja war and had killed many shinobi Iwa and Konoha alike. He might be a ten year old kid but he was a hardened shinobi who did not shy away from getting his hands dirty.
Goro and the Iwa Chunin shared a nod.
Goro moved first.
He body-flickered— Or well, tried to.
He just ran, fast but at a normal speed, kunai raised.
Shota's eyes had flicked to him. Chakra erased.
The Iwa chunin reacted fast seeing that Shota was focusing on the jonin. He body-flickered closer since he had his chakra still working. He closed the gap, fist aimed at Shota's face.
But mid-air, his chakra was gone. He thought that Shota had changed focus on him and thus Jonin Goro would have access to chakra and would appear to kill the boy. He decided to keep him busy till then.
The chunin landed hard, no speed, no power and used just a regular punch.
Shota leaned left. He caught the chunin's wrist. He twisted it. The chunin stumbled past him, off-balance.
Goro was still running but at normal speed, no jutsu with no body flicker. Because he could not. He was twenty meters back and closing but slowly.
The Iwa chunin spun, panic flashing in his eyes.
'He switched targets! The jōnin will get his chakra back—'
He charged again, no jutsu, just taijutsu.
A kick to the ribs. A punch to the jaw.
Shota blocked both. Elbow. Knee. Palm strike.
Riku swung wild.
Shota ducked, stepped in, and drove a short punch into the gut. Riku gasped, doubled over.
It all happened within a second. He looked back. Goro was still running. Normal speed.
Riku's eyes went wide.
His last thought before death:
'He can erase… more than one… at a time?'
Shota's right hand glowed. A spinning blue orb formed in his hand.
"Rasengan," he whispered.
*WHUM!*
The orb slammed into the Iwa chunin's chest. The chunin's ribs caved in. His body folded like paper. He flew backward, hit the ground hard, and skidded ten meters. Dust and blood trailed behind him. He didn't get up.
Goro skidded to a stop, ten meters away.
His face was pale. His hands shook. He
still had no chakra.
He stared at the crater where Riku had landed. Then at Shota. Then at the Rasengan fading from his hand.
'Did the Suna brat just use the yellow flash's signature jutsu? And why did not Riku use chakra when the boy was focusing on me?'
Suddenly realisation dawned on him. 'He can erase chakra of more than one person at a time.'
Goro's training kicked in. He didn't freeze.
He reached into his pouch and 9ulled a smoke bomb. He slammed it into the ground.
*POOF!*
Thick gray smoke exploded upward.
It swallowed the hill as vision dropped to arm's length.
Goro vanished into the haze. Shota's eyes narrowed.
The smoke blocked sight and thus blocked his main ability.
